Peter leaving Charlie's body in the backseat was purely a shock response. It was not a conscious or rational decision. Extremely traumatic incidents can literally cause your brain to momentarily shut down and you just resort to basic motor functions.

Plus he's a teenager who just got put in this horrific situation out of nowhere and he just got super h!gh, what a nightmare for any kid. if that had been me at his age I don't even know what I would have done... Edited to add that it was set up earlier at Grandmas funeral scene that Charlies parents are prone to letting her leave the house without her epi-pen 😢 If she had it on her at the party she would have lived, but I guess that's the evil influence working behind the scenes to get Charlie out of the way.

Something reactors miss every time is the jar of the Ditany of Crete in the grandmother's belongings. Now, it's never explained, but the Ditany of Crete is a plant that gives Paimon the ability to take control of the person who ingested it. It was in the grandmother when she transferred it to Charlie via breastfeeding. It was in the teacup that Annie drank from, and she pulled a piece of it out of her teeth while meeting with Joan. It was in Peter's bong when he was smoking under the bleachers with his friends (the "friend" on the far left can be seen smiling at Peter the entire time, and again at the tree house at the end of the movie). The father didn't ingest any because he wasn't necessarily a part of it. The amount of details in this movie is unbelievable.

I have a recommendation: "ABCS of death" parts 1 or 2. I've been a horror fan for 35 years and these are the most entertaining movies I've seen and I've seen a lot including "human centipede". These movies are shorts with a death based on a letter of the alphabet each with thier own director. Every story is vastly different and each director was given full freedom to do whatever he or she wanted. It's beautiful and a piece of art as a whole, disturbing, funny, and everything in between. You two would love either one.

The fact that Toni Collette was snubbed for even a NOMINATION at the Oscars for this role should be considered a crime. Also, the dinner scene has so much tension in the movie and when I saw this in theaters, I felt like I got yelled at by Toni Collette and that's how good she is in this movie.

Agree, I will never understand her performance being overlooked. I also felt the exact same way at the cinema during that scene, felt like being a kid again. Also the car accident scene followed by Toni's cry was one of the most intense experiences I've ever had at the cinema. Cinema was full but you could hear a pin drop. It was a herculean effort to hold in my emotions. I'm so grateful to have seen it on the big screen.

The Grandmother, Ellen Leigh is pure Evil. She married Paimon (one of the Dukes of Hell, King of the West), and tried to incarnate him into her son. Failing that, she placed the demon's soul into her own Granddaughter, Charlie. The cult of Paimon, under "Queen Leigh's" guidance, orchestrated the death of Charlie, so Paimon could be transferred into a male body, which happened to be Peter. Despite what Annie's mother promised in her letter, it is unlikely that Annie and her family would receive much reward for all of their sacrifice. You can't really trust a Lieutenant of Hell's legions; even if he is your husband.

I feel like a lot of people are confused at why the dad died instead of Annie when she tossed the book in when we saw her sleeve catch on fire. The thing is: Paimon tricked Annie, he made her think the book was connected to her, so when she tossed in an act of self sacrifice, she watched as she had been duped by the demon and her husband burns to a crisp.
@jackgammon149010 күн бұрын
Yeah, so basically, you were correct. Charlie was King Paimon in a female child body. Annie wouldn't let her mother anywhere near Peter as a kid so they werent able to use him as a vessel at the time. They needed Charlie to die and then use Peter as the new vessel. That's why he started seeing and hearing things after the ritual with his mom and dad was conducted. Also, why the mom's brother accused the mother of "putting people inside him." There's also hints that the only guy friend of Peter's who had dialogue directed toward Peter was a part of the cult as well, seeing how he's the one that told Peter of the party. There are so many little tidbits sprinkled out through the movie that I and I'm sure many others didn't catch the first viewing. My favorite being when Annie is reaching for one paint bottle and another falls over onto the piece of paper with Joan's phone number on it, even though she made no contact with the paint bottle that fell, it's so subtle I've only ever heard one person mention it on their first viewing. Truly a crazy movie that not only uses horror by SFX and lingering shots in dark spaces, but the horror of mental illness, or what could be conceived as mental illness in the film's universe, but is actually decades of subtle manipulation by the hands of a mother with an unsuspecting family and her followers.
@dylankincer96552 күн бұрын
Bro i saw that too but you could see the soul / light apparition come from behind annie and knock the bottle over. Literally charlie / Paimon trying to get Annie to conjure the house by saying that ritualistic chant Joan said could have them talk to their “loved ones” if it even was them. So genius.

I watched the 5 hour+ breakdowns on all the details in this film and the stuff you guys pick up on - the woman (it wasn't the mum, just a funeral attendee) touching grandma's lips, as well as the inscribed text on the walls of the house, in the bedrooms -- all are little breadcrumbs showing the ritual is taking place from the funeral onwards - the cult that is comprised of most of the minor characters throughout the film are secretly entering the house, digging up the grave, and taking all other steps to ensure Paimon's arrival. and yes the mother uses miniatures to cope and deal. also a visual metaphor for Paimon/cult watching the family edit: in case it wasn't already said, when the mum first explains her family in the grief counselling meeting, the decoded meaning: grandmother is married to the occult in a way where she seems like two people. She wants Paimon to possess her husband who starved himself, and then her son, who took his own life. The mother subconsciously understands the danger of grandmother and keeps her own son from him, even wanting to remove her own children entirely in the sleepwalk state to save them from the fate grandmother was crafting all along.

What the amazing toni collette stated in an interview.....Well, it is possible that at a subconscious level, Annie feels that her kids are in danger. And that there is no real way of saving them. Like her brother, an escape from this is death. This is why, in her sleep, she has emptied a can of paint thinner on her kids and her self and tries to set them all on fire. But as she lights the match, she wakes up. So does Peter. After that, Peter becomes estranged from his mother. In a later scene, Annie explains that she wasn’t trying to kill them, she was trying to save them. This pretty much adds to the theory that she subconsciously knew that her kids are worse off alive.

I love how they play with the idea of the unreliable narrator. It's kind of skewed because of the hereditary mental illness, but things are also happening. The whole time, everyone is in question. The double-fake-out during the dream sequence makes me wonder if a portion of it was real. Maybe it did happen, but from her perspective, the instances are connected and fluid. Perhaps it's something she assumes in her state, but pauses in the interim. I also love the allegorical question of "Is it more or less tragic that they were sealed to their fate?"
