Like you were saying... things improved. Old style chainmail gave way to riveted chainmail which helped defeat more pointed weapons. But... as we know, black powder was developed and then armor started going by the wayside.

Re: 18:43 ...I think for a lot of people the interest in the later periods has to do with the emergence of documentation regarding sword techniques. Probably the same reason longswords are so popular; they have a lot of source material about them that survived and was translated. Of course they are also big and fast and flashy (I happen to be biased, like longsword, myself, but wish I knew more about sword and buckler, that was where it was at!)
@duelist19544 жыл бұрын
I wonder how common duels were in the 1000 AD to 1300 AD period? I'd guess most fighting was in full kit on horseback, which is a lot different than fencing....a lot harder for most people today to replicate too. I would guess young knights trained for that, rather than sword and buckler fights. Even trial by combat for the nobility usually started on horseback in that era. Not something the average guy today can afford to buy into...though I know a few who do....but their incomes are far from average.

How did you get into the medieval stuff? Medieval stuff was huge in the Victorian era and Augustus Pugin brought back the gothic style to England in the Houses of Parliament in the Palace of Westminster.

That climate change he talked about was apparently caused by a volcano island in Indonesia blowing itself apart. It caused a 2 year winter. The island is now known to historians as Ancient Krakatoa. One of the remaining pieces became the volcano island of Krakatoa which also blew itself apart in 1888. One of Krakatoa's pieces is currently the volcano island Little Krakatoa. It's only a matter of time.

Good value with the Dynasty Forge blades. I have a feeling their quantity control is better with the European models than the Japanese. Have you read any Bernard Cornwell's books?
