I think my favorite part about my audition peice this year is that they are making the bass clarinets audition with a peice that has sextuplets and syncopated sextuplets. Then if you make it you never play more than big fat potato notes. The life of highschool bass clarinet be like.

Lovely walk-through of the excerpt. I haven't played excerpts (or prepped for an audition) in a long time, and it was great to hear your coaching; sparked some memories I haven't processed in a while. Thanks!

This piece was apart of my marching band show this year, it was our woodwind feature. While I play tuba for marching band and only play bass clarinet for concert band our woodwinds did really good on this piece. :)

@jumi060 because the place at which I rehearse is quite far and bringing my bass there is quite painful and inconvenient

jumi060 because sometimes when you win a Bass job, it isn’t a Bass job, it is a “utility” clarinet job where you play bass, E-flat and any other low clarinet as required.

How often would you say bass clarinet is included in symphony orchestra works because my band director says bass clarinet is only included occasionally so the majority of the time it's not included.

Hi. I wondered if you had the opportunity to play an EEb contra alto clarinet? I recently played a part on one for a clarinet choir, and it is amazing -- agile like bass clarinet, not unwieldy like the contrabass, but with a huge bottom end. It is my new favorite clarinet!!! I bought a fixer-upper but no repair shops are open :-(

It’s holding up surprisingly well. On the bell’s underside, at the very bottom, it chipped a bit, but some matte black nail polish took care of it!

does bass clarinet music use tenor clef as a clef between bass and treble? i'm super used to seeing it in cello music, just curious but it may be the massive pitch difference in this exerpt
@andydai6539

nope, bass clarient usually reads in treble clef although sometimes in older orchestral pieces we will read in bass clef

At 7:00, section 51, why write such high notes in bass clef, instead of switching to treble clef? Which it eventually does, but way too late.
@patrickhong
@patrickhong 5 жыл бұрын
It may be confusing to the reader by switching clefs where there are no rests to let the reader process the clef change (especially at that speed) And high c in the bass clef is no problem for a competent reader
@Zdrange03
@Zdrange03 5 жыл бұрын
@@patrickhong In bassoon they change clef in the most obnoxious places, competent readers have to be able to process clef changes that fast ;)
@patrickhong
@patrickhong 5 жыл бұрын
It’s also a “sort of” convention where if your in a phrase you don’t have to change clef unless absolutely necessary

@SpaghettiToaster
@SpaghettiToaster 5 жыл бұрын
It's a bass instrument?
@ethancampbell9096
@ethancampbell9096 5 жыл бұрын
@@SpaghettiToaster more importantly, it's a clarinet. Every clarinet (at least to my knowledge) primarily reads treble, including the contrabass. It's just annoying and I would have to learn how to read it. I feel like there are more valuable things to practice than having to switch clefts for seemingly no reason
@Zdrange03
@Zdrange03 5 жыл бұрын
Also, the number of ledger lines in treble clef for the bottommost C is ridiculous... The bottom octave should be written in tenor or alto clefs.
@SpaghettiToaster
@SpaghettiToaster 5 жыл бұрын
@@ethancampbell9096 I'm sure you're easier off learning two clefs than having to constantly read 7 ledger lines below the staff. I think only the base clarinet has a range where both clefs are necessary though. I've never seen a contrabass clarinet score but I find what you say very hard to believe. The sheet music would be an unreadable mess and I can't believe any publisher would put up with it.
