Join along as we dive into the 1979 Kenworth after a transmission noise and issue start. With some wrenching it's clear the transmission is shot and we have a new one on its way. Thanks for watching along.

Chris, I was a floor trader in Chicago. As such, I was required to wear a 2 or 3 letter acronym badge as my identifier for other traders. I chose the letters "PMA" I did so because I sat across from Chicago Insurance Mogul, W. Clement Stone on the way to my job interview in NYC. In addition to being a hugely successful business man, he founded the life changing concept of Positive Mental Attitude aka PMA. He's more famous for that than all the money he made. I'm telling you, you and he are kindred spirits. You are the poster boy for PMA. Never change man, you're truly a breath of fresh air in these modern times of whining and complaining.

Man I feel for you underneath that truck on that cold concrete floor. I have been there and done that so I know what it's like. Even working in the cold it's good to have friends who will let you use their shop till you can get your own. Well you have a new engine so if you get a new trans you should be good to go for a while. Some new tires and you are set. There are other farming channels but I have to say your struggles are true to life and real. I have followed you for a good while now since before you left your parents farm and all that situation. You are making it happen. I don't know how you keep such a good attitude with some of the challenges you have had but you do. You got some good friends so don't take them for granted. Just stay off the throttle and that new trans will be fine...

I bought a massey ferguson 35. Looked it over very well drove it and worked it. Decided it was in great shape and bought it. I got home started it and backed it off the trailer and it broke a valve spring and dropped a valve destroyed the piston and cylinder liner. Some things just happen and you can't blame anyone. If it's mechanical it will brake.

It's a lovely truck. After these false starts, you know you're going to have it for a long and happy time. I've never bought any older vehicle that didn't need something! It's just pot luck how much "something" turns out to be.

Chris my first truck a 1981 w 900 400 coming 855 block 15 speed 4 11 rears first to weeks tran went out. two months later motor went down had commings rebuild ran it about 50000 miles I turn it up 565 to the ground . Make sure you got a bigger turbo and injectors When Commings found out they had a fit . Just watch exhaust heat .the best thing about that truck parts are cheeper and a hand full wrench and fix it. The best part about that no payment. I still own the truck.

Hey Chris be on the lookout for a four wheel dumping wagon. I got it for you to help with cow silage. It holds up to 600 pounds and maybe a little more sturdy then a wheelbarrow. Not sure weight of hay bales, but it can help with partial bales of those as well. If you don't like it, you can also get one of your own and use this for your daughter. You can park it under silo chute and let it fill from silo silage as drops. It's gonna need some assembly, but look forward to seeing you use it. Let's see if you remember who gave it to you in your video with it???? Like I said, if it comes to your house with both you and Yenko on mailing tag, it's probably from me if Amazon. Surprised you don't set your account for gifts as well 8f people order through you, then you get a small kickback that doesn't cost them anything extra. Think Brian's Farming videos does that. It's something to look into, even if it's a dollar every year. A penny saved, is a penny earned. Have a good Friday a d look forward to you using the cart.

I ran trucks throughout Europe for years. You either buy new and go again when the lease is paid or you pay for the maintenance. In your situation you are best buying an older truck and paying the maintenance as the Kenworth will be on the road less frequently

I've been watching your videos for a couple of years now, it was the red mack project that really got me hooked. Your mechanical ability and balls to fix anything never ceases to amaze me. You maybe haven't had the best luck so far with the Kenworth but as many have said, F all those F'rs that are saying that you should have bought something new etc and basically paying another mortgage just so you can not properly own some "modern" crap that you can't or are "not allowed"to fix 🤔😂 I run a 27 year old volvo v70 TDI, yes it's a bit rough round the edges, yes it has nearly 280, 000 miles on the clock but I payed F all for it, and it just works and I like it and like you said, if something goes wrong, I don't mind spending money to fix it because it doesn't owe me anything anyways 🤷 Great stuff as always, keep doing what you're doing you're doing it well and are an inspiration to me 👍👍👍 Thanks, from the UK 👍

I went through 3 Fleetpride rebuilt transmissions on my 1987 KW w900 before I bought a new one. They would wine so bad in a certain gear it drove me crazy. It was like they put a new gear against an old one. The original failure was the cooler got a hole in it and filled the transmission full of coolent , deleted that and it never ran hot.

Oof, heard it as soon as you grabbed that input shaft... Only way youd have caught that was to do the clutch at just the right time. If there isnt a core charge, id store that one til you got a little jingle in your pocket and rebuild it and hang on to it for a rainy day. If i remember rightly though, fleet pride should have a core on transmissions. If ya like the 15, run it Chris, it handled that power fine for a lotta years. It may not be ideal for your power train on paper, but it held up for quite a while. Bad bearing aside, seems to me it was doin fine under the previous abuse. 18s are nice, im partial to 13s personally, but if that 15 is yer jam, roll coal bud. Haters gonna hate, let them be jealous. You do you.

@frankwurth537529 күн бұрын
Some one mentioned about just rebuild it in house, With that many gears chewed up, it isn't advisable. First by the time you buy all the parts, bearings and gears etc, you'll spend more than an exchange unit. second, when the gears strip that bad, the debris going between the rotating gears, it distorts the housing between the bearings, and that has to be corrected, which requires some serious specialized machining. I'm thinking that some time in the past a driver didn't know how to shift the thing and tried to force shift it and took a few teeth out . then those floaters in there did the rest. Some people should never be allowed in the cab of anything, including lawn mowers! The place where I drove for, would hire some guys that never drove a manual before. The one took out the trans twice on one truck and the clutch was always being worked on in the shop before the idiot moved on. Once he broke something he would try to grab a different unit by claiming made up things. When another driver ended up stuck with his disaster, they would have to be the one to call the shop. Bastard would never admit he screwed it up,
@jimcivitello391329 күн бұрын
Tough break on that trans. Have you ever tried camerota truck parts they seem to always have all sorts of things in stock.

Not sure if you can on a 15 speed but on the 7,10 and 13 I have done you can hang the clutch on the input shaft bolt the transmission up and then bolt the clutch to the flywheel. Way easier then trying To spline it up while sliding together. Are you replacing the pto box? They are a catch all for any metal from the transmission at least clean it super well
@danielrenovetz572128 күн бұрын
Ole 2 Stroker did as you say, hang the clutch on the input . 60 years working in various shops, never saw anybody replace clutches that way. How you gonna install thos 3 shims Duffy took out . Are they anti rattle springs ? never saw them before ?

Chris the input shaft should have some movement. More then likely you had a counter shaft bearing go bad. 15/18 speeds are known for going bad. The head gear witch is the gear at the front of the tran. Not uncommon for that gear to brake teeth all the power from the engine goes threw the head gear.

The 15 speed will be fine as long as you dont beat on it loke a race truck or off road truck. Its an on road trans and will handle your power fine. Problem will be the reman trans, they always cut corners to keep profits up.

15 speed pretty tough depending on what series you have. In the late 1970's early 1980's heavy 15 is what they put behind big engines like KT Cummins and CAT 3408 they produce alot more torque than a 855 is going to.
@zcole661229 күн бұрын
The power hoping on the hill with a load of hay probably didn't help . But if that truck sit for a couple of years with half dry bearing is what I'd say caused it to fail

Now as to pulling it out and putting it back in as i had a 9513 come off a transmission.jack and almost ate me . Nah ya don't need a 18 speed and the 13's are every where for under 1500 .
