Ducts vs No Ducts - CINE3 3" CineWhoop

Here's a little comparison of my DIY CineWhoop with and without ducts. Bottom line: since these "ducts" seem to act mostly as propguards only, it seems to fly better without them.

That's the Reptile Cloud 149 cinewhoop frame. One of the few frames Catalyst Machineworks sold that wasn't their design. It's the smoothest flying quad I have. Like butter floating on the wind. Check your PID tune....

Purpose of ducts on cinewhoops isn’t really for extra thrust. Main purpose is the duct drag decelerates your quad when you pitch up. That way, you can slow down without having to pitch backwards so much as to lose the object you’re following. Also, it doesn’t seem like your cinewhoop is tuned properly. They’re extremely difficult to tune because there are a lot more factors to consider (weight, duct clearance, duct profile, PID, prop shape, etc).

I just followed basic setup on Beta Flight, no PID tuning, mine works great :) What do you by tuning, what could I do better?

@@peterkortvel Blackbox tuning is probably the easiest and most accurate. Make sure your FC has gyro logged into the blackbox and you can dial your quad in so that it's locked in.

I did a build with the HGLRC Sector 150 frame and ended up taking the prop guards off after breaking a couple sets. It took some tuning to get it flying good. Have you done much testing with the pid's on this? I'll bet you can get it a lot better, maybe try different props since the ducts are off now... Enjoyed watching you fly buddy!

That is a Good Idea , Camera and Battery under for a lower center of gravity , for Video Stability ! ... We use to land on Legs and have gimbals with stabilizers ....... all for More for Stability ! On top you have your Antennas and GPS and your heavy stuff is down low ...... Now the racers , freestylers and Speeders took over with Big Batteries and Flips ! ..... They want the agility for their quick turns and flips .... You want Both ?! ...... Moving your motors to the arm tips and using balanced 2 bladed props might help ........ That was a lame crash ........ you were doing excellent until then , good thing you only broke a prop ! ..... But , you did teach a lesson ....... Don't push your Luck ! ... :-D

Try using 850 mah 3s. You might get better performance
