At first I didn't even realize it was Alma on the piano. At first I was thinking her and her friend both wore red. And then I thought maybe Alma cut her hair to match same length of her friends hair because they are best friends and want to have same hair length. Then when it zoomed in on the pianist I was like wait a minute...that's Alma!!!! Isn't that crazy I didn't recognize at first?!!!!

The violin is the only instrument that can truly touch my heart…I remember visiting France as a young man and in the many back streets of Paris I stumbled upon an old Jewish busker and he played “Yiddisha mama” and he played with such feeling I burst into tears I will never forget him I’m sure he is with the Ángels now playing his violin.

I love the way Ms. Deutscher interpreted this Schubert's Serenade with such a sweet air of melancholy, depth and full of emotion. Other violinists (even the great Anne Sophie Mutter and Izahak Perlman) seem to play with too much sweetness and make this serenade overly romantic. It seems to me the lower voices of cello (Camille Thomas and Beautrice Berrut), viola (Carr-Petrova Duo) and sucj vocalist as Peter Schreier and Fischer Dieskau suite this melody better. While checking others play this music, I notice they start the first part low and move up to high when they play the second part, which is opposite to what Ms. Deutscher did. I feel Ms. Deutscher's version evokes a feeling of sweetness, melancholy and longing much more effectively in telling a story. It's not one dimensional. How she can make her violin sing with so much emotion!

I've loved Schubert for as long as I can remember (and that's a long time). In college, my music-majoring friends told me, "forget it, Rick, Schubert's derivative, unoriginal, didn't move music forward." My mother was a pianist. The first record she bought to 45 rpm was Mozart's horn concerto no.3 K.V.447. It was in 1956. For me, as a 9 year old boy it was a revelation to get acquainted with Mozart. --- In the light of post-rationalization, I have thought that when everything else is muted, Mozart's music will soar light, humorous, serious, but also forgiving throughout. One night in 1957 I`ll neverforget. My mother was sitting at her piano and playing as so often before. I'll never forget the piece either .-- It was Ständchen by Schubert or Leise Flehen meine Lieder.-- My two smaller sisters stood and "played" with the treble and bass, which children love. I got annoyed at them and lifted them away from the piano. She finished playing the piece, but in the final beats, she had begun to cry. Very quiet, but she cried. I did not understand then why and I still do not. She closed the piano and we were sent to bed. During the night she had a stroke and her left arm and leg was permanently paralyzed and she sold the piano. Every time I have heard that piece of music, I have had to go my way to get to grips again. - I have thought that I must do something about this. In 2012, I learned the piece on my classical guitar. It was so hard so hard, but it was necessary.
