I watched Soledad Urua's videos and asa lifelong resident of Los Angeles County, born and raised here, I totally disagree with her !! Drugs and alcohol, I'll get to that : but I can state that it IT IS INDEED A HOUSING/ RENTAL ISSUE ! I wouldn't be surprised to find out she's in the real estate business or is a lobbyist. For 40 years up to this day, rents have been out of control because there's a permanent housing shortage. Many dwellings have been converted to condos, or simply bulldozed and not replaced. Just the same tiny vacancy rates as in 1980- 81. That started it all. Add to this a huge influx of people, and there you go ! In addition, affordable housing was never built to keep up with the population surges. Inflated rents resulted. There are many seniors and disabled people who can't afford the rents, and are homeless also,keep in mind. The drug and alcohol addicted need rehab, the felons/ predators need lockup. America is unrecognizable, because corrupt politicians from both parties began the policies creating homelessness. Garcetti and Co. are corrupt liars. And these officials steal housing funds for the homeless, causing deaths, and mayhem like this Venice situation. Venice has always been kind of rough, but homeless issues are a terrible new horror. I lay this at the leaders' feet. It's on them, they siphoned away the money over the decades. Rotten, both parties ! Rehab/ affordable housing is the only way out, along with returning our good jobs and manufacturing. Nothing else will work !! Five people a day are found dead, who were homeless. A disgrace for a modern nation. Pitting the homeless against housed people, instead of solving this crisis, is very clever, and profits from warehousing the homeless, shelters and agencies from this. They are complicit as well. German in Venice, please take note !

They really need to get rid of all of their anti-poor laws that drive so many into homelessness, and make it impossible to rent an apartment. The median GDP in L.A. is not high enough to afford even a tiny studio apartment - it's heinous.

Most don't want help other than they want people to give them money for drugs/alcohol and food. They want people to bring it to them. They are living in tents because they don't want to work and pay bills, they would rather live in a tent and do drugs. It's true. I've spoken with many of them over the years. In many areas there are plenty of beds and room in the various homeless shelters but most homeless won't use them because to stay there they have to abide by the rules of no drugs and no alcohol. That's the main reason they are in a tent because they don't want to live by rules, they don't want to be told what to do, they don't want to work, they only want to get high and get drunk. The best thing about the homeless shelters is they can help people get jobs to give them a way out of being homeless. But 95% don't want anything to do with it. I don't know how many homeless encampments I've seen that were directly behind homeless shelters. It's because they only want food and money, they don't want to live by rules. Don't believe me? Go ask about 50 of them and also ask them why they are not at a homeless shelter.

Nobody paid their rent because they can't make money with the town littered with homeless encampments. No incentive to pay the rent.
@myblacklab73 жыл бұрын
Or it could be that rents in L.A. are ridiculously high, and wages are ridiculously low. So many people move to L.A. with money, and move out in utter poverty. Those who have nowhere to go end up homeless. Those who come from other places quickly find that housing is so overpriced they couldn't possibly afford even a studio apartment, so it's homelessness or death.
