@@NerdyNightly The interplay on "Lord of the Morning" being one of the names of Lucifer Morningstar with Dark One and Creator present as well, provides some fairly interesting theological musing on the part of Robert Jordan; those books are reasonably deep, and written by a very well educated man! Enjoy, there is much more to come :) Also more details on the losses and wolves will be given in the beginning of the next book.

Robert Jordan served as a helicopter gunner during Vietnam. That made me wonder if the "meat grinder" description had any basis on his own personal experiences, considering the Asha'mans attack was so gruesome that hardened veteran soldiers threw up and/or couldn't watch it.

I guess it stands to reason *some* people wouldn't like Michael and Kate for some reason or another, but most people adore them and the job they did reading the series. I have been hesitant to give Pike's reading a try because I like Michael and Kate's so much. I always thought this chapter probably drew on a lot of the horrifying and chilling experiences that RJ must have had as a machine gunner in Vietnam. If you didn't know, this is RJ replying to a question on the Dragonmount forums (I have to add a disclaimer that this is truly disturbing content): "For Paracelsus, I had two nicknames in 'Nam. First up was Ganesha, after the Hindu god called the Remover of Obstacles. He's the one with the elephant head. That one stuck with me, but I gained another that I didn't like so much. The Iceman. One day, we had what the Aussies called a bit of a brass-up. Just our ship alone, but we caught an NVA battalion crossing a river, and wonder of wonders, we got permission to fire before they finished. The gunner had a round explode in the chamber, jamming his 60, and the fool had left his barrel bag, with spares, back in the revetment. So while he was frantically rummaging under my seat for my barrel bag, it was over to me, young and crazy, standing on the skid, singing something by the Stones at the of my lungs with the mike keyed so the others could listen in, and Lord, Lord, I rode that 60. 3000 rounds, an empty ammo box, and a smoking barrel that I had burned out because I didn't want to take the time to change. We got ordered out right after I went dry, so the artillery could open up, and of course, the arty took credit for every body recovered, but we could count how many bodies were floating in the river when we pulled out. The next day in the orderly room an officer with a literary bent announced my entrance with "Behold, the Iceman cometh." For those of you unfamiliar with Eugene O'Neil, the Iceman was Death. I hated that name, but I couldn't shake it. And, to tell you the truth, by that time maybe it fit. I have, or used to have, a photo of a young man sitting on a log eating C-rations with a pair of chopsticks. There are three dead NVA laid out in a line just beside him. He didn't kill them. He didn't chose to sit there because of the bodies. It was just the most convenient place to sit. The bodies don't bother him. He doesn't care. They're just part of the landscape. The young man is glancing at the camera, and you know in one look that you aren't going to take this guy home to meet your parents. Back in the world, you wouldn't want him in your neighborhood, because he is cold, cold, cold. I strangled that SOB, drove a stake through his heart, and buried him face down under a crossroad outside Saigon before coming home, because I knew that guy wasn't made to survive in a civilian environment. I think he's gone. All of him. I hope so. I much prefer being remembered as Ganesha, the Remover of Obstacles." Truly sober and terrifying stuff.

Rand's aversion to killing women was also a thing from his Vietnam thing. He was facing a VietCong gunner, and after he killed the gunner, he realized it was a woman, and that just traumatized him as well. He made an active point to avoid killing women combatants after that as well

I've always thought this series was really about Jordan dealing with his experience in Vietnam being reflected through Rand. It makes even more sense when we found out that Jordan's original plan for the story was for an older war hero (basically Tam) to have to deal with being called to save the world.

One (of the many) thing I find amazing about Jordan is how he wrote battle. His typical prose is intricately detailed, sometimes overly so, taking a lot of time to describe scenery, clothes, etc. His writing of battle is much more concise, while not sacrificing detail. It is action oriented, and almost choppy and chaotic, but not in a bad way. It still varies depending on the POV, but the writing of the plot as a whole resembles the battle in how it flows.

Judging by the tone of your comment and you not replying to the other's that replied to your comment, I gather you don't hate the show. I am hoping that by the time they get to this the show will be in full stride. The budget will have increased, as well as making the most of said budget. From where it started, it is only going to get bigger and better (as long as you don't count deviation from the books too big of a sin). While I have some complaints about the show I did like it and am hopeful and excited to see it progress. I don't recall seeing that AMA or seeing anyone mention this question and his answer. I don't know what my answer would be if I had to pick a favorite scene.

@@dragginsnax2185 lol deviation is a sin. Like we're religious zealots nice strawman. They have "sinned" so much you have to call it a different turning of the wheel. The end of the show was Egwene Reborn it's supposed to be the Dragon Reborn. Now apply that to Lord of Chaos. How do you think Egwene will save the day here? You really think they will kill off Rosamund Pike? Me either. So now Moiraines at Dumais Wells probably instead of Taim. Have fun defending that. The prologue? Perrins family? Nobody likes book four right that's not integral to everyone's favorite book or anything. Just imagining anything they might do with Mat. They're gonna screw up book 3 Mat so bad. Saving the girls in Tear? That's a huge moment for every character involved. That's just the parts nerdy has made to that I can discuss without spoilers.

@@kenny5844 I can understand how and why some people hate the show. What I can't understand is not being able to comprehend other people have mixed feelings on it, and other people like it. Some people who hate the show do act like religious zealots, that is very apt. Why is it bad to consider it another turning of the wheel? I thought that was a beautiful thought from Sanderson. Some people, like yourself, wield that like a weapon. "It's so different from the books Sanderson calls it another turning of the wheel." Yet that is so true to lore, it doesn't bother me at all. These events have happened countless times, played out innumerable ways that are similar and different. The show was never going to be a perfect adaptation. The show being another turning of the wheel is very meta to me. Is it what I wanted? No. I wanted 24 episode seasons to allow for adequate time to put as much from the books on screen as possible. That could not happen in 2021 because that's not how TV is produced anymore. What we got is an 8 episode season, and I hate that they spent the budget on building intricate sets and building a new studio just for WoT instead of making the show a little cheaper but making it longer. But I didn't get what I wanted, so I'm trying to appreciate what we did get. And what we got has brought new fans to the series, and spurred more people to engage in the fandom. I find it sad you hate the show for things they haven't even done yet. And I get it. I understand the disappointment. I have spent time talking to fans who hate the show. There are things I'm disappointed about too. But I choose to try to foster a positive attitude. And fuck dude, the books are always better. These are my favorite books, the show could be a 10/10 and it still wouldn't match my love for the books. For me, the show is just bonus material. Ninety Million dollar bonus material for season 1. What if they do kill of Rosamund? If they did it first season they would have gotten accused of copying GoT. But what if they kill her off in Season 3? I can't argue about Egwene saving the day. I am baffled by their choices regarding gender in the show. It's like they took the imbalance in the books and turned it up to 11. During my current reread following along with Nerdy and Clarus I have become more disgruntled about the show for sure. I agree that a lot of Perrin's arc from book 4 seems like it won't work at all or at least be much less impactful. Still though, did you ever see the one season of the Dresden Files? It was a fun show, but didn't come close to living up to the books. Can you not separate the show from the books? Is there anything you like about the show?

Didn't I say books 4-6 are the "Empire Strikes Back" of this series? Haha glad you enjoyed it, this is one of the scariest "victories" that makes you question everyone's moral compass as well as just how insane Rand has become now, not to mention the shear horror of 100000+ dead in minutes regardless of which side they were on. This is exactly what the Dark One wanted. Welcome to the start of the third act!

Who dies? Any CHANCE of Rand cooperating with the Tower. Because they created DARTH RAND and Merged him with Lews. He entered a boy, blew up that chest as a Tank meets OP DPS. I love how amped he was about the battle starting! I have read this like 9 times and you somehow got me as pumped as when the book came out! I PRAY the show does not screw this up. Just do it as is!

Just finished watching your reaction vid, thank you for another wonderful upload! Beyond the Dumai's Wells chapter, what really got me hyped when I read this section was hearing about the Daughter of the Nine Moons as well as the appearance of the gholam, both of which were foreshadowed for a while. Poor Herid Fel though.... I also have to admit that even though the audiobook sounds fine, I highly prefer just reading the sections. There's something lost to me when you listen to something versus reading it yourself since with the latter you can really let your eyes and thoughts just think or marinate on a certain sentence or passage the way that's impossible when listening. I come up with all sorts of thoughts, theories, and ideas when I read at my own pace because I can reread especially interesting or powerful sentences and passages before moving on. Audio is great when you're driving or doing some chores though

I totally get what you're saying, about listening vs reading. I grew up reading the books and didn't listen to the audiobooks until a few years ago. When I did, it was so novel (ha, what a pun!) that I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a new experience. The way Michael and Kate emphasize different things made it like sharing the books with two other people, hearing the way they interpreted things by how they read it. I also like listening to the audiobooks when I've smoked weed. I enjoy the story but find it difficult to focus on reading when stoned. I also sometimes listen to the audiobooks while reading the ebooks, although I have to carefully adjust the audiobook speed to match my reading speed. I find the combination more immersive than listening to the audiobooks alone.

Yeah, I like how it was edited, but would also have preferred an uncut reaction. I'm not sure how it would have worked if no audio of the books was included. Some people suggested on discord that they just do a countdown, then react without the audiobook sound in the video and people could listen to it on their end along with the video, but then if they paused to talk about stuff... Like I said, I do like the way they did this.

Really? That's surprising. I think Michael and Kate do a great job. I do listen to it at 1.4-1.6x speed, sometimes up to 2x, depending on how preoccupied I am. Have you ever listened to a graphic audio recording of a book? Those are really cool, they have background music and different voice actors for different characters. Sanderson's books have been done, as well as Light Bringer and a bunch of others.

I am dense! After 20+ reads, it took watching your reaction video to draw the parallel of Perrins charge into the fight (at the countdown part) is totally an homage to the ride of the Roherin from Return of the King. A helpless charge into the flank against overwelming odds just as it feels like all is lost...

Following this book club has been so fun. I started reading these in the 90's as well and don't even know how many times I've read the first few books, but following along with Nerdy and Clarus, they have seen things from a different point of view and I have seen the series anew as well. And discussing things in the discord and on youtube comments and in chat, it is a whole new way to experience WoT after all these years. They definitely point out things that never occurred to me, even after numerous rereads. Nerdy said "I wonder how much being a warder helped him take those beatings" and yeah, added to his Two Rivers stubbornness, having the physical resilience of a warder played a role here. Without it he may lost consciousness instead of being able to endure what he did. Being a warder may have made things *worse*, which I never thought about. There is so much intricacy to Jordan's storytelling. Following book club has forced me to read at a slower pace and break things down more.
