Even if Jacoby Brissett throws Jaylen Waddle an accurate pass, the latter might still get tackled in the end zone anyway. The Dolphins' offensive coordinator can't call that play in that part of the field, especially without blocking in front of Waddle. I wouldn't recommend calling that play from where the Fins' offense was even with someone built like Derrick Henry.

The pass by Jacoby Brissett also led to the safety. He threw it right to Waddle, but forced him to leap for it. So Waddle had to leap for the pass, gather it in, then turn 90 degrees upfield before even being able to think about getting out of the end zone. If Brissett was able to lead Waddle downfield a little that at least would’ve avoided the safety.

This wasn't technically a screen pass. What defines a screen pass is the screen of blockers set up to help the receiver, who catches the pass behind the screen of usually linemen. More accurately, this play was a flare pass.
@GR-bn3xj3 жыл бұрын
Technically I think it was. The line of scrimmage was the one yard line. He caught it behind the line of scrimmage. I get what you are saying bc it looks like a mini flare, but I think it can be considered a screen. In college it's referred to as a slip screen or WR screen.

Good video, but that is not the worst screen pass ever. That has to go to a game played on January 22, 1984. Nobody thought Miami would win that game. The Redskins did it in a frigging Super Bowl, and the play pretty much ended the game right there. Shocked that was the first time in NFL history but back in Jan 1984 if Rookie CB hit Rookie Roger Craig high instead of low it may have possibly have happened in an NFC Championship game. As a Redskins fan I was happy with Darrell Greens tackle on Roger Craig because he was tackled but was able to fall forward to get the ball out of the end zone. Green could have hit him high and missed the tackle, Craig was a bigger guy and was good at shedding hits from smaller guys but he was also off balance due to making a catch. In the pass I am talking about it was a dump off pass not a screen. But the following Game for the Redskins there would be another infamous screen pass that made Jack Squirek famous for at least one night.
