My Dad named our cat Satin Doll after this, and met Duke Ellington in the late 60's or early 70's. He took a picture of him and got his autograph! He wanted Lotus Blossom played at his funeral, which we did in 2013. ❤

Our parents took us to see Duke Ellington at Steel Pier in Atlantic City before the Casinos. It was so fantastic, I'll never forget it. He was at that time what we used to call a "cool cat" even though he was up in years. So classy, handsome and charming.

This is definitely shot over an actual recording done for the broadcast, most big band stuff was recorded this way (especially for early big bands such as Ellington’s and Basie’s). Bass gives it away lol!

Man that sax section sound is hard to come by. I think a main factor to that sweet sound was Harry Carney's deep bari sound. Great band and a great tune!
