It's December! And while that usually means Christmas LGR things, these two Duke Nukem Evercade Collection cartridges were just released and there was no way I was gonna miss out on covering remasters of some of my favorite games. Especially since I got to be involved in their creation, just a little bit at least!

A correction to 07:15 - Mr. Paddock composed _the MIDI soundtrack_ for Prodeus that can be selected in-game as an alternative to Andrew Hulshult's OST www.jamespaddockmusic.com/2021/04/15/new-album-30in30-5-released-2/ Apologies to Andrew for the mix-up and I give him full permission to give me crap about it next time we hang out 😄

Can Duke Nukem II on Evercade have both Soundblaster and Adlib effects selected? The DOS version is the only game I've ever seen that can do that. It makes the sound effects "fatter and richer" than either AdLib or Soundblaster alone.

Thanks again for your invaluable feedback during development Clint, and for reviewing the games on your channel! It was a really fun project, and I hope some of the passion we put into Duke 1&2 shines through. It's still a bit surreal for me sometimes how my little hobby project has lead to working on an actual official Duke Nukem release!

Sincerely my pleasure, Niko! The passion was clear from day one, both with Rigel Engine and with all the little nitty gritty details and thought that went into these ports. I'm still happy that you were on the same page as me with how picky I was about PC speaker characteristics, haha. I hope you can continue to do similar work in the future! Perhaps even with some other shareware classics, the back catalog of Apogee and Epic is perfectly ripe, IMO.

Cheers for the review, Clint! This was a really fun and exciting musical project to be a part of, especially with Lee Jackson's blessing to reimagine his DN3D music using AdLib synthesis. Props for the excellent work here, James! I sure miss Prince's OG tracks but yours slot in quite perfectly with the early Duke vibe, I love finally having a DN1 soundtrack. It's funny, when I began talking to Blaze about the project I actually had written in my notes to recommend you as a composer since your Secret Agent HD work was so spot-on. Then when Ryan was like "we have James on-board already!" I knew this project was legit 🤘

@@Detective_L Do you watch a lot of retro gaming content? They've all been talking about it for a couple of years now. @@Detective_L Another ARM console based on the RK3328 (Cortex-A53 CPU), e.g an SBC in a fancy shell that can run packaged Linux ports from proprietary cartridges. Depending on how you look at it, it can be considered as either a glorified Rock64 or an under-powered Switch. Although i admit that with ports like these and all the legal effort put into licensing everything, at least the devs have demonstrated a lot of spirit for the thing.

It's refreshing to see the Duke Nukem Franchise not ether being whored out or poorly implemented post Gearbox. Also, Zero Hour is by far, my favourite Duke Nukem game, the best weapons, atmosphere, music, theme song, settings, levels, there's a terminator Duke and it has the most orgasmic WMD weapon in all of video games, the BMF Thunderstruck, you fire that, you are in for a ear-gasmic BOOM.

I'm seriously hoping the same love is given to Hocus Pocus from 3D Realms as well.. I want a modern platform release of that game with achievements so bad.

2:32 Clint's credit is before and more senior to Jon St. John, the voice of Duke. The padawan has surpassed the master.

They really should have adjusted the pallet for Duke Advance, since it was clearly over pumped to compensate for the dim screen of the GameBoy Advance.

This can be a subjective thing IMO; some color correction filters I've seen make GBA games look overly dim and/or lifeless, but yeah I think it really would've been best to include options here.

Should've just recreated the images instead of using the GBA sprites. Had the assets for Duke 3D right there. Only had to do what they originally did.

I'm glad to see the Evercade doing good for itself, when it was announced I thought it was going to be dead on arrival but after seeing this I might pick one up.

If it weren’t for this release I would likely never have considered evercade as a system. Considered myself extremely fortunate to have managed to get the atomic edition system and now with the knowledge you were part of what made these possible. Especially duke 1… Christmas is more than complete.

This is the perfect kind of update, I was looking at it wondering "ehh what's new?" until you did the classic flip. I guess my brain was doing a lot of heavy lifting for the original DOS version :)

I've always loved the 2d Dukes, and I thought they were just going to be emulating the originals. That's awesome that they did more than that. The pc speaker sounds were brilliant, too.

Yeah this game straight up sold me on the Evercade. Wouldn't have gotten one if it wasn't for this collection. And I have no regrets getting it cause... I'll take any Duke I can get at this point.
