The Movie received little attention at the premiere and almost fell into oblivion. It wasn't until Steven Spielberg became more popular that the Movie got the attention it deserved. I think it's one of the best psychological thrillers ever and I watch it over and over again. 👍👍🤩

It wasn't like this in Europe where it was released to cinemas only (nobody in Europe knew it was a TV movie). It created a big splash, actually. Another thing is that cars and the entire "driving" is not as much a "thing" in Europe so the entire concept of "road rage" was completely unknown. Instead, the film instantly acquired a status of a sort of fantasy or a metaphor for... something, it felt very deep because of that. It definitely was not seen literally. IIRC it won an award back then at a film festival devoted to fantasy films (San Sebastian, I think). So Spielberg was noticed immediately, soon followed by _Sugarland Express._ Unfortunately, soon after that Spielberg got swallowed by the Hollywood machine and he never really reached the heights that looked so promising (with the possible exception of _Schindler's List)._ Long story.

When you think about it that David is basically the underdog of the movie as it starts. He is just a typical guy doing his typical work. Actually the movie turns into a David versus Goliath type of concept. When you think about the start of the movie and how he is mild-mannered and he talks about the fight that he had with his wife and how she is controlling. Then the truck appears and we all know the scenarios which happened as he tries to battle his situation with the truck being the monster. Eventually he summons up his inner manhood to go from mild-mannered to a warrior type of concept to defeat the monster and eventually wins. As other people have said, Steven Spielberg was brilliant as far as being able to take the entire scenario of a vehicle chase across the desert with just enough lines in the movie keep the situation going to its eventual end. An absolute masterpiece!

@Sindimindi2 жыл бұрын

Also hatte der LKW wenig Gewicht geladen.
