True. I remember as a kid, I saw Larry blackmon in a music studio, playing drums, singing a MOVING love song, in a haste,, just to put on some album. It was pretty. I heard it once, and was hoping to hear it when it came out. I'm not sure it was for a Cameo Album. It seemed to b done just to load on some album. I still think about that song. I never heard it again in THAT incarnation. This was 1981.

Larry Blackmon was an underrated drummer. He developed an unique playing style. Being a vocalist as well as a drummer his drumming was not the typical rythm section but was also a melodic section. In songs like "I just want to be", "Better days", " She's Strange" , "Word up"...The drums are literally singing the songs.

SuperBass1964 wrote their own music and lyrics too! Now everything is so Corporate cookie cutter. I have a hard time identifying and distinguishing the "different artist" of today. Back in the day you could never mistake the Bar-Kays for Cameo or Lakeside. There was certainly more individualism, today so many things are just so homogenous.

Larry was talking to Prince when he said: Who said that funk was done just by one(yall serious)! Who said that it was never ever done! Rumor is that a LOT if not all these funk seekers and delivers who was killing funk, then Prince came on the scene only being one man with the ability to play over a dozen instruments! It was pissing funk lords off like Larry Blackmon and Rick James,Brick-Slave- even Quincy Jones! R.I.P Prince 💜 and much love to Cameo💜 They end with:Music is here for everyone! Just to dance just to have some fun! JUST BECAUSE WE DID IT FIRST DOESNT MEAN WE CANT HAVE SOME MORE. (Cameo)

@@cccalll You must not have read my whole comment I clearly said sike and that Confunkshun had more work than Ohio Players but TOP would represent..at the same time you're disrespecting Marshall Jones(Rock) like he was some sort of KZbin bass player.. Fire and Skintight start off with two of the funkiest bass rifts ever which is why they were #1 hits Rollercoaster has a helluva rift also Funky worm was another #1 hit I wasn't talkin about who was the best... you're the only bass player that woulda asked me to name "one hit" The Ohio Players made smh.. I'm 59 you clearly are way younger and not a student,EWF,The Ohio Players and Isleys Brothers preceeded those three bands they're early 70s Confunkshun broke out in summer 77 with Ffun, Lakeside summer'78 with Raid Cameo summer '79 with I just want to be... by then Ohio Players were on their way out with #1 and top 20 hits...Lakeside and Confunkshun have one Cameo has zero #1 hits yet you ask for one top song 🤡You're a bassists lemme hear some of your stuff I heard you doing other people's stuff let me hear yours since you disrespected Marshall Jones and the Ohio Players. Btw I was talking about bands that made great songs not bass rifts not just funk because LG, Bootsy, Marcus, James J. Verdeen, Louis Johnson Stanley Clarke, Marvin Isley are at the top but I'll put my fav against Cedric and anyone else and that's Bernard Edwards and yes he is one of the greats I can't believe you bro then you said you're a bassists like that gives your opinion weight...Btw I like Ced Aaron and The dude from Lake but I dare not talk greasy about any of them and I have seen good bass players in my lifetime but those guys are the best of the best "to me"

70s and 80s music is unrivaled…….PERIOD. This creativity was uncharted and nothing has surpassed this since. Hip hop has proven to be a diversion the from the long historical path and African continuity of creativity/music. Although, hip hop is a form of expression, which make it an art form, it pales in comparison to earlier Black art forms as it failed to continue the natural evolution of Black Creativity by relying on untalented 4th grade level poetry instead of raw talent as exhibited in this video. The success of hip hop is due to its appeal to the lower nature of the black community as it basically relies on ‘beats’ instead of melodies and simple rhythms.

This was on Don Kirshners Rock Concert to promote the “Secret Omen” album and I think some are confused because Wayne Cooper is there, his hair is just shorter. He had the big fro during the Cameosis release before he died. But that is Wayne with shorter hair and the stache hitting those notes standing upfront next to Tomi Jenkins and Nathan Leftnant.

Rich G you are TOTALLY wrong my friend. Wayne Cooper died earlier that year and the new lead singer is Stephen Moore!

@@RizzioProductions you are both incorrect, Wayne Cooper is not there but did not pass until 1983. The cat singing his parts is named Stephen Moore and he did an admirable job in my opinion.
