It's possible that when Gearbox purchased the rights to the Duke franchise, it didn't come with the two expansions. They weren't developed by 3D Realms after all. Both Duke it out in D.C. and Life's a Beach were developed by Sunstorm Entertainment and Published by WizardWorks. When it came time to re-release Duke and its expansions as a collection, an agreement was struck between 3D Realms and the original creators (Different mappers that both worked with Sunstorm) to include them. This is really just speculation, but sometimes you get these weird legal barriers that can prevent something from being included in re-releases and the like.

If I recall correctly the reason the cross is changed is because the Red Cross copyrighted the symbol so changed to the pills, anyways great video as always one of the best channels on KZbin

It's like Doom on Atari Jaguar, where there is no music. Duke 64 and Doom Jaguar shared this fact, although with Duke 64, it has Jon St John's voicelines in tact, while Doom Jaguare had no music due to the chip that is used for music being used for the collision detection, it's ether colision or Music, you cannot have both, but Duke 64 had no music because there was simply no space to contain both Duke's quotes and the game's music

The one thing the N64 version has over any other version (other than multiplayer) is actual 3D environments. In the PC version, if you look up or down, the environments will warp, making it difficult to percieve depth and it just looks strange overall. Unfortunately, this trait is still present even in the N64 Mod for the PC version. Because of its fully rendered 3D environments and even its lacking soundtrack, Duke 64 actually feels more atmospheric and its environments feel more tangible. I recall being a kid and using the 'No Enemies' cheat to explore the levels at my leisure.

I'm planning on buying Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition and modding it. Seems to be the most common original PC version of the game. As far as I can tell, the older versions have way better, much louder sounds. The 20th Anniversary World Tour has muffled sound by comparison.

Episode 3 doesn't take place in Los Angeles; instead, it takes place in the fictional Shrapnel City, which was where the first episode of the original Duke Nukem took place.

Duke Nukem had loadsa Secrets, Hologram , Pipebombs remote detonate, OJ Simpson on TV Screens, a Pooltable with no Balls of Steel. And be able to Kick anything to Pieces... I was so in love with this Game. The Cracks in the Wall,or Vents showing U different routes. Remember the Born to be Wild Microphone. Or the Indiana Jones Tunnel, next to the Secret level. Greetings !

Cool video thanks. I think getting lost shouldn't really be that much of a down point. As some players won't necessarily get lost the same way and some people like the puzzles over just waves of enemies. Still nice to hear all the versions compared in one place.

The 20th Anniversary World Tour is great but I wish it included the three classic expansions in it to make it the complete definitive edition of Duke Nukem 3D. P.S. They changed the symbol on the medkits because the American Red Cross trademarked its red cross logo, so they had to change it to a pill.

The Build Engine. "The Build engine was truly the pinnacle of the 2.5D game engine period, which was kicked off with Id's Doom engine. Build went well beyond the features of Doom, with sloping features, partial looking up & down, rooms above rooms, and several other innovations." 3drealms.com/news/history-build-engine/ The interactive and destructible environments was another reason. The gameplay is fun and I know people praise the level design. It's humor proved entertaining at the time with its mix of pop-culture satire and nods to popular Hollywood action films. Although, humor is subjective. I prefer Doom, myself, but the Build engine was the real highlight of Duke 3D and I feel it deserves the praise it gets.
