Derek, you definitely should do more diesels. That blue scout ii diesel is my personal favorite revival! I recommend getting an old Ford 6.9 idi pick em up truck or a 6.2 detroit diesel squarebody. Both are very simple and and are near unkillable engines. It would be cool to see you revive one. Thanks for awesome weekly videos and all the hard work you put into them!

Regarding performing the service under a lift. We Derek fans remember seeing him in Minnesota doing what most of us have done: working on his mostly 'gravel' driveway, putting the car on jackstands, lying on his back to drop the trans pan so he could do a trans service because he couldn't afford to take it to his local shop and pay $250 (or more) for something he could do himself for about $40 for the fluids, gaskets, and filter. Derek has worked hard to get the wonderful shop and lift(s), therefore he deserves to do this job as comfortably as possible. 🙂

Hey buddy, that Allison spin on filter is supposed to have a magnet in it that you transfer from one filter to the next, comes from the factory that way. Also the valve body acts up on those and is easy to change out in the future. Thanks for the bonus episode and thanks for all the content you and your family provide!
@whitecx38336 сағат бұрын
Ditto on the magnet, they always get tossed

Don't the shift solenoids like to be replaced too? Can't remember for sure but I seem to remember having to have those replaced one or two at a time every now and then on the dually I had...till the crank snapped in half lol
@RoadRunnerPerformance5 сағат бұрын
@@ssykes80 yeah replacing the entire valve body does that, just replacing the solenoid doesn’t always fix it because a lot of the problem is scoring inside of the valve body and it jams at the solenoid, while you’re in there, you can just replace the whole valve body with solenoids and all and have a peace of mind that it’s all done as long as you don’t see a bunch of clutch material in the pan
@SuperDriver3793 сағат бұрын
A guy might as well get the six speed valve body conversion from calibrated performance.

I run an Echo saw too. I was looking at saws at Home Depot. A Hispanic guy walked up and simply said “that one. I do for work. That one.” I took his advice and have been happy. That saw can sit for a year. Three pulls and it’s running.

I remember this truck! I was so happy when you got it, and I'm even happier to find out you kept it and keep using it! Please don't ever sell this truck, I hope you restore it as much as possible and keep her forever. I have a very similar truck, mine is white 2006 GMC sierra 2500hd extended cab 4x4, but with the 6.0 gas engine (this truck is a chunky Corvette lol), I got it at 300,000 after it sat for 2 years with the previous owner, went to pick it up with my dad, drove it 600 miles back home praying it wouldn't die lol, then got it up to speed, replaced all fluids and filters, spark plugs/wires, nearly all the suspension, tires, brakes, now it's still running like a champ at nearly 315,000, runs better than my car that's 10 years newer lol. Or if you are not that interested in this year truck maybe restore her and make her a giveaway! These trucks are treasures!

I've been using K&N air filters since 1970 if you don't need the high flow, go with something else.Use pantyhose or an Outerwear's as a pre-filter. If it's been without a pre-filter "gently" clean out bugs etc.. with a tooth brush Never ever blow it out with compressed air. set it in a pan and spray the cleaner on the inside of the filter let it soak for a bit. Then rinse with warm tap water through the inside. Don't over oil it. It's SO much easier to service using a pre-filter. I've been using pantyhose way before Outerwear's came out. They keep the sand out. I'm too old to cut/burn firewood but I still have an MS170 & an ECHO 2511t limbing saw. I gave my MS361 to my son. Greetings from n.w. Orygun

I've ran a CTS3 on my Duramax since 2017. You can't trust the different settings. Mine is best on the next from the wildest one. Best mileage, towing power everything. Try each setting in different circumstances. Every truck handles them differently. I've got over 600,000 on mine and still going strong. Only thing I've ever replaced was rear differential. That was my fault.

More diesels yes please. Also if you’re burning the cherry flavour diesel you might want to look into throwing some atf in there to lubricate your high pressure pump. I lost mine and apparently it might have been due to that reason. I’m not a mechanic just advice I was given by one. Forums are for and against it as with any topic. Looking forward to seeing this one back yet again. ✌️

I run a Milwaukee rear handle single battery M18 saw. It does well cutting up camping and bonfire wood a few times per year (truck bed full of small hardwood logs 4"-8" 6-8x per year), and it keeps up on the property well. Nice and quiet, no fiddling with it beyond sharpening and chain tension. Not as powerful as a bigger gas saw, but it'll sure cut a lot of wood.

I know a lot of people love diesel trucks but being retired from Caterpillar Tractor Company I started out on the shop floor as a welder and retired as an engineer. I worked at several divisions but at one time I was test driving and inspecting track type tractors. D6 thru D11's and they didn't have cabs on them yet so the exhausts would be right in your face, kinda got tired of smelling diesel fumes. When I worked at the engine division it was amazing how far you could push the hp's with just software tweeks though.

I had a 2014 Ram 3500HD quad cab, long bed (single rear tire, not a dually), and I would easily pull 40,000 lbs with it on a 36' gooseneck with zero issues. I somehow burned the clutches in reverse and shattered every planetary gear in the front diff, but it was all covered under warranty and repaired. I got it brand new and drove it until it had 258,000 miles on it and I LOVED that truck. I put a tuner in it as well as a full cold air intake, a tasteful full 5" exhaust (NOT a straight pipe and NO trashcan tip). It was an oilfield truck, so it had the full steel front bullbar, the headache rack, the full length step bars, and a toolbox. I had to get rid of it though when times got tough, or I'd still be driving it to this day.

Other than oil changes, trans fluid changes 3 or 4 power cubes, a couple of brake changes with rotors, typical chevy brake line/hose change and a tie rod end , it has been pretty much what I call maintenance issues. Honestly I just put it's first alternator on it. It's my every day driver and my tow rig. I use it like a truck should be used. My nickname for my rig is the Exxon Valdez for obvious leak issues. Doesn't matter if it's 110 or - 5 this old girl just starts right up and goes.

Thanks for the diesel content. I would love to see a 6.5L chevy diesel truck revival from the early 90’s.

Hey Derek, great video, my dad owns a dirty max, it's 18 years old and he gets on the road about 21 mpg, you can't say anything bad about a gm product.

That's a nice solid truck you got there, hard to beat a diesel motor, cool upgrade as well.
