This is the 1st video of a mini series of videos about cleaning the duckweed from my pond. The duckweed has grown and spread to a very thick and compact layer all over the entire problem. This is the worst it has ever gotten in my pond. So, now I have a major job to clean my pond, so that I can let all the ducks out of their pen and into the pond. Using a bucket and a 7.5hp water pump to skim duckweed from my pond. Water is pumped through the hose to a screen where the duckweed is filtered as the water flows down a large piece of plastic and back into the pond. The plastic prevents erosion on the edge of the pond.
So, follow me as I have several trial and errors trying to perfect my method of "Duckweed Removal."
Give me a "Thumbs Up" if you like them, comment and ask questions and I'll try to reply as soon as I can.

your problem is a nutrition problem. you need to think about the "design" of your pond. lookup natural swimming pool it should be able to teach you ideas about managing a pond. otherwise, it's like turning on a fan when you smoke so you cough less. the what's making you cough isn't the smoke it leaves sitting in the room. it's the cigs your smoking.

What's the setup for suction that is floating in the water? Did I hear you say that it is a cat litter bucket?
@beardedprepper8606
@beardedprepper8606 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is a 5 gal bucket that cat litter comes in. We have cats, so I have plenty of these buckets and never have to go buy a bucket from anywhere. I connected a 2 inch pvc coupler to the bottom side of the bucket and used rocks to help weigh the bucket down, so that it stays low enough in the water to allow the water and duckweed to flow over the top edge of the bucket openings which I had cut out on two sides. Without the rocks weighing down the bucket, the bucket would float up out of the water because the pump sucks the water down so fast. The 2" pvc coupler on the bucket was attached to 2" pvc pipe all the way up to the gas powered water pump. This method worked good, but I later used a better method without a bucket as you can see if video # 3. So, go to my videos and watch the 7 video series on duckweed removal when you have time. I had intended on making more videos for the series to show the finish of the whole process, but I didn't get to finish making videos on it due to all the many tasks which life throws at us all.

In the end, it all worked out good. There's was only a little bit left which my wife and I finished removing with pool skim nets over the period of a few days. But, it was all gone and the pond looked awesome. Then after a few months heavy rain it started coming back and now the pond is one again covered in green because I didn't have time to clean it before it got bad again. Plus, I think that one reason my pond gets this way so often is because it is an old pond and there is years of debris settled on the bottom. One day I hope to get the bottom of the pond cleaned out and hopefully that will help solve my duckweed problem. But, the process I used for removing the duckweed worked very good and I hope to have the time over the next couple of months to do it again.

What pump are you using?
@beardedprepper8606
@beardedprepper8606 5 жыл бұрын
If you're talking about the pump I was using for removing the duck weed, as I mentioned in the video, it is a 7 1/2 hp water pump with 2" inlet and outlet. It's a nameless Chinese made from Ebay. It's gas powered. It's worked great and still does. Never had any issues with it. But, if you're talking about the fountain pump, it's an old pool filter pump with a 3/4 hp electric pump that can run on 110v or 220v ac.

@@beardedprepper8606 I was wondering if I needed to get a semi trash pump for the duckweed or just a regular one.
@beardedprepper8606
@beardedprepper8606 5 жыл бұрын
@@noway05guinness61 the pumps I used for this are semi trash pumps. If you used a pump that's not semi trash, I'd make sure that you have a screen system at your suction end, so not to do damage to your pump as it may stick down sticks or other debris.
