From what I understand Disney just doesn't want to do more involved shows like this because they're harder to market and build an audience for. Namely the ongoing storylines making it difficult to just run reruns forever without confusing audiences. The solution to this imo would be to adopt a seasonal anime model, but given how much more expensive western animation is that may not be feasible in Disney's eyes.

Also from what I understand, shows usually run for 3 seasons and then the audience grows out of it and toy sales heavily decline. From the perspective of the producers, that is. I actually preferred this version of DuckTales over the original. The characters in the original always felt too goody toe-shoes to me, much like every cartoon protagonist of the 80s. Here they're so full of character depth that even Donald's rage issues has an emotional core to it. I love how they gave the triplets distinct personalities, the developing story arcs between seasons, the Disney Afternoon cameos didn't offend me too much since I am here for the Ducks (that said, Keith David's cameo was so freak'n funny), Daisy and Donald's relationship was super cute, and Della Duck might be my favorite cartoon mom. Woman gets trapped on the moon with no hope of getting home and yet the thing keeping her alive is the idea of seeing her kids again. Seriously, that shit was golden! The only aspect I wasn't so fond of was Darkwing Duck. Granted I might be bias on that since Darkwing was my favorite show on the Afternoon, but to me it felt like they brought the original DW back just to turn him into a villain. You can't tell me that's not the original DW, he has the same oversized ego, the original (far better) suit, and is voiced by Jim Cummings. For the record, having Chris Diamantopoulos voice the new Drake Mallard doesn't help the case since he's the Chris Pratt of television. He keeps showing up in places I don't expect him to be. I'll admit that the origin for Negaduck is clever, but I always figured Negaduck's origin was akin to that of the Joker's; the fact that you really don't know where these great evils came from makes them all the scarier. After that plot twist I was hoping the show would turn things around with Gosayln, the true heart and soul of the original soul, only to have my heart crushed there as well. Instead of being Darkwing's adopted daughter, an aspect of the original that made it so heart-warming, here she's religated to yet another superhero sidekick. She goes from being the better version of Damian Wayne to a weaker version of Time Drake. Yaaay. All this felt like watching the T-Rex die in Jurassic Park 3. Sure, I love the Spinosaurus, but it wasn't worth killing off the original. If they really wanted to introduce a new DW, why not go the Batman Beyond route by having Jim Cummings's Drake Mallard mentor a new Darkwing? Better yet, have that new Darkwing be Gosalyn as Quiverwing Quack! Nothing can convince me that wouldn't have been awesome! Instead this show turned a hero into a villain, gave me a subpar substitute, and just made me wish they had stuck to Tad Stones's statement of how these two franchises were separate. That said, if they are making a new show, I sincerely hope they pull a Spider-Man: No Way Home and finally get me to care about the new version of this beloved hero. And give him a new costume, this one looks freak'n ugly! 8:02 It’s live action and is more connected to Roger Rabbit if the Disney Wiki is to be believed. 9:13 Hoo boy, I really hope that’s a dig at Disney cancelling good shows prematurely rather than Owl House’s overall quality.

So I read ALL of this, and I agree with most if not all of it. I agree that having him become Negaduck was a fun twist, but they also didn’t really do much with it. I enjoyed the new DarkWing because we got to see him starting out and trying to find his roots. Goslyn was fun and if we got more of the show then we could have seen Drake and her become close like a Father and Daughter. I enjoy the Batman Beyond idea you have. It would have worked super.

For the most part, this show did a great job juggling between multiple characters and references while still honoring the source material and standing as its own thing. Aside from Launchpad acting too dumb at times and Gyro being a bit too cynical, Scrooge and the gang were all entertaining and had solid development throughout the series. The main villains of each season also had a major impact in their respective motivations, actions, and effects on others, with Bradford probably being the most intriguing for his perspective on the world. Although, I still feel Donald should've done more in this show since he felt sidelined compared to the lead kids. They really could've delved more into his begrudging relationship with Scrooge throughout the first season by having him join more adventures and gradually understand his side of the story. Plus, outside of his initial argument with Mrs. Beakley in the third episode, he didn't interact that much with Launchpad, Webby, or several others that weren't Scrooge or the nephews, which could've made for more interesting dynamics and interactions. Yes he made more appearances here than in the original "Ducktales" show, but at least there he had the excuse of being a minor character. Here however, he's supposed to be a main one, so they seriously should've used Donald much more than they did. On the bright side, his interactions with Daisy were wonderful and I'd love to see that done more often in future Disney cartoons with them. That said, I'm still grateful for what "Ducktales 2017" offered us: an enjoyable series with creative new takes on beloved characters. The stuff with Darkwing Duck was one of my most favorite things here and not just because he's my favorite character/show from the Disney Afternoon. In fact, most if not all of the TDA references were a delight to watch, and making the Headless Man-Horse their version of Goliath from "Gargoyles" was the perfect cap off to that.

I think the real reason they ended this series (as they'll do with Amphibia and Owl House) was mainly because the guy behind Disney and its channels started to dislike Serialization in their shows and would rather stick to "Strictly Formula" or "Episodic" shows like with Phineas and Ferb or Ghost & Molly McGee. That's why we don't get Serialization unless it's in Disney Plus AND something like Star Wars' Mandalorian or Book of Boba Fett.

I love this show, my favorite character is flintheart glomgold by far, he is probably the most changed character from the original but I loved how he always had this annoying idiotic personality constantly trying to kill Scrooge, the only problem with this show (I have at least) is the ending of season 3, I felt like they should of added more episodes to the finalie to make it less rushed

Many of the characters in Ducktales have been huge in Norway for decades. My parents grew up reading comics with many of the villain gallery in particular starring centre stage. It was so funny to see the return of Magica de Spell (Magika av Tryll), Flintheart Glumgold (Gulbrand Gråstein) and the Phantom Blot (Spøkelsesklædden).
@MrKaiju-sr8wu2 жыл бұрын
the only thing I was kind of let down by in this series was how Phantom Blot was handled. Don't get me wrong, actually seeing him appear in a higher profile Disney property was great, and I thought his design and voice was excellent! I also understand why they had to reinvent him so heavily, since he was one of Mickeys archenemies in the comics, and was only occasionally an enemy of Donald and the rest of the duck family. I think the new backstory and motivation he was given was solid too, but here's my issue with him; He felt very underutilized. He had the potential to be one of the shows most threatening and interesting villains, but he didn't get to do enough to really leave as much of an impact as I'd hoped for. Heck, he gets defeated off-screen, and we don't find out what happened to him! I know he's an obscure character, but he was a BIG DEAL when he showed up in the old comics, way more competent and intimidating than the average villain. He was more of an evil mastermind that puppeteered events from behind the scenes, and messed with peoples heads in varius, dastardly ways. Again, I'm happy he got to appear at all, but I wish they had done more with him.

I’m really glad to see that other people were disappointed over how underused Huey was in the show and he definitely got overshadowed by Dewey’s antics and Louie’s popularity. When we saw he was the one who inherited Donald’s infamous temper I was really looking forward to seeing more of that and Huey being the ‘sweet and timid but holy hell do NOT get them angry’ type character.

I love Ducktales! I wish people would talk more about it. Season 3 was definitely my favorite, a lot of great episodes in that season! I do wish we had more Violet, Webby, and Lena content, as well as Della, Donald, Fethry, and Gladstone episodes; an episode with just Della and the triplets together, or even just Donald and Scrooge mending their relationship as a main focus of an episode. I do wish they did more with Huey, but I feel like they did have plans for him but were forced to sideline him in the last season to make room for tying up loose ends before the finale. Still, I am pretty satisfied with what we got, even though I wish for more. The animation and art design is gorgeous, the humor never fails to make me laugh, and the heart of the story is always felt. It's not perfect, but it's definitely a 9/10
@moasoobin88642 жыл бұрын
Same, and i totally agree we need more huey moment. Since each triplet have a lot trouble and learned from it. But, only huey who has less trouble among them. Since season 1 it like dewey's season and season 2 like louie's season, i expect season 3 focus more on huey. But i think it was not huey's season at all more like family season or webie's season since huey become just like season one or two with little focus in there. But it was sad there's no more season at all.

My biggest issue with this reboot was, that it had way too many characters. I heard, that studios nowadays need to have a balanced cast when it comes to gender representation, so it seems that for every important male character in DuckTales, they needed a female counterpart. I'm not sure if this is true, but that would explain the huge cast.
@Quirderph2 жыл бұрын
Granted, I think that most (or at least a fair amount) of said characters were adapted from the comics. It's just that they've run far, *far* longer than the equivalent of three seasons, so they can manage a ginormous cast.

I will say CellSpecx., that if you want more Huey interactions and character growth, might I recommend my OC the Smiler? He is the polar opposite of Bradoford Buzzard; chaotic and emotional. If Bradford represents the villain Huey will become, then the Smiler represents that rage gene Huey's scared of. Huey is destroyed from the Smiler's behaviour and joins Bradford to stop this chaos, until he realises how the Smiler came to be... What do you think CellSpecx?

This was a fun series. I imagine there were plenty of times when they thought "I can't believe they are paying to have this much fun." I'm content with the 3 seasons we got. I'm sure this talented bunch could do 5 and not feel stale, but I'll take 3 if it means they work on something else with the same level of passion and humor. I'd recommend reviews by Seanicus. He does some fantastic deep dives not just on the episodes but the background on which they are based. A few thoughts. After the introduction of Lena, i assumed if Gossalyn was introduced she'd be a teenager. Between Webby and Beakley getting kick butt implants, I wanted to see what someone between their ages and the source of that kick butt attitude would look like. They are not paying the full orchestra enough. Whether it was the Moon Theme from the NES game or Chip & Dale's Rescue Rangers, the orchestra made it feel so much grander and so epic. I'd love to be in the recording studio when Jaleel White guest starred in the Quack Pack episode. "Into the Sonic-verse" is a go!. Nah. I just imagine these two yucking it up and having a grand old time. I think one of the keys to the shows greatness was a sense of fun. Whether it was having Beast Boy and Starfire as hippie mermaids or Daisy and the boys interacting (something I haven't seen happen ever. Even in Quack Pack, Daisy interacted with Donald. Donald interacted with the boys, but never Daisy and the boys) But there was always a sense of how can we make this funnier. The one drawback was the large cast. The upside was you had so many to play off of each other. The downside was not everyone got the screen time for everything to payoff. The finale where Launchpad felt like he was slowing everyone down. It comes out of no where, but if he had been the focus of that episode it would have played very differently. I think Disney would be mad to let this creative team go. Whether it is another Disney Afternoon reboot or something original. I can't wait to see what they have in mind.

I enjoyed this show for the most part, I just really hated the remake of Mrs Beakly. Why they felt it needed to turn a kindly, caring, grandmotherly house maid into some kind of hyper masculine, buff secret agent that is apparently stronger and more skilled than every other character was an absolutely bizarre choice. And while I enjoyed Webby for the most part, turning her into a mini-secret agent and primary fighter was also just weird. It is a bit of a pet peev of mine as well when people want to make a "STRONG FEMALE CHARACTER" in order to check a box. And you know it was done entirely to check a box because it was so uninspired. They had no real plans for Beakly, they just didn't want her having a traditionally feminine role like house keeper, so they turned her into a secret agent...? Very weird and stupid. Also, Webby could've had useful skills and talents to help the team as well without being a mini-beakly who seems to have the most skills in most situations and the most capable in most situations. Again, feels like they were too afraid to write a female character that wasn't just outright superior to her male peers and it shows. Its a damn shame too, because she was almost a really good character if they had just toned her down. There was no hope for Beakly though.
