Even if Jacoby Brissett throws Jaylen Waddle an accurate pass, the latter might still get tackled in the end zone anyway. The Dolphins' offensive coordinator can't call that play in that part of the field, especially without blocking in front of Waddle. I wouldn't recommend calling that play from where the Fins' offense was even with someone built like Derrick Henry.

I like Brian Flores and think he is, and will continue to be, a very good coach. But when you call a play that ends up as an NFL "first time ever" resulting in a safety, that's obviously not the best of your highlight moments. Great video, as always.

Im not up on who makes decisions in Miami, but think about this- they stuck with Tua in 2021 KNOWING they'll have to play future MVP Josh Allen in their division every year for next decade. Thats an embarassing decision and if Flores had any part in that decision he should be let go. Why even draft him that high to begin with? Miami is so dumb. Go Bills!

The pass by Jacoby Brissett also led to the safety. He threw it right to Waddle, but forced him to leap for it. So Waddle had to leap for the pass, gather it in, then turn 90 degrees upfield before even being able to think about getting out of the end zone. If Brissett was able to lead Waddle downfield a little that at least would’ve avoided the safety.

I'm a Browns fan, but this was the 4 o'clock game viewing in my area. Watching that play live, I couldn't believe they called that play. The QB sneak always makes the most sense in that field position. The only pass that would make sense in that scenario is something like a 3 step drop quick slant...and even that is a risky play. The fact they chose to throw a wr screen pass with their 2nd string QB is mind boggling.

As a Raiders fan, this play was so doomed that I didn't even have enough time to expect the Raiders to somehow screw it up. It was like, "Oh, the Dolphins are throwing it there, holy shit, there's Casey Hayward," in all of like 1 second. Lol. Even if Waddle was able to make a play and escape Hayward, there is a decent chance it still ends up in a safety with other defenders crashing hard on the play. Doomed, doomed, doomed.

Kind of surprised you didn’t use the Giants again after this last Sunday. Specifically; 3rd & 3 at opp 39 down by 1 in the 3rd qt- throw deep for an incompletion but there was holding on the offense, penalty was declined to bring up 4th & 3 (again, at the opponent’s 39) & NY decides to PUNT the ball instead of going for it or attempting a kick with a solid kicker (Gano). Gutless.

I don't know what Flores was thinking, or if he was thinking but maybe he felt that since the 82 yard pick six looked so easy/uncontested into the end zone that the field would magically open up for Waddle, forgetting that he would have to beat real defenders, guys paid to tackle, Waddle wasn't gonna have to beat 300-pound Offensive lineman, WR's, RB's and a QB to get downfield.

Technically I think it was. The line of scrimmage was the one yard line. He caught it behind the line of scrimmage. I get what you are saying bc it looks like a mini flare, but I think it can be considered a screen. In college it's referred to as a slip screen or WR screen.

Good video, but that is not the worst screen pass ever. That has to go to a game played on January 22, 1984. It was called Super Bowl XVIII and the play was run by the Redskins and is called Rocket Screen. Sure Miami lost to Las Vegas 31-29 in week four, but come on. Nobody thought Miami would win that game. The Redskins did it in a frigging Super Bowl, and the play pretty much ended the game right there. And how ironic is it that both games involved the Raiders, and a coach with the last name of Flores. 🤷‍♂️

Where's the screen pass?? The worst safety by the offense was when the Detroit Lions (during their winless season) were on their one against The Minnesota Vikings. The QB for the Lions took the snap under center. QB ran back of the end zone (clearly out of bounds) by a few yards looking for an open man to throw to. Clearly showing why the Lions went winless that season.

Shocked that was the first time in NFL history but back in Jan 1984 if Rookie CB hit Rookie Roger Craig high instead of low it may have possibly have happened in an NFC Championship game. As a Redskins fan I was happy with Darrell Greens tackle on Roger Craig because he was tackled but was able to fall forward to get the ball out of the end zone. Green could have hit him high and missed the tackle, Craig was a bigger guy and was good at shedding hits from smaller guys but he was also off balance due to making a catch. In the pass I am talking about it was a dump off pass not a screen. But the following Game for the Redskins there would be another infamous screen pass that made Jack Squirek famous for at least one night.

Waddle was a decoy. That was a swing pass, you say it yourself ,they had NO blockers, that was designed to go to a slant across the middle.

JG9 says that Dumb Decisions aren't decisions that only look bad in hindsight. Nobody thought that Tua over Herbert was dumb at the time.

Edit: this dude already did a whole video about it my apologies Original comment: Considering you’re an NFL history buff and the Raiders are even featured in this video, you should know that the worst screen pass in NFL history is the Redskins’ “rocket screen” that they ran 5 or 6 times against the LA Raiders in the 1983 Super Bowl, finally just before halftime with the Redskins already trailing, they went back to the screen one too many times it was picked off for an easy TD by Jack Squirek

Do not call passes like that against the Raiders. Just ask Joe Theismann. :) Why do you keep calling this a screen pass? A "screen pass with no blockers" is not a screen pass. It's just a pass in the flat.

the problem I have with the name of this video is that isn't even a screen pass. For it to be a screen pass, there has to be a blocker in front. There was none, assuming that the receivers played the rout the way they were told to.

That looks more like a swing pass vs a screen pass but it was definitely poorly planned.

the Dolphins have Co-Offensive Coordinators, so I bet there was confusion as to who was calling the plays.

If Brisstte spiked the ball the whole time in the end zone..... that would not be wierder then throwing it to waddle.

Watching the video of this and Stagger Lee side by side, there’s a very obvious difference. Rozier had three blockers in front of him, Wadle had zero
