Happy to clearly hear the two big boys (basson and bcl); the arrangement make good use of both and the recording balances well the volume of the 2 basses vs the rest. Interesting choice to have a sax in the middle voice.

I want to learn to play 2:14 on the bassoon. Maybe I should get a bassoon first......

Yea good luck dude, the one I have is like $12,000 but I’m renting it thankfully

@@Cur7y_isPro6 Probably just going to hope for a used Renard 41. Gotta save for an English Horn first, though (since I'm primarily an Oboist), so that may be a ways out

Nice arrangement. Well done!

This looks like a very interesting arrangement! I do have one small suggestion, however. While I fully support renotating the work in 9/8 (as it always should have been), it would be much more legible if the rests were consolidated by beat. For example, instead of an eighth note followed by eight eighth rests, an eighth note + two eighth rests + two dotted-quarter rests.

Just keep practicing, as someone who played this for a solo, all I can say is keep practicing it until you master it 😄

Does anyone know why the bass clarinet is scored below the bassoon?
@driftwoodquintet4 жыл бұрын
Hey Brent! That's a great question. Because the reed quintet is such a "new" ensemble, there isn't a standardized score order (eg wind quintet). Honestly, I'll flip-flop which instrument I put at the bottom of the score. For this particular arrangement, I wrote bass clarinet at the bottom simply because for most of the piece, he's playing below the bassoon part. Honestly, I think it just made more sense when I was writing and reading it! - Ben
