Constructive criticism: In the planning phase, let the player choose different colors to draw. So a flashbang can be drawn white, a HE-Grenade is red and wallbreach green or whatever the player prefers. Colors could be changed via mousewheel if that doesn't do anything else already. Or right click maybe.

Seems odd to me that the door charge had such a large explosive radius to kill both Sam and Niko in that room. I know it's enough explosives to punch through a wall, but the wall is going to absorb a lot of that shock. Perhaps shrapnel is the explanation? Either way, it seems a bit much to me that the wall charge demolished the entire room like that. I feel like the sights on the "Sten" SMG for the Robbers needs a bit of a touch up. The angle of the sights, combined with the arms, takes up a really large portion of the screen and obscures a lot more vision than I feel it should. It's definitely an accurate perspective for where arm placement would be, and maybe replacing the blocks with actual arms will help the issue, but I just feel like they're really in the way. In the same vein, I feel like muzzle flash is a bit over the top currently. With the "Sten" as an example, the arms and the gun itself takes up the entire bottom and the middle-left part of your vision and covers it. When you fire, the muzzle flash fills the remaining area, making it entirely impossible to see what you're actually firing at. Now that clutter and furniture seem to be more prevalent, that raises the question of "Can we move the furniture around? e.g. to barricade doors, etc." While I certainly think that the defenders should be able to move items around the building and do things like push desks against doors/walls and push shelves, etc. over, it raises the question of how the attackers would deal with something like that. Would it be really simple to push out of the way and thus not be too useful? Or, like every other situation, would it be really hindering unless the cops brought gear to deal with it? It's a thorny balance issue, but I would certainly enjoy seeing move-able objects. On the same note with level design, I know that second stories in the form of either 2nd floors or basements were already considered and were taken out earlier for engine debugging purposes, (and I really hope they come back in.) but I would like to see more variance in the single story we have. For example, I find it odd that this building has absolutely no windows. They don't need to be huge, but I think the addition of little holes in the walls to act as windows would really change the dynamic of the single existing floor. When the level design expands back to include 2nd or 3rd stories, or possibly basements, it would allow for new situations to play out, where basements are small and cramped but the worry of windows or wall charges doesn't exist. For the attackers, a 2nd or 3rd story window might mean being able to toss grappling hooks through them to make a faster access point, or grenades to force opponents to other stories. Now on the note of equipment for future implementation: my earlier mentioned idea of grappling devices to ascend to multi-storied buildings would be a nice way to break up choke points created by stairways. Conversely, outside ladders/stairs to rooftops could make the addition of rappels work as well, so instead of grappling up to the second floor and making the hard climb up, they could hook onto the roof and just rappel down quickly into upper floors through windows or balcony accesses. With the idea of rooftop access, we might also consider adding things like ventilation/AC units (especially if these guys don't have windows!) being on the roofs. The cops could bring canisters of gas or something to the roof and hook it up to the ventilation, thus pumping gas into a specific part of the building (which would be denoted by a visible vent in the interior), forcing the Robbers to clear that section quickly, not guard it in the first place due to the threat, or die to the gas. To counter-act the funneling of Robbers and the new methods of entry, I think they should have access to better CQC weaponry like shotguns, thus allowing them to deal with the smaller space created by a gassed room, and to more effectively handle cops coming in from more varied and unpredictable places. This entire game looks fantastic and even if only a quarter of these suggestions were implemented, it'd still be a fantastic and ambitious game. I certainly look forward to the completed product and hope you take a few of my ideas into consideration.

The Gun is not a "Sten" it is a Sterling L2A3
@kaylendable10 жыл бұрын
Developer Here TL;DR Movable Cover has been tested, it's detrimental to the game. The fantasy we wanted with movable cover was setting up your fort, it really just made things messy. Piling furniture in front of doors to barricade it took away the violence of entry, barricading choke points didn't really hinder police movement, it simply gave attackers cover. The ability to setup cover anywhere in the room was actually the biggest detriment, it made it so the police could not predict defender positions. If the attackers can not place a value on a room, they can't really make decisions that interact with that value. Big clear room with shelves along the wall? good room to clear with a grenade, with movable cover you can't make that assessment anymore, cover could have been easily moved that the grenade would be rendered ineffective at all desired locations. These problems could be extrapolated to all elements of planning. The result is that the attackers can't make an in-depth plan using the predicted defender value of a room. This makes the assault feel more "random" and very difficult for the attackers to feel that they made a "good plan" even if they win with great success. Attacks will attribute their win to a bad defense instead of a good assault. Yomi (knowing the mind of the opponent) is an element we wish to achieve in our game, it is why we use things like permanent police equipment. If the police use a wall charge, you know that all walls in the following rounds are safe and the police known the defenders known that all the walls are safe. They can plan accordingly. This kind of prediction is completely thrown out of the window, it doesn't matter if you know that the defenders known all the walls are safe because you can't place a predictable defensive value on that room the walls are located. In the end we cut movable cover, spent about a month of development time learning what our game is and isn't about.\ To sate your curiosity as to how attackers dealt with barricades, police could kick the furniture (the defenders could not, because reasons) which would topple any type of furniture with significant force. Door/Wall charges punted objects with their explosion. The lethality of the door charge that killed Niko and Sam is intentional (it use to be much larger). If I recall the door we charged we determined was bad door to door charge, but we knew that they knew it was a bad door and decided to do it anyways thinking they wouldn't treat it as a threat. We were right, they didn't.
@IceMaverick1310 жыл бұрын
Point303Operator Thank you for clarifying. The Sterling is the successor to the Sten though, no? And you still knew what I was talking about because the shape was similar :P Vincent Grubbs All of those issues you presented were my most valid concerns for movable cover, and while it disappoints me that stuff can't be shoved around willy-nilly, the decision is understandable and I'm glad you decided to stay out of the way of a troubling mechanic instead of putting it in and trying everything under the sun to make it more fair to both ends. Though I'm curious as to how it made planning more difficult, as I had assumed that moving objects would be like doors in that you could see whether they were open or closed on the map, and thus defenders moving blocks around would be visible during the planning phase as well. But I'm glad that the issue has already been addressed by the dev team. I had misinterpreted the events of the video due to the fact that during planning, one of the devs said "wall-charge this wall here" but instead of wall-charging, they door-charged the door further upwards. Closing this post is the argument I prepared against wall-charges, but I have realized my error in perception. Despite this, I feel my statements on damage are still valid for door-charges. While I agree the directional force of it should be quite deadly to anybody standing in the way, the fact that the explosive cleared a path across nearly the entire building still seems overkill, especially if the buildings aren't going to be any larger in later builds. Clearly Sam and Niko did not disregard that doorway as a threat, as both of them were posted up looking that direction expecting enemies from there (i.e. assuming it would be a threat), it just happened that the doorway exploded and shot across the building and killed both of them. While I understand that using door-charges isn't always needed to open doors, it appears to feel RNG-esque for the defenders on whether or not a doorway will utterly eliminate a player guarding it or not because there's no way to tell if they're going to kick or blow a door. But perhaps the intention is for the defenders to feel really helpless to the whims of the attackers and to rely solely on their good aim and luck to deal with whatever the attackers come up with? My unnecessary argument against wall-charges below: "For clarification, the moment I was speaking of with the explosive was a wall-charge around the 8:40 mark. Despite the intentionality of the wall-charge having such a high-explosive radius, I still felt it to be a bit overkill. The benefits of being able to create a doorway anywhere you want on the building is already pretty good and I personally don't feel like it should clear the entire room, killing all of the players within, in addition to doing so. If it must damage the players, I would rather it only kill if they're adjacent to said wall and wound/stun others within the room instead of outright killing them. Being able to essentially eliminate a team within instants of the assault beginning from a singular source seems a little harsh in my eyes."

This looks like a super awesome game already, and I would play it with little to no additional features. The fact that the Dev team is working so closely with you is pretty awesome, too. One thing I'd like to say is that they should keep the graphics pretty simple like they are now, and not try to make them super fancy. Gang Beasts has little blobs with barely any definition fighting and it looks great. As soon as you start trying to make the graphics "realistic", people will pick up flaws in it super quick. Super Mario Bros still looks good today, but goldeneye doesn't, even though Goldeneye was "more realistic". This game is about teamwork and strategy, not about being lifelike. tl;dr: simple graphics, please!

probably a good idea to have a system where your team can hear you without team speak. This seems like a very team work oriented game, and it would be nice if you can put something like what planetside 2 has. also, probably the map should be more creative. I mean, the map that i have seen is on this game play is very, one dimensional, and if they can add something like grappling hook to get to second story and such, it would be great. Also, bigger and more complex map means a little more players, so maybe test out 8 v 8 if map becomes bigger. I am only saying these things because many small games like this gets crushed by triple a titles, simply because triple a titles does it better. Capitalizing in the teamwork oriented game play, and how this game is about besieging a enemy hideout would be great.

Its not that hard actually to do, from the look of the early versions of the game i can easily tell there using unity3d. So what they can do is have different game objects moved up each level. and use a random number generator via script to dictate how many levels will the script producally choose from those game objects. and once they do they can just spawn the prefabs to create a room. So for the windows scenario. they can create a breakable window via script and prefab. And have the grappling separate. Its easy stuff really if you are a game dev, well most of the time its not as easy as it sounds.
@jesseclark71059 жыл бұрын
The one major problem with that is then you need to cycle between and draw on multiple floors. As you can see from the footage, it takes these guys the entire planning time to come up with a plan, choose roles and pick equipment. They'd have to increase the planning time. Plus, you would have even more options, which, in this kind situation, is more of a bad thing because you only have four people.
@Perplaxus10 жыл бұрын
1. The art is so cool. Keep it that way. 2. The buildings could have a second floor. Since the core mechanic is planning, second floors would be hard if not impossible to breach for the attackers (attackers would NEED stairs or something ... climbable to enter the second floor's windows), making them the golden spot for defenders. 3. Sentries! Just make sure that they are fragile and don't do much damage. Nobody likes god-like sentries. 4. IF you actually consider multiple floors, the maps might get much bigger. To compensate, change the gamemode, make it focess defending a briefcase. The attackers win if they take the briefcase back to the car (but naturally, if a team neutralises the other, it's an instant win). Do this to avoid ridiculously OP nests and to avoid annoying defenders that hide somewhere in the map. 5. Gigantic skillcap. Seariously. Even if it means putting secret stats on weapons. Or secret strats... idk just do it. 6. Objects should be slightly pushable. Just so that the defenders can surprise the attackers with a cover that TOTTALLY wasn't there before.

It be good if it had some melee weapon (tactical of course) and a multi level map with rappelling or stair option for attacker available...

Heck no. The designer would know exactly what the map looks like and what to do with it before the game even gets to the planning stage. I wouldn't want to play on someone else's map because, if they're smart, they'll design it to give themselves plenty of advantages. Random generations guarantee disadvantages to both teams, which is a necessity for any balanced game.

Add "Quick Symbols" like "Breach Here", "Frag Here", "Stand Here (also indicating direction of aim" and these are quick accessed through the 1-9 keys, so players won't have to spend so much time drawing (but drawing is still enabled, i'm not saying remove drawing, i do emphasize on "Add Quick Symbols"

How does our feedback even help the devs, if you're not actually playing the game then your comments are literally irrelevant to them, instead focusing on taking feedback from those who are actually playing the game :)
@Elmithian10 жыл бұрын
It can be everything from suggestions to bugs that the players themselves don't notice because they are too busy fighting each other. So... they can learn a lot from people that are viewing since people are often more critical when they watch other folk play than when they play a game themselves. I hope that explained it :D

I was actually kinda bummed that the characters wouldn't be boxy. I liked that part of the gameplay the most. The focus seemed to be on the best possible way to clear the map; picking the c4 charge and flash-banging in or kick open the door, shoot the lights out, and go all sam fisher.

Dev-ie dudes. Add a instant replay after the battle/fight so so that you can see the carnage and the planning that the opposing team did through the planing window after the battle. and having like, multiple floors would be epic. but like only 1 or 2 floors.

This game looks absolutely amazing, these devs are funny guys and they really have potential to get this game popular. I personally can’t wait to try it, also I’m not sure yet but with the random generated maps, they should also have random generated weapon caches
@benpederse825910 жыл бұрын
Great game for even in Pre Alpha. I would love to play it myself. If I could add something to it it would be wedges. Wedges are "blockers" that you slip under a door, preventing any way to open the door.

I think that if they added a sandbox aspect it would be cool like you could move things around to turn them into cover or knock down a area of the map.Also a roof entrance would be sick or a multiple level area with more people in the lobby
