As I was watching, I got Leafie: A Hen in the Wild vibes. Like so many scenes made me think of it and I got way more emotional than I expected to. I’m glad it wasn’t completely the same film though. Not that I expected it to.

As much as think there are pacing issues and an overly random arc-structure, I don't mind those as much as long as the production is still going. Season 2 had at least a continous streak of episodes coming out 1-2 months apart (counting the shorts), and there's no dead air like between Episode 7 and the next release. I take it over the next stylish new indie animation providing a good-looking pilote and literally nothing else for years.

As someone born in the early 2000s, I remember watching Toy Story 1 and 2 on VHS years before Toy Story 3 came out. They had to have been one of the first movies I've ever watched. I still appreciate 1 but my preference was always 2 because the Woody's Round Up merchandise, the refurbish scene, and that iconic 3rd act at the airport. As the years went on, I started appreciating other aspects of the movie like Jesse's backstory, Buzz's interactions with Woody and Utility Belt Buzz. (Gee they really dumbed him down in TS4.), and the smart writing between the side characters. I had to have been transitioning to the 2nd grade when Toy Story 3 came out in theaters and I remember being so excited for it, of course I watched it in theaters and I loved it. Ever since, it's been a war between TS2 and TS3. TS1 was the pioneer of theatrical 3D animated movie releases and it still being almost as good as TS2 and TS3 really sells them as the best 3D animated trilogy of all time. Comparing it to other animated trilogies, not a lot of them compare in quality. Who knew I would of been exposed to the one of the best trilogies in general within the first decade of my life. There's a lot of movie's I haven't watched yet but I'm glad these weren't one of those.

I showed my mom this movie even though she can't stand the Minions. But she loved the 60s references (she was born in 67) and I showed her the sequel because the 70s references and she grew up in the 70s. But her favorite scene is when they started doing a Minions cover of her favorite song, "Hair" from her favorite musical/movie, "Hair" (she had a crush on Treat Williams).....she busted out laughing. She hates the Minions but she loves the movies.

I also assumed they retconned it in the film, but after watching SEVERAL video essays I’ve realised it’s not a retcon - it’s a recharacterisation. Leo was never as much of an a-hole as he was in the movie. The reason he behaves that way is because he’s got an inferiority complex manifesting as false overconfidence, which, when coupled with Splinter’s, “btw you’re the leader,” leads him to go out on his own in an attempt to prove himself, which is what he THINKS a leader does. This then leads to Ralph having to take the fallback for it, and pick up his messes, which continues the structure of the show (Ralph as basically the leader), with the ribbing at each other of previous editions as an added bonus.

The new villains are perhaps more realistic and, as you said, touch on ideas that are great to introduce to young audiences, but there's just something about the older villains that I adore. The drama, the fashion, the absolute BANGERS older villains songs are, the fact that there's no guesswork involved, they're just straight up evil, whatever it is, I kind of miss it.

I LOVED The Wild Robot. I didn't think I would. I thought I had already predicted the entire plot by the start of the movie and how it was gonna try to tug at my heartstrings and all that, but it just felt so raw and real that my partner and I cried on two separate occasions during the film. I love the humour in it as well, the jokes (and slight gosling abuse), I felt, were never out of place or overstayed their welcome. I was pleasantly surprised, and this is going to be an immediate recommendation for anyone even slightly interested :)

In defense of Hans' actions when it came to taking Elsa alive, he didn't know how to stop the snowstorm any more than Elsa did. He didn't know whether or not she knew how to stop it. For all he knew, killing her would've made the blizzard permanent. He was forced to try killing her when she revealed she didn't know how since the other option was doing literally nothing

"Only ONE good scene'?! Come on, you forgot 'did you try plugging it in?!, I told you, it's not that kind of phone line!' Seriously though, I completely agree with your analysis of this movie, and I'd be REALLY interested on your take of the show, because it feels so much like they very, very deliberately (and mostly pretty well-done) made up for the lack of definition of the characters, but also, at the expense of letting the brothers be together as a group? I don't think it's the wrong choice, just an interesting one. Also, to be honest, I don't hate April being a love interest though, if only because - despite it never being fun or satisfying - it would also be crazy to me if none of them were into her. Their first female, human friend? Who accepts them? I think it's crazier that there's not more... fighting for her attention among them, even if she's never interested in even one. Especially since they're teenagers, it feels like they'd have crushes on her before they even know better; so it's nice that at least it never comes to that in the franchise - I think it's one of the MANY many reasons Rise April is the best to me though, of course I can believe nobody has a thing for her when they've already been close for years, and she's almost literally their sister. God, I wish Rise had gotten more... but I digress. I think not having April as a love interest would be unrealistic... even if it benefits nobody at all. 😅
