Got up from my bed feeling very poorly; found you by accident and immediately was so engrossed in your tale that all my pain was forgotten. I love all this local folklore and your voice is so mellifluous! I remember the “Hexham Heads “ very well. It happened to occur in a house near where I lived and every day we used to run the gauntlet past that house. No, it wasn’t a sprawling old ruin but a very ordinary council house in the middle of an estate and rumours had it that the family concerned were only after a bigger council house as they, being a Catholic family, like ourselves, had an enormous family who attended St Mary’s Roman Catholic School as did our family!!! Who knows? At the time however, at the age of 15, I didn’t like to take my chances after seeing the photograph in our local newspaper, the Hexham Courant! 🫣🫣🫣

There must be slightly differing versions of the story, because the version I know places the house on Alexandra Terrace around the corner from the QE High School.

Sadly, it's almost always a stray dog or dogs.Thats why when I kept sheep, I also had a big fiercely horned Nubian billy goat and a few nannies. Billies are very territorial. There may have been a wolf, but most of it is probably down to dogs and rumors.

This is fabulous! I can't believe I came across this. I had seen a few of your previous videos but wasn't subscribed before today. Allendale is where my Chatt family (my mother's maiden name) originated. They left the area and migrated to Indiana and then onto Illinois here in the US in the 1840s. I know that the old homestead is still there and I keep a photo of it near my bed that was from my grandfather's book on Chatt history. It was simply wonderful to see this. It evoked something in me very deep and very moving. To see the countryside of our old homeland there and note how very much it looks like mid and southern Indiana terrain my ancestors moved to here, it was moving indeed. Blessings in all things.

Here on Delmarva in Maryland we are a former British colony with 200 plus years of history so all the swamps and existing plantations and even the Indian burial grounds which our British ancestors defiled so we have so many urban legends which I experienced me and my father of man who died in the 1960s trying to divert a river so I love Ole British folklore because it's similar to our own British colony history.

Wolves work in packs, being brought up & still residing in the rural Scottish Borders, one lone wolf could kill a sheep with ease, however, it could not kill an adult horse, which would've easily outran it. Perhaps the horse was still a foal or very old & ailing. Another great story Jolly Reiver & well received by one whose ancestry is a who's who of Border Reivers !

I have a collie/ German pointer and a wolf/husky mix. Maggie is about 58 lbs. And Tala is about 84 lbs. They don't have to be huge to take down game. They work together and run deer down and eat them. I find deer parts in the yard all the time. So yes, it could happen.
@carolynwatson4301 Жыл бұрын
Just a note, Maggie can jump our fence. The fence is 5 foot. She does it daily. And lastly I feed my dogs a lot daily. So they hunt for the chase. So could the wolf do all the things it was accused of? YES! I live in Southwest Arkansas. I have seen coyotes do many of the same things. A man in our community raised wolves to be exotic pets. Jezebel used to escape all the time. She was a beautiful solid black wolf. I would call him and tell him his wolf was out.

I propose you actually bring back wolves to UK. I’m being silly of course it would mean all of UK would have to change. I love the fact that here in Western Canada where I live we have two packs of wolves and guess what? They don’t like cattle and don’t kill our stalk and we want and need more wolves. Our deer population has gone over the limits and the deer now are dying due to various means. We need the wolf
