DUISBURG ZOO: ELEPHANTS showering & bathing 🐘 | zoos.media

At Duisburg Zoo, we watched the elephants showering and bathing and also got exciting insights behind the scenes. We talked to the experienced elephant keeper Philipp Goralski.
The Duisburg Zoo keeps its African elephants in protected contact. The three elephant ladies Daisy, Etosha, and Saiwa are currently living in Duisburg Zoo. In the video, we learn how to know who is who.
Daisy was born in 1985 in Zimbabwe. She came in 2001 from the former East German circus "Samel" to Duisburg Zoo, because her holder wanted to enable her, after the death of her mate, an animal-friendly life in an elephant group. He rejected other offers. Currently, the 32-year-old elephant lady is the lead cow of the group.
Etosha and Saiwa were born in 1990 in the Kruger National Park and came from there to Lisboa Zoo. In 1996, they traveled to the zoo fo Duisburg. They came together with the bull Shaka, who moved to another zoo a few months ago.
It's not a problem for the cows, that the male left. Only during their childhood, the male African elephants are part of a group with females. Once they reach sexual maturity, they are displaced by the older cows and are not an integral part of a group anymore. The adult bulls only sporadically encounter cows and do not live in their group all the time.
Daisy, Etosha, and Saiwa are doing very well at Duisburg Zoo, which is also due to the respectful and loving care of the elephant keepers at Duisburg Zoo. They work with the animals on a voluntary basis and thus enable them to have an attractive, varied and age-appropriate everyday life. For about six years they have chosen the protected contact and it works very well.
Elephants at zoos are important ambassadors for their endangered species in the wild.

Hallo sehr Netter Pfleger der Filipe..Gilsa..und die Elefanten geniesen es das kann mann sehen aber die Pflege der Tiere gehört nun auch da zu und Sie geniesen esauch da kann mann sehen kenne die Tierpflgernicht perdönlich find ihn aber sehr sinnpatisch.Danke❤
