In this video we’ll be visiting the first annual Kempton Gunmaker’s Fair in Kempton, Pennsylvania.
This is the firs year for this even, but really it is a continuation of the 37-year tradition of gunmakers fairs at Dixon’s Muzzleloading Shop, which is also here in Kempton.
Covid cancelled the Dixon’s Fair for two years, and the Dixon family had decided not to start it back up. But the Honorable Company of Horners, The Jacobsburg Historical Society, the Pennsylvania Federation of Black Powder Shooters, and the National Muzzleloading Rifle Association stepped into the breech, and organized the successor gunmakers fair, which was held in the Kempton Community Center, across own from Dixon’s Muzzleloading Shop.
This is a wonderful show, and I’m glad that Covid didn’t take it away from us.

Constitutional carry is our right. When the constitution was written, and long afterwards there was not any gun licenses anywhere in United States. There is no mention of people being confined to the State they live in order to carry a firearm, and everyone at that time brought their firearm everywhere they wanted to go including across state lines. Outside of my home is anywhere in the United States as a legal citizen. Because the Supreme Court stated text , history and tradition is to be used, any legal citizen of the United States should be allowed to carry their firearm anywhere in the United States without a license or permit. Constitutional carry should be the law of the land. Call or write your local politicians and the ones in Washington to let them know how you will vote if they don't represent your rights. Please pass this message on to others.

When the Constitution was written people walked everywhere they went. Wild, dangerous animals were everywhere along with natives who were very angry. There weren't so many people willing to kill defenseless children while they're at school. Anyone can still own a gun whether they are crazy or not. When crazy people own guns bad things happen. Permits are there to weed out some of the crazy people and I understand that not all permit holders are necessarily sane. I'm in favor of permits. I have 2. I can carry in most states in the Union except Washington state where only residents can have a permit to carry. My son lives there and he has his permit. There's been so much abuse of the 2nd Amendment that I find it amazing that we haven't become Canada or Australia where nearly all guns are illegal. If we keep abusing our rights we lose them.

Dixon's Muzzle works is awesome! I visited the shop a couple months ago, looking for musket caps, and was blown away. If you haven't been there, go, you won't be disappointed. Many historical guns on display. Their selection of goods is on par with Dixie Gun Works.

Thanks for posting this video, Mike. I saw this a while back and it stuck with me. I ended stopping by this year to have a look at things. Very impressive workmanship, and nice to see some of the demos outside around the spoon carving, blacksmithing etc. Yes, it’s mainly a muzzleloading rifle show, but there were many talented craftspeople there. Glad I went and interacted with several of the vendors.

Wow, there are some beautiful things there, thank you so much for sharing. Mike, how common was that level of extraordinary craftsmanship? Did your average schlub on the frontier have a rifle like those? What about those double-barrel rifles--were they common?

Some would be the North-South Skirmish Association, National Muzzleloaders Association. But yes, I don't know where to find most of the ones Mike goes to. For reenactments, that is a good question where many are listed. Just by being around these areas I know they sometimes have reenactments at Fort Dobbs and King's Mountain in NC. The over mountain victory trail, which is the route patriots took to the Battle of King's Mountain passes through my town, there is a Rogers Ranger's reenactment in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, Bristol, RI has a great colonial reenactment around July 4.

Check out Black Powder Maniac Shooter and Muzzleloader TV also. Mike got me into BP about 2 years ago after being in the shooting sports for 40 years. It's not just muzzleloading but also BP cartridges. Some local CAS shooters only shoot Holy Black cartridges...lots of smoke and that great BP aroma!

I'm so bummed. I meant to go to this event this year and I forgot and missed it. I was researching two years ago and missed the last one at Dixon's, we all missed the one that never was, and I did not have this one marked on the calendar. I was visiting the Fort Chambers Muzzleloaders Gun Shop last weekend and thought of it too late! Aarrgh! I'll have to wait another year for the next one. Thanks for posting this so I could see what I missed Mike!

You are very lucky to have shows like that where you are. I am in Ga. and as far as I know we don't have such here anywhere in the state. I am getting back into muzzle loading somewhat. I have a 40 cal Mowry that I bought as a kit a very long time ago. I am working on that. Didn't like the tumbler so I machined a new one that works much better. Great looking rifles there...

H.R. 38 Reciprocity Bill H.R. 38 would allow people with state-issued concealed carry licenses or permits to conceal a handgun in any other state, as long as the permit holder follows the laws of that state. It also allows residents of Constitutional carry states the ability to carry in other states. Call or write your local politicians and the ones in Washington to let them know how you will vote if they don't represent your rights. Please pass this message on to others.

Speed of a bullet self defense. When bullets fly through the air, they do so at amazing speeds. The fastest bullets travel more than 2,600 feet per second. Explain how an unarmed person, confronted by a bad guy with a weapon or , baseball batt, knife, etc. A outruns a bullet. B has time to get the phone out. C has the calm or wherewithal to call law enforcement. The bullet travels over 1,800 miles per hour. To put that in perspective, it's amazing to realize that bullets travel over twice the speed of sound Explain how law enforcement is supposed to travel faster than a bullet traveling 1,800 mph to save a life. Even if they get a call. Sadly Innocent people everywhere are defenseless, when confronted by the bad guy . There is no superman or super hero like on TV faster than a speeding bullet to save the day. Why don't politicians who believe in firearm control give up their weapons and have body gaurds without weapons. This is why I believe in the second amendment and self defense. Call or write your local politicians and the ones in Washington to let them know how you will vote if they don't represent your rights. Please pass this message on to others.

@duelist1954
@duelist1954 2 жыл бұрын
Here in Pennsylvania, the earlier style rifles are more popular. That is understandable because our frontier history is rooted in the French & Indian War, and the Rev War era. The southern mountain style guns are early 19th century designs. You see them here, but not to the extent that you see the colonial era guns.

Duelist, I know that the indian made flintlocks are frowned upon but a lot of us dont have the money to invest in a pedisoli or custom made gun. One distributer, Access Heritage arms, sells guns that they claim are designed to be fired. I've seen many videos of people having good luck with these guns. I recently purchased one, item # MTS-003 Brown Bess carbine (ships rifle). What are your thoughts on these indian made guns?
@duelist1954
@duelist1954 2 жыл бұрын
They are a good option for re-enactors who fire blanks…if anything. Overall, it might be un-fair to generalize. I have heard that some work well. Personally I have only seen one that burst it’s barrel. The most common problem that I see personally, and that people write to me about is bad locks. Some can be made to perform, but I’ve seen a couple that were hopeless, and needed to be replaced with good locks, which cost a couple of hundred dollars. As with most areas of life, you get what you pay for. If you just want an example piece for the wall and to enjoy having and holding, these Indian guns are a great value. If you want to do serious shooting or hunting, I would look for a good used gun or an In the white kit.

Wow I moved away in 2022. Didnt know the event changed location. What a loss, as Im sure all the instructional goings on at the show over at Dixons can't happen at its new location. Like the blacksmithing instruction and all the other trades. No throwing tomahawk, shooting guns, throwing knives, sword fighting demonstrations etc. Nor one of the best parts, the firing of the Cannon each hour!! Well at least it didnt end entirely.......
