@@DisconnectingMoreandMore Like i said the laws are the laws, we can argue on whether it should or should not. But the fact is unless there is enough intent TO KILL or any malicious actions it isn’t murder by legal definition. Example you get into a fight you punch someone they fall and hit their head killing them, you will most likely be arrested for murder but in most cases it is changed to manslaughter or they pled down to manslaughter. The intent wasn’t there, now if you punch them they fall and you continue to kick them or smash their head the intent is there. Can’t believe i’m having to explain common legal knowledge to somebody.
@DisconnectingMoreandMore2 жыл бұрын
@@user-bi2me1kj7p I know you’re right. I’m just frustrated. Our society treats the crime(so we will just call it a crime) so trivial. It’s extremely senseless. I used to work as an FF/EMT. I have retired from it since. One of the reasons I’ve left is because I got extremely tired of pulling dead bodies out of vehicles while the drunk person sat in the back of the patrol car with handcuffs on. Or went to the hospital with minor injuries. What pushed me out was when I showed up on scene and the innocent dead person was someone I knew. I don’t drink much. But sometimes, maybe once a year, I do. And I tend to drink excessively. And in the military I drank a lot. But out of all the times I have drank, even just a little, I never got behind the wheel. Because I knew it was wrong both legally and morally. That’s why I have a hard time looking at it as an accident and something more intentional. You know you’re gonna go out. You know you’re likely gonna drink. You get behind the wheel, but you know you shouldn’t. So taking away the charge of murder, I just believe it should it should be punished more harshly. Like first DUI, 6 months in jail and you lose your license for 24-48 months. And in the event that you kill someone, you spend a long time behind bars. We have to stop this from happening. The only way to do that is to show people you will face severe consequences if you do it. As a society, we don’t do that. Most the time, first offense DUI, they see no time in jail. That’s why people become repeat offenders. We need to get them off the streets.

The merger of an active alcoholic and a motor vehicle is death on wheels. Although I only had a little VW bug (remember those?) from 18-21 when I turned 21 I came into some money and bought myself a new car. So what is the most reasonable car for a city-dweller who rarely drives on a major highway? A Porsche of course. Wheee, zoom, asleep at the wheel at times and physically aggressive to anyone who suggested maybe I shouldn't be driving. I joined the Porsche racing club and won a trophy, so obviously I was the best driver on the road! Needless to say eventually I totaled the car rolling over 3 times. I walked away without a scratch. More proof I was invincible. At age 35, after my second time ending up in the hospital not breathing, I got sober. Three words that encompass the hardest thing I've ever done, but a pathway to a life I never thought I would have. Do I regret all those lost years and opportunities? Of course, but today I am a (reasonably) sane 70 y/o individual who does her best to take responsibility for her own actions. Hard to believe that I have now been sober for half my life, or just as long as I was drinking. Keep up the good work, you sound well-grounded, but don't let your regrets stand in the way of your serenity.

The car I was in was struck by a drink driver. I was 4, this was the early 80's and I was loosely buckled, asleep, a long the back seats. We were hit head on, on a slick and rainy street on a bridge the crossed the White River. It's a damn miracle it didn't go over the side and the aluminum guard rail held up. The driver was in a sports car with a T shaped roof and one of the passengers was decapitated and two others died from their injuries. My dad and mom both went into the windshield, cutting off my father's ear and causing my mother to have injuries to her face and neck as well as a broken hand from trying to stop herself from going thru the glass. I ended up trapped under the front passenger seat, my head went thru the glass soda bottles on the floor boards. I had a TBI and had to have several surgeries to fix my hip that was compromised at birth from a birth defect. I still have memory issues and other deficits because of the TBI and I'm in my mid 40's. The driver of the car, who was drunk, had very few injuries and walked away from the scene relatively unharmed. The irony is that both of my parents became alcoholics so my entire life has been upended by drunks. Drive safely because you don't know the driver next to may do and it might save your life being aware of the dangers around you.

If they have money to plow the street, they have money to plow the sidewalk, instead of plowing snow onto the sidewalk and leaving it there, to make way for persons in cars (persons who matter). Did you know that when the traffic lights are flashing at night, the crosswalk lights don't work? Of course you never knew that because, after a night of heavy drinking, you never walked home, you always drive. Oh, but when a freight train crosses the road, lights flash, bells clang and gates drop, because the persons who could get killed are persons in cars (persons who matter). Abolish all zoning, so folks can walk to work and walk home from the bar. Nobody should be forced to participate in somebody else's love affair with their automobile. End the War on Walkers.

@FloozieOne Жыл бұрын
Actually you have it backwards. The sober driver is more likely to be injured. The reason is that alcohol primarily affects the nervous system slowing all the reflexes and voluntary actions as well. Of course this is one of the main reasons that drunks crash; they don't process the information coming to them about the situation and also don't respond as quickly as usual. Strangely, this improves their chances of surviving an accident. Since they don't see it coming they don't tense up or brace themselves. This allows the body to be relaxed as it impacts the dash (or whatever). Therefore they don't get the tearing of muscles that dislocate or even break bones. More, assuming they are wearing a seatbelt, they don't take a deep gasp of air before the impact (which is the body's way to cope with fear - think a gasp of horror), so their internal organs including their lungs don't get doubly compressed. I know this is a bit long, but I was an emergency room X-ray Tech for 25 years and I saw this over and over. Go look up how often the drunk driver walks away while the poor people they hit are killed or horribly injured. Seems pretty unfair, but life is unfair at times and all we can do is to use all caution while driving and always, always wear a seatbelt.

Here in the state of Iowa, you can literally go to a gas station (Casey's) and walk out with a cold 6 pack of beer. Until states take DWI seriously, nothing will change.

The brewery should be accountable too.

Absolutely not. There are many safe ways of getting home. It's the individual who decides it's okay to get behind the wheel and drive drunk.

No they shouldn't. On every can and bottle of alcohol is a warning not to drink & drive. It's not the manufacturer's fault if somebody chooses to drink then get behind the wheel of a car. There are other ways to get home besides driving your drunk self home.

And now they have a drunk driver selected as the vice president of the United States 2024. Tim Walz was arrested in 1995 for DUI, plead down to wreckless driving. His display of poor judgement is exactly why we can not accept this man to become the heartbeat away from the highest public office in our nation. Please don't let him get away with this.

Thank God I never hurt anyone. I will never be so careless again. My heart aches for the innocent ones lost.

My cousin was hit and killed by a drunk dude driving a ford f-250. He blew through a stop light at around 52 mph, and T-boned her Toyota Yaris on the drivers side. She killed instantly. The guy was arrested and charged with murder. I absolutely despise alcohol to this day, and refuse to ever drink a drop. She was a great woman, and she is terribly missed. Rest In Peace Theresa.
