Hell was my very first heretical position. I didn’t find it at all in the Old Testament, and Jews have NO concept of hell even to this day. I found it completely horrific, and completely unjust and tossed it out. I tossed out a whole lot more before I realized it was ALL nonsense. If one throws out the bad and the nonsensical, there isn’t very much left.

@@jjphank You've made a lot of assumptions in that one comment. On the note of "what happened to make you lose your faith" I personally don't know Holy Kool-Aid's story but mine was not from a singular event but more so a slow and steady drift away as I held the values of truth and honesty utmost from my Christian upbringing (not the only way to hold those values) and continued seeking truth honestly regardless of where it lead. Turns out evidence is the most reliable thing to base your views on and if you're entirely honest with yourself it leads to agnosticism which realistically is the view of all Christians (insert any other religion here) too only for they use the word 'know' incorrectly a lot.

Similar here in the UK. I am a struggling Christian in a crisis of faith, or perhaps I’m not at all now, certainly, I think a lot of American Christians seem to be a lot more extreme though. There seems to be more hate preached by Christians there. Strangely I converted to Christianity about 2 to 3 years ago but I have been learning about the history of it all and I have realised there are a lot of inerrancies in the bible and tons of different versions. Also there are unethical charlatan faith healers in America who use stooges and mind tricks to ‘heal’ people and loads of desperate and vulnerable people end up losing their lives and money because of it.

I think that part of the problem here in the US is, perhaps counterintuitively, that we dont have any state sanctioned church as many other nations do. Our officially secular government, which does not officially endorse any religious group, has created a sort of free-market approach to religion. Religious sects have learned that in order to compete for parishioners they need to be increasingly extreme, which seems to be why each new religious group/movement is a bit nuttier than the last one.

@sledgehammer301
@sledgehammer301 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheMountainMan-wz8xf It is not valid. Marriage is stupid and many a man or woman have shipwrecked their lives in following the cultural requirement/expectation to get married. Marriage was perpetrated by religious corporations controlled by wealthy men who needed some 'legitimate' way to have their vast wealth and amassed possession (usually from theft from native peoples or exploitation of poor people) to live on in perpetuity, via inheritances and not go to some bastard child. Women needed protection and support, because women were 3rd rate not even citizens, who could not owe property, vote, be educated, were not free to move as they pleased or anything else, due to the very low view of women in those times. They HAD to get married just to survive. Marriage, helped the churches grow and solidify their power. Marriage created the family unit, and the married couple, being bound together, were expected to have lots of kids. As a unit, the family would go to church with the kids to ensure that the churches would never be short of stock to stoke the fires of their power and wealth.

In my case, I honestly was never a true Christian. I was dragged to church every Sunday as a child, but I never thought I was supposed to take any of it seriously. I stopped going to church the moment I was given the option to, and it wasn't so I could go out and sin. When people say I just wanted to sin, I ask them "Which sin?" and they never have a good answer.

@@cowsmuggler1646 Let's go over everything and why this comment isn't a good answer to my question at all: Good rules like "Slaughter everyone, including the nursing babies and the women" right? You have read the Bible, right? A lot of the Lord's commands are mass slaughter. Cheat and lie? At what? To who? I work very hard, especially on Sundays. Working on the Sabbath; maybe I am evil incarnate! Taking advantage of the weak, what does that even mean? I've given to charity and helped people before without asking for anything in return. Didn't need any god telling me to do that. Who am I fighting to protect the land from? I'm not in the army; that's their job! Also, not killing people in self defense is evil? The real reason I don't like the Bible is that it is a poorly written fairy tale created by men to control other people. Did you know priests aren't allowed to go to war according to the Bible? I bet they wrote that in just to cover their own asses.

A few minutes after he actually passed, I picked up the hymnal on the piano & started singing "The Old Rugged Cross", which was his favorite hymn, & I sang it again at his funeral. Same situation for me: this is real & important to them, so I will honor that for them. But this has nothing to do with me. Just like with atheists who were once Christians, and atheists that were born and raised atheists; it works the same with Christians... It's not that a bunch of Christians have a deep seeded desire to rape and murder, it's just a lack of understanding the atheist perspective. I've been an atheist/agnostic most of my life, and only somewhat recently converted to Christianity, so it DOES give me a much better understanding of the atheist's perspective. But now being a Christian, I can see the their side too, and yeah, it's just a lack of understanding. The Christians that say what you're talking about, are the Christians that born and raised in Christian homes, and never left the faith. They simply don't understand what it's like to be atheist. It's such a HUGE shift in perspective of life, that I'm just not surprised that there's big misunderstanding on both sides, ESPECIALLY amongst the people that have never changed from religious to atheist or vise versa.

The religions of Abraham were made by straight men for straight men. I’m not a straight man, nor a man in general, why should I follow a religion that was used to justify hatred of my sex? Why would I follow a religion that was forced on my ancestors with murder and war? For religions that loves to follow the Ten Commandments none of them know how to follow them. If the only reason that you're a good person is because of a fear of some sort of eternal damnation, that is extremely unsettling. So you're essentially saying that you would gladly engage in immoral and depraved acts but, don't because of fear of divine punishment. You should be a good person regardless of your religion.

You might want to read the book "godless" by Dan Barker, who was a fundamentalist christian minister for 17 years. I, too, was a fundamentalist christian, who attended christian schools my whole life and christian college as well, and went on a mission to Central America. I was a true believer, but finally after reading and studying the bible for so long, it became perfectly clear to me that it was absolutely, totally false, and nonsense. Accepting that christianity was not true was REALLY HARD -- but you have to grow up. I used to wake up in the morning and go to my first job after (christian) college thinking "I don't know HOW to be a non-christian." You might also want to read Dr. Bart Ehrman's book "How Jesus Became God". Dr. Ehrman was a super fundamentalist who went to Moody Bible Institute and then to Wheaton College and finally to Princeton Theological Seminary, where he got his Ph.D.. The more he learned about the bible the more it became clear to HIM that it was not true. Now that I'm free of the virus of religion, I'm so much happier. But it took awhile to make the transition.

Without saying which one of us is right or wrong in this discussion, I will say this. I do not begrudge anyone from having their religion. I'm not one of those atheists who say all religion needs to go away. If your Christian beliefs make you happy, that's great. I'm glad that you find joy in being a Christian, and I'm not going to try to stop you or change your beliefs. If things doesn't work out at least you both know and gave it a shot. For Christian they rush into marriage and become unhappy once they found out they aren't compatible with each other divorcing is frown upon in that culture. There are many horror stories on how some kids grew up in a Christian family seeing their parents dislike each other for 30 years. One theory states that natural forces over time eventually eroded that beach exactly perfectly for the sand to form an image that happens to appear as a castle. The other theory states that someone that we can't see, don't know, and can't ever prove came along and made the castle. Case one is evolution, case two is design. So as I stated, nobody is arguing that humans evolved from dust. There is no discussion because you used a fallacy (no true Scotsmen), I reply with the 'child indoctrination' point and then you proceed with avoiding any points I've made and go for ad hominem attacks. As for question about where I live, it is a country where people from a lot of different countries live, the locals aren't necessarily religious but there are people who follow religion closely because that how they grew up. They are also very reactive and vocal about it. Hence why I'm curious about reactions in general since child indoctrination is similar to a religious upbringing and would bring a good discussion and reaction. @Rib_Guy_101 Now this is a discussion. And there's a inside joke about the clapping thing, people say improbable or fake things on reddit (you'd see it mostly about Karens), and we say "and everyone clapped" to say it was a fake. If you found religion on your own path, I find that more appropriate and respectable than people who grew up in it with a religious community.' My parents are roman catholic, while they both practice they make me and my siblings practice as well. Religious schools, sunday school and mass. I don't know my brothers real thoughts on religion but my sister she believes. And the way they treat the whole subject I can't have an honest conversation about it and the few times I mention it my mother gives a lot of back lash. I live in another country so they can't really force me to practice and I haven't told them I'm agnostic. And I don't think I will until I'm comfortable with it because the last thing my mom told me was "you're going to hell, bye". It just turns my stomach when people say things like that, because I live my life as honest and kind as possible. "The process of teaching a person or group to accept a set of beliefs uncritically" is what dictionary definitions say, the ' accept beliefs uncritically' is what makes a key difference, because teaching morals, opinions, cultures, ethics is fine because you're going to ask questions and poke holes into them. Religion depending on where you live and who's in your community, questioning that can get you some very different scenarios some ostracized, shunned and in extreme cases killed. They can't question things without consequences and sometimes they don't want to, nothing wrong with that but it does make me sad and angry that they don't have that freedom

I'm 75 years old. My deconversion from evangelical Christianity took about 30 years. I asked Jesus into my heart at age 7, was raised in an evangelical home, attended bible school, picked up hitchhikers in the 70s and 80s, and witnessed and gave out the 4 spiritual laws wherever I could. When I could no longer believe in god I cautiously mentioned to a long-time Christian friend that I no longer believed in god, his only remark was "You just think you Don't." What amazes me is that no evangelical friend or family has ever asked me 'why?'. I'm glad I'm out. Better late than never.

Peter, after my many decades of being a true believer I can now declare that I am not and have no desire to go back to my former ways. The biblical promises of freedom, joy and contentment were fulfilled ironically when I left the faith. It is called faith because it is not knowledge. I have no desire to argue about one's beliefs But I do desire to see those I love come out of superstition and live life in reality. It is good to realize that the Gods, including the god of the Bible, the Quran, Bhagavad Gita and other holy books are the creation of man and not the other way around. I remember being little and going to church with my parents, I also went to a Protestant preschool. But little me would always think it was funny how the stories would go. Like the one with I think Moses talking to that firey bush. Little me was like “Oh my mans must have gotten dehydrated in the DESERT and is now hallucinating ‘god’ talking to him”. I also found it demeaning when they would try to get us to sing the songs like “my god is an awesome god” etc. When I got into middle school we’d moved states and my parents hadn’t found a church they liked, the closest one was a mega church which said “woman should be seen and not heard” which my mother did not appreciate. I think that is one of the times I’ve been proud to be her daughter because he apparently very publicly dressed down the pastor. But yeah by the time I was in middle school the scars of religion in my life reared their heads. Because guess what I’m a aroace demi-girl, which was not a great revelation if you were me and had internalized phobias against those particular groups. So that was a whole thing which led me to loathe christianity. Seeing how I treated myself and how other treated me afterwards due to its influence was an eye opener. I’m now getting ready for college and while I don’t claim to be an atheist (probably agnostic or something) I still feel uncomfy around religious gatherings. I recently went to a christening for my cousins daughter and the panic attack I had realizing I’d be going wether I liked it or not had me freaking out. I’ve now realized that I haven’t healed from what was done to me, and what I’ve seen done to others for the sake of “religious self righteousness”. All this to say that I’ve gotten the “well if you don’t believe in god why aren’t you murdering and raping people” or the “we only have morals because of religion”. Those are the kinds of conversations I’ve had stuck in a car with my dad unable to escape. I’ve found that I personally feel more safe around atheists and agnostics when it comes to my identity. It doesn’t help that the oldest and sweetest woman in my life (my granny) is an uber religious catholic. She knows I’m gay where the rest of her spawn don’t. I don’t want to break her 87 year old heart and tell her that I don’t believe in her god or anyone else’s. She still slips up when shes drunk or buzzed, “oh when you settle down with a husband” like O-O.

The one of these I've gotten the most is the "If you don't believe in God, what's stopping you from murdering and raping?", which terrifies me, because the implication behind that is that the person asking the question truly desires to murder and rape, but their belief that they will be punished by God is the only thing preventing them. What stops me from murdering and raping is a complete lack of desire to do so. Even the criminal justice system has no real impact on me, because the idea of a punishment for doing something I would never even contemplate doing is meaningless. The "You were never a true Christian" one for me is just confusing, because I'm not a reformed Christian. I've simply never believed in God because the entire concept never made sense to me. I went to church a few times as a child, but it always just seemed like fairy tales to me. "You weren't a true Christian" is DEFINITELY the most frustrating. It completely ignores the years of pain and tears that believers often go through in the slow process of de-conversion and attempts to invalidate you because your existence makes them uncomfortable. But there's one upside to it. If they're willing to actually have the conversation, and you can describe to them all the things you experienced as a Christian - The feeling of elation that you believed was the "Holy Spirit" touching you, moments like opening the Bible to a verse that seemed to speak directly to you, breaking down in tears because you were moved by a Christian song and thought you felt the presence of God - If they relate to any of these things, and they understand that you went through them and no longer believe, then they will be forced to face their discomfort and understand that it's possible to come through all of that and disbelieve. For some people, that might be their first step to recovery.
@jinclay4354
@jinclay4354 2 жыл бұрын
"breaking down in tears because you were moved by a Christian song and thought you felt the presence of God" Wait. So, when Christians say that they felt the presence of God, it's actually just a flux of feelings and ideas that they empathize with and make sense of? It's a genuine question. I was raised atheist, so I have no idea what it feels like to have a religion. It never occurred to me that those spiritual experiences they claim that they have are actually just different interpretations of my own emotional experiences. Every time I heard a Christian talk about their faith or their spiritual experiences, like "feeling the presence of God", I thought "I wonder what it feels like?". I never thought it was the same chemical process that I myself sometimes have in my brain. Like, I've just felt that feeling I call "epiphany" by reading your comment, and I've just realized that "epiphany" in my atheist sense and the feeling of "epiphany" in the religious sense are the same. You know, you might have just provided the breakthrough to communicate the pointlessness of Christian bigotry. I think in my case, the "you were never a real Christian" line would probably be true. I came from a religious family and was very involved in church when I was a child, but I always assumed everyone knew it wasn't true and were just sort of playing along. God felt like every other holiday icon, like the Easter Bunny or Santa. Like obviously they're not real but you're sort of supposed to pretend that they are. It blew my mind to find out people actually believed in God, especially considering how cruelly God is so often portrayed as being. Like it was just story after story of atrocities and murders with the lesson being, "see how great and powerful God is?" And he was loving too, apparently, but somehow examples of that always seemed to be a little thin in comparison to the cruelties. One thing that kind of stuck out to me was back in church when we were first told the story about the lady that God turned into a pillar of salt, the pastor's/teacher's take on it was, "isn't it amazing how he could do something like that in an instant?" and then we grew our own salt crystals to see how long it would take to happen naturally. Like, are we just going to ignore the fact that someone was forced from her home by a higher power beyond her understanding and when she took a last look back at the entirety of the only life she knew, she was murdered for it? Not to mention that the only reason the city was destroyed in the first place was because there weren't enough people bowing down to their would-be murderer. But yeah, salt crystals are cool, I guess?

According to the Bible Catholics go to heaven?! According to the Bible Catholics do _not_ go to heaven! They go to hell with the devil that deceived them. Catholicism is not Christianity. It's a satanic, Babylonian, pagan cult masquerading as a Christian church, the Whore of Babylon. Rev. 17:4-6. Furthermore, praying and doing other good works do not save people. This is something true Christians (Protestants) try so desperately hard to explain to Catholics but they don't listen. Salvation is by faith, not works. Doing good after bad doesn't work. It's like obeying the law after you've already broken it. The judge is not impressed. The justice system is not about doing more good than bad and hoping you've obeyed the law more than you've broken it so the judge has to give you the good verdict. Rather, the justice system is: guilty or not guilty. Everyone is guilty of sin, breaking God's holy Law, the Ten Commandments. Exodus 20:3-17. Only Jesus was not guilty. That's why we all need Jesus so He can *trade life's records with ours,* replacing our guilty with His _not guilty_ so we can prepare ourselves for judgment. In other words, He has to _give us the credit_ for His perfect life so we can stand perfect before God, spotless, blameless and guiltless when our name comes up for judgment. That way, we get to go to heaven at the end. Only perfect people get to go to heaven, and only Jesus was perfect. And all we have to do for Jesus to do the gospel for us-the Good News of Him trading life's records with ours-is *believe* and *repent.* Both. 1) *Believe* Jesus died on the cross for your sins and 2) *ask Him* to set you free from sin. Just *say those two things* to Him in a prayer and He'll trade life's records with yours _instantly._ It's easy! That's the gospel. That's how it works. There is no Plan B. Catholicism does not teach this. They teach that you have to jump through a whole series of hoops to be saved-go to Mass, do all the rituals and sacraments, go to confession, do your penance, pray the rosary, etc., and none of this pagan nonsense gets you to heaven. But it _will_ drag you to hell. 🔥 Catholics are completely deceived and lost. This pretend-Christian "church" of the Sacred Inquisition is one of Satan's greatest religious deceptions. The religion of the Antichrist (in the place of Christ).

As a Christian myself, I despise the fact that other Christians say that to former Christians. Of course, many Protestants believe in a doctrine, found neither in the Bible nor in historic Christianity, that states no one who is truly saved can lose their salvation. At the same time, they believe that if you're "truly saved" you'll demonstrate it by certain prescribed behaviors. If you stop demonstrating those behaviors, that puts them in a dilemma, so they have to explain it away somehow. The "you were never a true Christian to begin with" is their excuse. As a former Fundamentalist Baptist who is now an Eastern Orthodox Christian, I get told the same thing. I just roll my eyes at them.

@@tryingnottobeasmartass757 And the "once saved always saved" doctrine is a twisting of the Reformed doctrine of "perseverance of the saints", IOW, the legitimate saint proves their salvation by staying faithful until death. The doctrine you speak of (one I grew up with, btw) says quite the opposite: that once you are saved, God is obligated to keep you no matter what you do, and apostasy is impossible. You are correct in that such teaching is not Scriptural. To settle the cognitive dissonance, they point to 1 John 2:19 that says something to the effect of "they went out from us because they never were of us." However, that is not an accurate quote...not to mention it's pulled out of context. The verse in question speaks of false teachers (antichrists). Such teachers eventually parted ways with the believers because they held different views to begin with! It does not mean that any Christian who departs from the faith was NEVER a true Christian.

You have to understand why they say this and why it is a false teaching. There are a number of Christian religions that follow Calvinism. They believe once save always saved and you cannot lose your salvation, baptists and some others. So when they get someone like you, they have no other choice to say you were never a Christian because they believe you cannot lose your salvation or turn away. But the bible makes it clear in the parable of the seed and the sower. The seed that fell on rocky ground. Jesus explained this as these people accepted the word gladly but they only lasted a short time but when trouble and persecution came, they fell away, or it could have been the cares and desires of this life, or the other reasons in the parable. This describes you, you because you were Christian, you fell away and now are on the way to hell. Happens a lot because narrow is the path that leads to life and few find it.

Evolution is a process that results in changes in the genetic material of a population over time. Evolution reflects the adaptations of organisms to their changing environments and can result in altered genes, novel traits, and new species. Evolutionary processes depend on both changes in genetic variability and changes in allele frequencies over time. The study of evolution can be performed on different scales. Microevolution reflects changes in DNA sequences and allele frequencies within a species over time. These changes may be due to mutations, which can introduce new alleles into a population. In addition, new alleles can be introduced in a population by gene flow, which occurs during breeding between two populations that carry unique alleles. In contrast with microevolution, macroevolution reflects large-scale changes at the species level, which result from the accumulation of numerous small changes on the microevolutionary scale. An example of macroevolution is the evolution of a new species. One mechanism that drives evolution is natural selection, which is a process that increases the frequency of advantageous alleles in a population. Natural selection results in organisms that are more likely to survive and reproduce. Another driving force behind evolution is genetic drift, which describes random fluctuations in allele frequencies in a population. Eventually, genetic drift can cause a subpopulation to become genetically distinct from its original population. Indeed, over a long period of time, genetic drift and the accumulation of other genetic changes can result in speciation, which is the evolution of a new species.

@@HolyKoolaid To the point that you made about atheist not having a belief in God, therefore a person who has a belief in God wouldn't be an atheist ... As a self proclaiming atheist, why did you make a video about suppressing your *"belief"* in Hell, which necessarily requires a belief in God... 🤔? Also, Christians will never stop using the "you were never a Christian" argument because it comes right from the Bible... but of course you knew that already.

"You were never a true christian" 8) oh? So I suppose you follow the bible BY.THE.BOOK every single word and message as divine? Read every true ancient version to the most complete version we can find in it's original Greek language? So you're a true christian believing cursing children to death in the name of god for an insult is perfectly fine, that humiliating and stoning disobedient children to death is the right action and that slavery and rape is completely fine and acceptable cause Jesus said it was? If you don't fanatically and absolutely devote every Sunday and action to worshipping and following every single word of god as the absolute undeniable truth forever and ever to the same level as people in 500 and medieval times, then you're not a true christian.

Especially east Germany. Now, I live in the west near Cologne, but my parents are from the old GDR (German: DDR). And every time we are there for vacations, you just feel that the people think differently, they seem more calm and, in fact, sincere and many of them don't believe.

Bruh in America we have a Supreme Court case over weather or not a coach is allowed to pray by himself within public view. You would not believe the amount of anti Christian bias in American academics, I have considered going to college in Europe to avoid the bias here in America.

I've heard the argument "you'll start believing when you're at your worst" and I'm just shocked she didn't realize that's basically just a coping mechanism. I will not have my last speck of hope be religion, I refuse.

I also hate that bc I've been at my worst (well so far) and it didn't change anything. And it's annoys me that people use god as a coping mechanism instead of actually growing from the experience. It's like giving up. Idk how to explain.
