Interesting behind the scenes of kayaking, thanks for sharing. Is it necessary to have a licence ...or can we just take the kayak on the canal? Also what happens if we encounter a boat?

Hi, yes you need a river/canal/waterways licence if you want to go on a canal. The easiest and cheapest way to do this is through British Canoeing. They offer a countrywide licence for less than the price of say, The Canal and River Trust and it covers almost all of the country. I think I paid around £45 last year and that has Public Liability Insurance included. If you encounter a boat don’t panic, they will slow down and avoid you - just be helpful and keep out of their way. We paddle on the right hand side unlike the roads!
