Duck Call Room

7 ай бұрын

Uncle Si and Big Dave, John-David’s dad, compare stories from their military experiences, which prompts Si to fondly relive his time at basic training. Big Dave reveals that he used to work with Willie and expected that he wouldn’t amount to much, though Big Dave is happy he was proven wrong! Nothing fires Martin and John-David up like talking about fried food and Big Dave holds the title of master fryer and outdoor cooking guru. The boys give advice to a fan who coincidentally asks for advice about running his own fishing and tackle shop.

Uncle Si has, no doubt, helped to save my Life! I served 12 years as a Combat Engineer in the Army, including 28 months of combat, in Iraq. I have unfortunately lost more friends to suicide, than I lost in combat. That fact combined with me just not fitting in, and I was ready to check out, myself. However, Si’s simplistic approach to life, along with his Faith in Christ Jesus, was enough to reach through and make All the Difference! I listened to him when I wouldn’t hear Anyone else. God Bless and Godspeed to my Brother In Arms and In Christ, Silas Robertson!!

Enjoy hearing Si telling about the good days. I remember the international trucks. Gears in the floor and you learned how to drive them at seven. The truck bed had to keep up with that auger on the combine slinging wheat or corn into the back of the truck you're driving. Don't let any wheat or corn hit the ground or you'd get a chewing out. The farmers soon realize it's gonna happen a few times with kids. I miss those days.

I was a method addict for 7 years I started at 15, yall talking about numbing the anger hit my heart. Since I stopped my rage mode kicks in constantly, plus I'm working through college on 3 hours of sleep many days. Anger and hate are probably top three struggles for me as a person tryna recover from what I've done to myself

It sounds like you are putting a lot on yourself right now, sleep is important not just for you physically but mentally as well. Is there something you can set down for now to give you more time to focus on you. There are many videos on KZbin to practice relaxation, deep breathing, meditation, yoga, deep pressure techniques all are very helpful in retraining your mind to stay calm. Remember anger is often a protective reaction rather than feeling the emotion the situation triggers. When you feel yourself start to anger, stop, take a deep breath and slowly release, focus on your breathing and walk through why the situation is triggering you, face those emotions, face the hurt, that is where you will find healing. Prayers of strength for you, you can do this!

Uncle Si, Fort Benning hadn’t changed much in regards to running everywhere when I went through Basic there in 2011, not very much of the so called walking done at Fort Benning’s school for boys. Thank you for Your Service Uncle Si, you and your fellow Vietnam Brothers didn’t get the gratitude you deserved, I have an Uncle who served in Vietnam and unfortunately he passed due to complications from Agent Orange. From this OEF veteran your service is greatly appreciated! Thank you all for what you do and I enjoy the podcast every week.

We hear about Big Dave, Burly, etc. When we see one of them is on the podcast, we get excited to get to know them. But Si monopolizes the conversation. I fast forward through the majority of these guest episodes because Si wont let them talk. I ADORE Si, but PLEEEEEZE have a conversation with him about this❤

No one has to hurt his feelings, just let him know that the followers WANT to hear what guests have to say. And to the person saying he was telling Big Dave stories, you are wrong…it was all SI stories! I finally just had to turn it off in the third segment when Uncle Si was still talking about himself.
