@Victoria3232-j7o6 жыл бұрын
Mark Deters That truck is constantly falling apart that goes for any other old car or truck it actually cost more to keep a old car or truck going then a new car or truck when you add up that the old one breaks down and add up when most of these old trucks were beat the heck out of so there usually worn out so there going to need a Engine or transmission you can buy one test to see if every thing is okay but your still taking a gamble but don't expect your going to drive it 100 thousand 200 thousand trouble free miles.
@jakecreech16596 жыл бұрын
charger master Oh come on do you really believe that you would stick tens of thousands of dollars into an old truck to keep it running? Even if you had to buy a new engine and transmission you'd have less into it that a year or two of a payment on a new truck.
@P7777-u7r6 жыл бұрын
New vehicles dont go for 100 to 200 thousand trouble free miles theyre all built like appliances now to be thrown out and buy a new one These old trucks can be kept going very easily if you work on it yourself and theyre easy to work on yourself

No news here, I been driving my 1985 F250 4x4, 6.9L non turbo diesel since new for the last 33 years, hard to beat, I spent the first 15 year doing a lot of heavy trailer pulling and I did have to have the C6 transmission rebuilt at 274,000 miles but its still going strong today.
@stevestonacek71286 жыл бұрын
I bought my first 6.9 Diesel Ford in 1986. I ordered the F250 XLT 4x4 super cab with bucket seats and a four speed manual shift. 1986 was the first year with a true four speed gear box. I absolutely loved that truck. After owning it for a couple of years I installed a Banks turbo and exhaust system and loved it even more. We pulled a 32 foot Toy House loaded with four quads all over the west coast. She was a work horse and I kept it for thirteen years before trading in. The truck cost me 16,000.00 new with every option Ford had in 1986. I'm glad to see that there are still some around.

My truck started out with the same powertrain as shown in the video. Now its turbocharged, has 3.08 gears and E4OD overdrive automatic. Last year I wrapped up an extensive restoration with period correct two-tone colors. Even with all the work over the years, it was nowhere near as pricy as a new truck, and I can fix anything on it myself. Even bone stock they are great trucks that can be used as real trucks (they were only available with a full 8' bed). I drive new trucks for work once in a while and I still prefer mine. Only thing left to do is a 4wd conversion....

Dave, I hope you can read my comment, because you got a sweet deal on that '86! Those old Ford IDI trucks will shoot up in value as long as they are original and not beat up (and not turbocharged). Brings back memories for me when, in my local school district back in the 1990s, we had the 6.9L IDI diesels in the 1984 International S-1700 Thomas buses backed up to the 5-speed manual and air brakes. 1983 was the first year of the bull nose body styled Ford F-250 and F-350 trucks to have the 6.9L IDI diesels (as well as the International trucks and buses during '83) until 1987 when the Ford trucks were redesigned with a brick nose body style that used the last of the 6.9L engines. The 6.9L and 7.3L IDI engines were the best engines by International, in my opinion. For me, reliability in older diesel engines do not matter as much as performance. I saw the video and am glad you got this all original IDI!

Marcus Crawford yeah I'm trying to figure out if I can keep the C6 auto but I don't know if I could just swap a Diesel valve body from one of these on it or not. It's got a vacuum line going to it but a diesel doesn't make vacuum.

I’ve got one; 1984 F-250, auto, 96,000 actual miles, and cleaner than his. ( Bought at estate auction where miles were verified.) Gets 19-20 at 65 MPH. in Elko area. (5000ft) As far as towing? I used it to pull a 8,000 lb trailer from Pendleton up to Baker Oregon. 30 min later and many Switchbacks, at 35 mph, in second speed, I made it. I had plenty of company in the truck lane, some of whom I passed. It’ll do the work but not at high speed. The strength is in the torque at around 1200 rpms. Entertaining offers now, because it isn’t a 4x4 and Elko is definitely snow country!

I've got a 1984 diesel f250 like this and although it's got less curb appeal than this one, I love it. Had it for 15 years now. That 6.9 and 3spd auto are really fun to drive. They sure don't build them with character like this anymore!

$1500 is a great deal. I paid more for my 84 and this has a cleaner body and interior. These are good solid trucks.

Heck, I could've told you that! I own a 1988 Ford F 250 extended cab long bed with the 7.3 IDI diesel. Mine has cruise control that works and A/C that don't. Those old trucks had better build quality than the current crop of Fords, Dodges, Chevys. It rides like a tank and is built like one, so it lasts 30 plus years.

I have an 86 F250 supercab with a 4 speed manual and the 6.9 diesel. I keep it at 60 mph or under and get 20 mpg routinely. Very reliable work horse.

They hardly smoke if the air filter is clean and the exhaust is un obstructed, the fuel injection pump was fitted with a cam driven timing control to advance the timing via pedal position and automatic transmission models had a control to variate that when the transmission shifted, also indirect injection with pre combustion chambers burned more completely and quietly creating a gurgling diesel sound rather than the clattering of a direct injection engine. I had a 1991 Ford with a 7.3 idi-na and I loved it. 180hp at 3000 rpm 398ftlb torque 5 speed manual zf transmission.

Wow, does that take me back... growing up, my dad had a blue ‘84 F250 diesel just like this... 2wd single cab... but his was a manual 4 speed. Put 280k miles on that thing before the block cracked. I believe these engines were made by International Harvester.

Had no idea other ppl loved these trucks so much. 86 bronco w/ 5.0 here in Denver. Bought mine 3-4 years ago for 1000 w/ 105000 miles, now has 114000, thing is a beast off road. I do question that truck being from Cali thou and NOT rusted like its other siblings, is it bondo city under that paint? But even if it is, who ever he got that truck from really took care of it, or put alot of money to fix her up, either way that was great buy dude.

Loved this model!! This is my favorite Ford body style. My dad had an 85 F150, 2wd short bed with a 300 6. Loved that truck.
@twoeightythreez6 жыл бұрын
Andrew Jackson Yeah..its a looker. Ford basically copied the Chevy bodystyle (1974 to 1989) for this generation of F series. (1980 to 1991), because its just such a classic good look for a truck.
