Very fun to watch the learning experience with the other students! Right now, I'm using Ling app to study the Thai language but this video also helps so much as I can use these for more practical uses as Ling only allows me ton learn the words and not put them thoroughly in many different context. Appreciate your thorough and clear teaching :)

1) I was a man but after gender reassignment surgery, I am a woman. Do I use khrup or kha? 2) If a group of people (males, females and transgenders) want to say "We are happy", do they use khrup or kha?
@Dukelanguagebkk2 ай бұрын
1) Thanks for sharing your experience! In Thai, as a woman, you would use ‘ค่ะ' (kâ) at the end of your sentences to express politeness. 'ครับ' (kráp) is typically used by men. So, feel free to use 'kâ’ now that you identify as a woman! 2) It depends on who is speaking. Even when referring to a group of people with various genders, the ending word will be chosen according to the gender of the person saying the sentence. They could simply say "พวกเรามีความสุข" (pûak rao mii kwaam sùk) without adding 'kráp' or 'kâ'. This way, it includes everyone without specifying gender.

So the word KUN mean YOU ? and TEr also mean YOU ? So if was to say To my male friend (TER Chu Arrai) it is appropriate suitable?
@Dukelanguagebkk5 ай бұрын
Yes, both คุณ (kun) and เธอ (ter) mean 'you'. คุณ (kun) is a polite way to address someone. เธอ (ter) can be used for both genders but is more commonly used for females. While you can call your male friends เธอ (ter), it is best not to use this term with strangers or people you are not close with, as it is considered impolite.

Chan is for female and Pom is for male. but why i hear Guy say Chan somtime in a Music n Entertainment. It a little confusing as Neighbor country Lao.
@Dukelanguagebkk5 ай бұрын
ฉัน (chan) is a generic term for 'I' and can be used by both genders. However, it is less commonly used by males in everyday conversation. ผม (pom), on the other hand, is a term used exclusively by males to mean 'I'.
@reptarhouseАй бұрын
Men sometimes use Chan with their girlfriend because it sounds gentle . Pom would be too formal to use with a girlfriend. But now it’s common to use ‘khao’ for yourself and ‘dtua-eng’ for your girlfriend.

I hate it when they teach like this. Because although it's correct. NO ONE AND I MEAN NO ONE. speaks like this. EVER!!! With modern day slay and laziness... You will get so lost and confused in "real world conversations" and you will actually sound like an idiot amoungst friends. Plus you will be expecting them to talk this way... And you will be so lost it's not even funny.

Thank you for your feedback. This video depicts the very first day of a Journey 1 Thai language course for complete beginners with no prior knowledge. Speaking slower aids in correct pronunciation and comprehension. As the course progresses, we introduce more natural conversational styles. We appreciate your input as we strive to meet the diverse needs of our students.
