Kulem, castle rock is in braganza ghat, earlier there used to be a stop in dudhsagar station catering to tourists, you might have noticed view points near the falls. We used to trek from castle rock till dudhsagar about 10kms. Ippo niruthitanga. our usual travel is from bangalore to dandeli, (Dandeli Anshi Tiger Reserve) dandeli lerndhu castle rock station vandhuttu we take the train route for trekking.

This one (Vasco Londa) is straight route and the original line which was metre gauge earlier(till 90 s) from British Portuguese period , The Dudhsagar station had scheduled halt for mg trains . For long time till 2000 reaching Dudhsagar , even the bottom of the falls ,was difficult task by road . This place near the bridge was accessible only by train . Castlerock is the 1 st major station of Karnataka from Goa side .castle Rock is hill on Western ghats and since much of the Karnataka which this route covers is on the Deccan plateau so it is hill climbing from Kulem to Castlerock . In The early 90 s Konkan railway laid the lines . They kept the alignment with Vasco Madgaon line.and so between Majorda and Madgaon both Konkan railway and South Western railway line (earlier part of SCR) had same alignment .After Madgaon the Konkan railway turns right (South)towards Mangalore . The Castlerock station was in fact was entry for the Portuguese administered territory ( Goa)( in erstwhile times) , entry permits were checked since Karnataka and rest of India was British administered territory

Me and my friends went to Goa trip for the first time in 2017 and travelled from Krishnarajapuram to Vasco Da Gama via Hubli, Dudhsagar. Was a little tiring journey but the scenic views were great!! I think we travelled in Chennai to Vasco express!!

The goods train that you captured at Kulem was running with braker locomotives (Penta formation ie. 3 brakers +2 main locos) at the front for additional braking and support for downhill operations. They'll be detached at kulem itself.
