Not at the pro level, not at the college level, not at the high school level, not at the youth level, and not at the kids level. I've never even seen it work in practice. Seriously, what happened there was about the least bad thing that could have. At least they didn't lose anything. A lot of time the result is either a turnover or your QB gets killed.

@tylerlarsen18422 ай бұрын
The Colts fake punt wasn't even supposed to be snapped, it was meant to try and draw the Patriots defense offsides, but the long snapper decided to snap the ball for no reason. The Giants two-point attempt is worse because of the fact that it was meant to be snapped, it was designed to possibly score points.

Idk, i also think the hail mary in the bears game should be competing in the dumb decision. Because you have the bears do multiple dumb thinks. Taunting as bears fans point at play . Rushers not really rushing, one looked like he was in spy which he really should full on rushed in. 4 bears players leaping for ball when 2 should be boxing the receiver for tip ball drill. The bear player taunting tips ball for commanders win. Heaetbreak. It had all the emotions

When I saw this play, my first reaction was "Why are they going for two"? Going for two in that situation didn't make much sense at that time in the game.
@bradenculver74573 ай бұрын
15-23, they score two it’s 17-23, which means a stop and another touchdown gets you the lead with an extra point. Or two field goals ties it. If you miss the two points, you can go for another if you score the necessary touchdown and tie the game. It’s not the dumbest going for two in the fourth, you’re going to have to take it at one point unless the giants defense does the miraculous.

That whole play was the personification of "I'm sorry, WHAT????" The only thing that would have been funnier is if Highsmith had picked off the screen pass and ran it back for a pick six. Recent examples being Fangio, Saleh, any guy who was ever a coordinator for the Patriots (argument can be made that Belichick made the job easy enough for a monkey to do it). We'll see what happens with Mike McDaniel in Miami. Sure, the injury to Tua shoots that team in the foot but MAN, what a regression based on ONE injury!

Every so often someone tries this in the NFL. The idea of trading QB protection for numbers seems good....but has yet to really work, because defenses can do what Pittsburgh is trying here and just adjust on the fly. Meanwhile, the unorthodox position of the linemen means it's going to take time. I'm all for trying different things, but this has a nice practical flaw. You want to make this play work? Run it out of a four wide set, empty backfield. Put four receivers to the short side, and use tight ends and fullbacks, or even a lineman reporting eligible, as the non-catching ones on that side. The other side has nothing but a single tight end. You can break the huddle, get into this formation, and snap it right away. Make the quick screen pass before the defense has time to adjust, and no one is wondering if the formation is legal.

Yeah, I assumed Jones snapped fast because he saw the Steelers weren’t ready and didn’t realize his own guys were even less ready. It was a bad play executed poorly. As for two-point analytics, I think it’s based on a form of survivorship bias: Teams that go for two do so when they have an advantage, ie, they’re better at getting them than the other team is at stopping them. But not all teams are the same. You can’t use numbers from what the Chiefs do against a bad defense when you’re the Giants playing a good defense.
