It was funny listening to Matt Mercer talk about how he got the role of Vincent. He said he always wanted to voice him so when he got a call to come in and do some voices for the game he got all excited. When he got into the booth they gave him a script and it was for npc dialogue and it wasnt very much and he felt disappointed but was gonna do it anyways but then they told him to look at a screen and some stuff showed up on there and then all of a sudden Vincent showed up. Thats how he found out. They trolled him 😂

Those of you worrying about Cid, I don't think you should write off his character so soon. They're very likely saving the cantankerous aspect of him for the next game once his story gets going. We saw a hilarious glimpse of it during the crash scene. He was more irritable, and it was hilarious when he pointed and laughed at Yuffie. In Rebirth I think he's putting on polite airs because the party are his customers. It'll be different once he revisits his past in Rocket Town. I'm excited for the backstory of him and Ifalna too.

Matt Mercer was practically BORN to play Vincent Valentine. He’s used a version of this voice for Hit from Dragon Ball Super and Levi from Attack On Titan, but I didn’t know he could add that much weight to his voice as Vincent. My theory about Cid's characterization changes is that he's going to be the one with the most drastic character arc in the 3rd game. His home/job/plane/astronaut dream will be stripped one after the other leaving him bitter and angry until some late game side-quests and main story beats teach him how to enjoy being kind again.

They went full Bloodborne with Vincent his theme was so good. Nibelheim is such a well designed zone it's smaller but so fun to traverse after Gongaga and Cosmo Canyon where a bit messy. Fyi guys, incase you didn't pick up on it, and this is a spoiler for viceroy sarruf; . . . . Sarruf is Rufus, it's his alias from when he created avalanche to undermine is father prior to the events of the game. It's literally a version of his name backwards, it's more obvious in the Japanese translation. The whole angle is clearly to destroy faith the people have in Rufus, lodbrok is gaslighting and goading Rufus in that scene of the footage.

@@bradreed4414 see the only reason I see Sephiroth interfering with the political tensions between shinra and wutai is because the junon canon was built to aim at wutai specifically in order to keep them down like dogs. In the original game, this canon is moved, and used to destroy sephiroths barrier at the northern crater. But if wutai are warring with shinra at that time.... Well, odds are the canon will remain at junon to be used against wutai.

Watching Max's childlike excitement, surprise, and wonder as he encounters things like Vincent and Cid joining the party, the addition of new side quests, and especially the pirate bit at the end reminds me of the excitement, surprise, and wonder I and others experienced in 1997 as so many new and unexpected things happened in FF7 on PS1. Personally, Rebirth has too many mechanics and such for me to get into playing it myself, but I'm enjoying watching someone play through it who clearly has love for the original like he does. I admit to skipping over a lot of the side quest stuff but the main story progression is just so satisfying that I look forward to each new episode.

How I feel about Cid in Rebirth is he's still working with Shinra. So I see Rebirth as this is before they gimp him over. Sure, it happened in the original when he shouts and curses. But I see on the developers or erhm the writers take. You don't want to meet someone, and their screaming and hollering at you. It's all about first impressions. So, in the third game, when they get ro Rocket Town I have two theories. One, they get to Rocket Town Cid is kind to Shera until crap happens between him and Shinra. Then he's angry and yelling. The other theory, they get to Rocket Town, Shinra gives Cid the boot and he(Cid) is liivid. He tells the gang to leave him alone. You fight Palmer with or without Cid until the match is over. Then Cid joins the group to go after Shinra. THAT will be the time his persona will change, cursing, shouting more, and smoking.

Just got to the end, and as enjoyable as the entire chapter was, the ending with the Pieate Map and chat saying its One Piece blew my damn mind, lol. When you were saying earlier in the video about how FF7 has a somewhat odd mix of very serious and very silly going on, my first thought was how One Piece is like that. Not to mention FF7 and One Piece came out the same year (1997)... AND THEN THE MAP. AND THE STORY, AND THE 4 LOCATIONS. Pretty damn sure my eyes bugged out of my head when it all started clicking. Did Max luck out with the best glitch I've seen? During the Vincent fight Bahamaut just stayed in the fight like he was summoned but, there was no bar decreasing on the screen. It was like he was summoned by Moogle Magic, but he just wanted to stay and keep attacking. Did Cait Sith dying make that happen or something. Was really helpful having extra damage while Barret was alone lol.

The same happens with the Mogbot, too. When Cait goes down, anything he summons stays out until it's health hits zero. Summons don't have health, though, so they just hang out lol

I don't mind the character change for Cid. He's still cool, but he's actually a nice guy rather than what he was in the OG 7. I agree with the whole "Han Solo" thing with chat. I wonder if they are saving Rocket Town for Remake Part 3 or just getting rid of it entirely. (Turns out they are more or less confirming Rocket Town for Part 3) VINCENT IS SO COOL...I just wish he was playable because his boss fight was so cool and it shows the potential of his play style for Part 3. Matt Mercer is great as Vincent, but he sure as hell does not eclipse Steve Blum's voice work. Matt Mercer's voice sounds soft and gloomy, which fits well since that is part of Vincent's character, but they aren't his main traits. Steve Blum's voice was deep and very sharp, which was more appropriate for the intensity that Vincent is supposed to evoke due to the various monstrous energies he harbors within him. Blum's voice almost sounded like a growl at certain points. It worked so well in Advent Children when even Cloud could feel Vincent's dark power when he touched Cloud's shoulder. As for Cid, he was always a "Southern Gentleman" trope, even in the original. All of his anger and resentment revolves around Shinra and Shera's messing up his spaceflight. He really ain't different in Rebirth, we are just seeing him busy and far away from those things that trigger him. Although, if you pay attention, you see Cid's rough attitude with Barret. They both have very forward personalities, and are very tense when they interact when Barret rags on Cid about still associating with Shinra. We are seeing Cid keep his cool in Rebirth because he apparently has fond memories of Ifalna, which is the newest thing about Cid. This history with Aerith's mother moves him to assist Aerith and her group with compassion, so I hope we get to see if there was some deeper friendship that blossomed between him and Ifalna during his early days as a Shinra engineer.

I don't mind the change they made to Cid's character. I just can't help but feel like his introduction was rushed as a result of them saving Rocket Town til part 3. By the end of the game, it still felt like the party barely knew Cid and that he was kinda just hanging around in a sense, in fact I felt as though Vincent actually had more of a presence in the story than Cid did.
