Coming from a professional criminal,and gaslighter, the correct thing to do in the situation with your friend is one of 3 things. 1. Say "Well I got this one from my grandma, but you can have it if you want. I don't really use it anymore." In this situation, you avoid both penalty and suspicion. 2. Say you found it on the ground outside, and claimed it not knowing that it was his. This way, there is a likely chance that your friend becomes angry at you, however in most cases, they will be unassuming and thank you after returning it. 3. Drug him, lock him in your room, and decapitate him with the He-Man sword. then hide his body in his yard where you found the sword.
