This team just got deeper. Evans shouldn’t have another DNP after last night. What a HUGE statement win 👍🏼

Scheyer needs to answer for Evans not playing against Kentucky and Kansas when they desperately needed spacing. He had Maluach on the floor at crunch time clogging up the middle while Flagg and Kneuppel were trying to drive to the basket. Maybe Scheyer will figure out his best 5 by March. Last night Kneuppel had all of 6 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists in 31 minutes. Evans had 18 points in 16 minutes and his reward for carrying Duke in the first half was a seat on the bench for most of the second half.
@HalfDayBrayАй бұрын
He still has a lot of growth to develop. He got hot, but he also had a few turnovers and miscues on D. That's why he didn't get much run in the 2nd half.
@Don-md6wnАй бұрын
@@HalfDayBray Evans had 18 points and 1 turnover in 16 minutes. Why did Kneuppel get 31 minutes? Duke needs to spread the floor for Flagg to operate on offense and they have the athletes and the depth to play a lot faster than they do. Evans isn't going to get better defensively without playing, and Flagg and Maluach are going to cover up some defensive mistakes by the guards. The guards should be pressuring and overplaying passing lanes. I don't get this plodding big guy basketball Scheyer wants to play.

@@Don-md6wn - I don't have a problem with Maluach being on the floor while guys are driving because the help defender also frees up the C for offensive rebounds and easy put-backs... their problem was not getting the shot off--Flagg with the turnovers and Kon being blocked by the primary defender... switching to Brown doesn't create any space and he isn't as strong of a rebounder. Within that context was the problem; running a play knowing KU's best defender was going to be switched out on Kon... the other problem was Flagg and Kon playing so many minutes including all 20 of the second half in at least one of those game. I was confused/disappointed by Kon getting 31 minutes in the Auburn game being that he was so little involved--I almost want to go back to watch and see him vs Evans in how they played off the ball--did Auburn do a masterful job not giving Kon any breathing room while hardly being aware of Evans and his skillset? Or did Evans work harder and got the looks. Regardless, I also think Evans should've eaten into those 31 minutes more in the second half. Evans looks poised to get more time on the court but still needs to work on the defensive side--he was getting stuck on screens left and right... he'll figure that out too but it requires being physical and his frame hinders him a bit.

Isaiah Evans should have more off ball action and screens. I can see him creating crazy space for the other guys especially if he's clicking.

@@jaw3415 I'm trying out what he did to deserve 31 minutes last night, including in crunch time while Evans sat on the bench. Kon had 6 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists in 31 minutes. Evans had 18 points in 16 minutes. Is Scheyer going to give out playing time based on performance, or do some guys get preferential treatment?
@jaw3415Ай бұрын
@ I mean Kon is a better playmaker but he looked asleep out there last night. 31 is a lot of mins for showing lack of purpose in the set plays.
@Don-md6wnАй бұрын
@@jaw3415 Kon can't break anybody down off the dribble. They need guys who can spread the floor as 3 point shooters and penetrate if teams try to run them off the 3 point line. Flagg can be the primary playmaker if they create space for him to operate around the paint.

But can we be real here. SCHYER ROTATIONS IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE. Stop playing Foster at the point he is a black hole. PROCTER as the starting point. Sion as the second team point. Evans way more involvement. Stop burying him in the corner.
@Don-md6wnАй бұрын
I wish Scheyer was as good a coach as he is a recruiter. He cost them the Kentucky and Kansas games by not putting shooters on the floor late and giving the ball to Flagg and Kneuppel to drive it into traffic. I figured Duke was short on shooters, then they bring in a kid who hits 6 threes in a half and goes back to the bench in the second half.
