True. I remember as a kid, I saw Larry blackmon in a music studio, playing drums, singing a MOVING love song, in a haste,, just to put on some album. It was pretty. I heard it once, and was hoping to hear it when it came out. I'm not sure it was for a Cameo Album. It seemed to b done just to load on some album. I still think about that song. I never heard it again in THAT incarnation. This was 1981.

Larry Blackmon was an underrated drummer. He developed an unique playing style. Being a vocalist as well as a drummer his drumming was not the typical rythm section but was also a melodic section. In songs like "I just want to be", "Better days", " She's Strange" , "Word up"...The drums are literally singing the songs.

I'm 59 you clearly are way younger and not a student,EWF,The Ohio Players and Isleys Brothers preceeded those three bands they're early 70s Confunkshun broke out in summer 77 with Ffun, Lakeside summer'78 with Raid Cameo summer '79 with I just want to be... by then Ohio Players were on their way out with #1 and top 20 hits...Lakeside and Confunkshun have one Cameo has zero #1 hits yet you ask for one top song 🤡You're a bassists lemme hear some of your stuff I heard you doing other people's stuff let me hear yours since you disrespected Marshall Jones and the Ohio Players. 70s and 80s music is unrivaled…….PERIOD. This creativity was uncharted and nothing has surpassed this since. Hip hop has proven to be a diversion the from the long historical path and African continuity of creativity/music. Although, hip hop is a form of expression, which make it an art form, it pales in comparison to earlier Black art forms as it failed to continue the natural evolution of Black Creativity by relying on untalented 4th grade level poetry instead of raw talent as exhibited in this video. The success of hip hop is due to its appeal to the lower nature of the black community as it basically relies on ‘beats’ instead of melodies and simple rhythms.
