One extra detail I really like about the sequence of events leading up to Rand's capture is that the Aes Sedai have been purposely doing intensive channeling every day since their arrival in Cairhien. This meant nobody would question the intensive channeling required to maintain Rand's shield. I love how RJ thinks of these plot holes and finds a way to close them. The battle itself is definitely one of my favourite moments in the series.

@jamesr1234 жыл бұрын
The problem with adapting such a scene is the budgetary constraints. Rendering this battle accurately, despite its relatively small scale compared to some others, would probably use up the vast majority of the show's budget for the season it airs. Or it will look cheap, which is its own problem.
@MoDa874 жыл бұрын
Andy James I hope Rafe made Amazon aware of the amount of CGI required later on in the books.
@TheHippyProductions4 жыл бұрын
I think the issue is making it live-action to begin with. This isnt Lord of the Rings you cant just have a journey in some beautiful locations and occasional grand sets and battles. There are entire nations at work in Wheel of Time, and the scale is too massive to do properly IRL. Not to mention Amazon will probably force feed some political agenda or some garbage instead of focusing on the source material. It needs to be animated, plain and simple.
@jusatin4 жыл бұрын
The bigger problem will be that if these battles are done correctly, the show will be hard M/A. If they don’t show people getting ripped to pieces, absolutely destroyed to atoms with guts and blood flowing and no way of hiding or making it stop, it doesn’t really give a sense of why the Shaido ran. That kind of helplessness and brutality is not often seen in any major TV adaptations, since it turns off viewers. It’s a lot different to see it happen to “real” humans, than to just read about it.
@snarfmcgillicutty26164 жыл бұрын
@@jusatin You have a point, but I'm hoping Amazon will make this mature. I think we have a good chance of that considering we have been told there will be nudity and probably sex. We have a chance they will do the battles some justice. Granted, what you say is valid and concerning. Hopefully the budget will remain high and grow as needed.

This is one of my favorite battles within the wheel of Time for all the reasons that you mentioned and more. I can't really add more to that but it was very satisfying to see the power of the Asha'man as well as seeing so many of the Aes Sedai I being humbled. For too long the Aes sedai had sat at the top of the pecking order. Their arrogance was insufferable it was time for them to know fear. If the Asha'man had wanted to that they could have destroyed the entire White tower by simply traveling there and collapsing it in an earthquake. They are very lucky Rand was sane enough not to make a counter attack to exterminate every Ais Sedai in the White tower.

@@greenzorse There are a few departures from book descriptions, but those have been mostly within reason. Also, you haven't paid enough attention to details in the books. Neither did I, even after over a dozen reads of the series. I have been surprised by the details pointed out since and have verified them in subsequent readings (listenings, mostly). Do you recall that Cenn Buie was described as "dark as an old root?" I don't think they're talking freshly sawed pine there. That's only one of many I missed. See Daniel's video where he and Matt from The Dusty Wheel address the racial concerns. It's no B.S. and a real eye opener with great perspective and details many didn't catch. Further, I will trade having actors in roles who don't fit my ideas of canon if they were the best possible fit for those characters otherwise. I'd rather have it done right than end up with another Shannara mess with very attractive people but a poorly done series.

Thank you so much for this Daniel. I’m preparing to write my first ever battle scene, and Dumai’s wells has been such a great research. This analysis only expands on that.

I just finished Lord of Chaos for the first time a few minutes ago. I knew it before, but now it’s confirmed: these stories are going to be a part of my life forever. This is the best video you’ve made yet. More battle analysis please!

That was a really helpful video, there's so much going on in this sequence, that I get lost (despite having read it multiple times). This breakdown was really good. More, please!

That was a GREAT synopsis. You reminded me why this is one of my favorite scenes of the whole series. Ready to sit down and read it again.

This may be the video that gets me to reread the entire 14 book epic.

Sick recap! Just read the battle last night and wanted to relive it. This was perfect. You should do the battle at the end of Fires of Heaven. I honestly got a little lost during it, so much going on.

He did fight some battles and skirmishes on Almoth Plain. His defense of Maradon was totally awesome though.

I loved this battle... the neat grinder and Rand's fury. Not crazy about the little spider clip, chess pieces, and other things that brought me out of the fantasy genre battle I had playing in my mind.

There are a few errors, only a couple really stood out to me but do like the video with giving visual representation. Took out my book to make sure I had exact quotes but have read series so many times that had already known these but wanted to provide exact evidentiary support. He was not kept inside the box "He had been allowed out once they were away from Cairhien, but Galina suspected Erian was going to want him to make the rest of the journey inside that box." after he had seen Min there at which point he got violent and killed the "2" Warders not just 1 and both belonged to Erian which is how the beatings started. "He had certainly raged enough seeing her punished for her outburst last night, which had in turn come from seeing him punished. The entire incident had begun because al'Thor discovered Min was in the camp, after one of the Warders carelessly allowed her to walk in the darkness instead of keeping her closely confined in her tent. Who would have thought that al'Thor, shielded and surrounded, would have gone mad that way? Not just trying to break through the shield, but killing a Warder with his bare hands and severely wounding another with the dead man's sword, to such an extent that the second died in the Healing." Otherwise directly following comes "For herself, Galina would have gathered the other Red sisters and gentled al'Thor days ago. Since that was prohibited, she would just as soon have delivered him to the Tower unmarked, so long as he was reasonably polite." Also said Rhuarc brought all the Aiel from Cairhien which is really wrong because had received word Shaido moving in force toward Cairhien. That force he spoke of is what was at Dumai's Wells. "Finally he straightened to his full height. "I can take only Maidens and siswai'aman." By his tone and his smell, he would rather lose an arm than speak those words. "Too many of the others will not dance the spears with Aes Sedai."" also not mentioned is that all the Wise One's who could channel that were with Rhuarc at Cairhien also came along to fight and also were unconstrained by the 3 Oaths although not trained as weapons as Asha'man were.

I'd forgotten what the name referred to and was searching for it even as the video started playingd. Thanks for the reminder. It brings me great joy, peace and maybe homicidal madness, but that's a small price to pay for remembrance of this event that impacted me so deeply that for years I would have nightmares of "the box ". I understand this psychology better and better every year as the Black Cube constricts upon me. Dear spies: I know you. It is judgment day and I'm drunk and if the sculpture is ugly, Krishna will reforge the metal without attachment to form 💔 😢 ⬆️😁

Taim commanding the Asha'man like a general was terrifying, knowing how ruthless he is and what an army of male channelers means in context. Plus "Asha'man, kill". Man was that book amazing or what.
