Because they still arrest and charge people, use up tax money and time, not theirs, it's their job, and then go on their way to do it again because no one does anything because "cops are such victims and heroes, they need even more funding and money" They know this, thats why they're so public about it, that's why they like and support people who say things like" I could kill someone in the middle of the street and they'd still like me!" Because that's their mentality, they want to be bullies, abusing their power. ...and you better like it or else! 😂 Fight back against that, and you're deemed an enemy. So be it. They can bring it, but history has shown us, fascists always lose.

my sister was staying temporarily at my house that i owned with my mom and got into a fight with her. my mom told her to leave and when she refused, she called the police. well, the police told us that they'd arrest all of us if we called them again, and also that they couldn't do anything about my sister trespassing despite not owning the property or being on the lease. growing up my brother routinely got into verbal and sometimes physical altercations with my (very disabled & mentally ill) mother, to the point where cops were called many times. Every fucking time, not only did they not do anything but they blamed my mom for not being able to control him or sometimes outright accused HER of abuse while taking my brother's side. ACAB

If there was even the slightest attempt to self reflect and hold themselves accountable they would have an unstoppable army of fence sitting normies defending them till their last dying day. Instead they just double down when they do someonething wrong and act increasingly more gang-like.

Just lie about anything that's not a recorded fact (like when he became Lt.). I think part of it is that he'd rather appear ignorant than having maliciously broken the law, and he understands that nobody will ever really be able to prove him intentionally breaking the law so long as he doesn't answer anything affirmatively.

Absolutely a case of, 'civilians must comply with what a cop tells them to do'. They are genuinely confused that someone would think how they handled this was wrong. concrete power and authority is a recourse and if you do not use it, your enemy will. this is why revolution is a real victory and electoral reform isn't. authoritarians will only stop when you have power to force them to because force is the only language they understand and don't have a conscience unless they fuck up so bad that they are forced to face what they have done but if it was up to them to the degree of extra power they desire, they would just smirk about it until they are buried with the skeleton still smiling.

Love the smooth brained people in the chat saying "well cops are people too and they shouldn't be required to do their jobs." There's literally 'duty to assist' good samaritan laws in some states that require average citizens to 'provide reasonable assistance' to injured people who need help. Some states require nurses and health professionals to assist with medical emergencies - people not on the job, people who just happen to hold a medical degree and are at the right place at the right time. But we're going to sit here and pretend the "protect and serve" people who are given guns and equipment and and egregious budget have no obligation to help people. Get the fuck out of here.

I'm coming up dry, but I suspect the overlap of our culture's perspective on law enforcement would actually _still_ keep them absolved of responsibility (likely because I think attention would then become instead a battle between and, say, an insurance agency-part of the struggle is finding a place where someone actually chooses to sue cops because their capital was "negligently allowed to be destroyed" or whatever the equivalent would be to watch someone get stabbed without intervening) But that may just be because there's no direct analogue, at least not one I can think of and then walk myself through.

As a white kid growing up in the rural south, I was raised to believe cops were the good guys until I actually began interacting with them or hearing others tell their stories. My own damn father worked briefly as a cop in our small town before I was born. He said he quit fast when he realized the others loved to just arrest drunks to beat the shit out of them in the back for fun. Unhinged shit. My first experience with a cop was at a junior high assembly where they asked if anyone was afraid of them. I almost said no and raised my hand because cops are supposed to be the good guys, right? Everyone who raised a hand was taken outside, put against a wall, and verbally/physically intimidated. As in, "You should be afraid of us cops!" Again, I'M WHITE IN THE RURAL SOUTH! Can you imagine the experiences of others?! Haven't trusted one since.

Cops are bad everywhere, but given the IMMENSE amount of power and shielding from consequences that police officers get in the US, the whole situation is in a completely different level. In my country police officers have been condemned for terrible things, including torturing detainees. But that is the key difference: Those cops were condemned and imprisioned for those things. And tortures is the most outrageous thing they have done. Meanwhile in the US, torture does not even register in the news because cops literally fill people with lead in the daily and get a tap in the hand if the person who they killed was innocent. And then they are not just not prosecuted, they are not even fired from their jobs. It is a whole new level.

Police academy in my state is 920 hours. In terms of 8 hour days, its 115. A school year for high school sophomore is 990 hours (180 ~5 hour days), which they must complete 4 times to then go to college. One is legally qualified to employ violence, the other is learning how to define triangles and, ironically, about the US constitution. As enforcing officers of the executive branch of government, police officers should be qualified attorneys who then learn the fundamentals of enforcement in Police academy. this academey should have a prerequisite of a Master of Laws or, at minimum, a BA in constitutional/criminal law. they are paid 3-4x what teachers are and have more power over people’s lives. they should be equally as qualified.

100% i believe the police could get sued for false advertisement. If they're arguing they have no obligation to protect people, one could argue that due to their advertising of their typical motto "to protect and serve" that one would feel safely protected when in the area of cops. Because if they didn't protect the person, then their motto would be false advertisement. One could argue that if they knew cops had no obligation to protect them, they would feel less safe around cops if a situation turned bad and would be more prepared for a bad outcome they'd have to handle, theirself. The real obstacle would be how hard is it to argue that a motto for a publicly funded entity is advertisement
