After all the chicks have hatched, the mother leads her children to the water for the first time. The way there is not safe. And even if the goal is finally reached after two hours, the danger is not over.

You didn't quite capture the meaning of the situation there. That black bird will kill and feed on a duckling if it gets a chance. The mama duck was stopping along the way to the pond to protect them and shoo the black bird away.

You have just earned yourself an A. Very good question. I grew up in the mountains of Jamaica. I would often observe mother hen walking her brood of chicks When suddenly, a mongoose attack. So, mother hen puffs up the feathers around her neck and deals with the mongoose viciously... feathers flying everywhere. When the dust clears, mother goes about the business of anxiously gathering the scattered chicks. Previously, there were twelve...Now there are eleven.......they all look alike. But mother hen doesn't seem satisfied. She keeps searching.....for hours. I am 66, and have always had that question in the back of my mind. How do they count?? Cluck, cluck, cluck.
