Something about this episode felt much more "real" than the others. I can't pin-point it, and I've also never heard about Jonnie Park until now. But something about the way he talked about unconditional love, the way he talked about his family dynamics, and his humility makes the conversation a lot more relatable

Loved the honesty and vulnerability on the show. There need to be more models of people shedding the weight of others’ expectations and exploring what moves them, and what impact they want to have on the world.

Man the nostalgia of seeing dumbfounded and seeing him in a better place is such a nice thing to see. Going to listen to this while I do my nightly routine. For my men in the chats make sure you prioritize you. Get some therapy, you'll never knew you needed it until you try it out.❤

Been listening to DFD since the ol Knocksteady Live / Grind Time and KOTD days. Like a decade ago, even a lil over that. I've had my own falls and stumbles but seeing him shine is beautiful. Wax is still active too... AND BREEZY? boy changed his name to anderson paak and got to play drums for dre at the superbowl. that's amazing. Long live KNOCKSTEADY, and RIP EOM

Nostalgic, transporting me back to high school times. Happy for Jonnie's Spiritual Growth Arc. Light up the world. i'm 32 as well. There comes a point when the ego is no longer the enabling force to break down obstacles to get you where you want to go; it becomes the obstacle itself when you need to level up to the next tier in Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. When you've obtained 'manufactured' success, you have no other option but to pause at the crossroads you're suddenly faced with and to reflect on the path/voices that led you to this point. You've made it up the mountain, but now your purpose is gone and you're not feeling much more fulfilled for it. Investing more than a quarter of your life for what exactly? For who? Egos mostly and/or incomplete perspectives on what living life means. In a nutshell, the older we get, the better we're able to differentiate between ego and Love and to navigate perspectives. Ego may light a fire under our asses but it'll never fill that void -- rather, ego perpetuates the void. Love is the thing that starts to fill it.

I love your thinking - that as we get older - ego isn't enough - and love is what we need instead. Beautifully put - and it's something I'm actively trying to learn myself now

@@trykarat Same. It's the hardest i've worked at something on a consistent (most times) basis -- and the most rewarding. Just practicing and stacking progress a day at a time, ensuring i'm being patient and grateful with myself throughout, as if rearing a baby (i don't have a baby haha). When you and Jonnie touched on the AITA subreddit and being the one to reach out to extend an invitation for connecting/salvaging relationships, that resonated deeply. One big hurdle for me over the years was how quickly i'd look to discard a person/situation if i didn't deem it conducive for spiritual growth. It was due in part to -- a big part -- ego. But i also realized that the more capacity i had to love others, the deeper the pain i felt from them and the more pronounced the disappointment i felt when others often didn't want to heal their own hurts, choosing instead to perpetuate the cycle of self-inflected harm/doubt/hate. In other words, i didn't want to remain in a static state or, worse, be dragged down alongside them. Over time and with practice, i've chosen to run towards such situations instead of away from them, because even if i may attempt at cutting ties with someone, the invisible cord that connects them to me has a very tangible effect on my mind/life (it feels like an incomplete chapter that prevents me from being immersed in the next/present chapter). The only difference between past me and present me is that i let go of the outcome. I choose to work on my capacity for love (and all the dirt that comes with it), hold space for others to interact with and nurture their own capacity for love, and then i let go after i've done all that i have the current capacity to do. This is what i envision Unconditional Love to be: limitless love where the bottomless pain you feel from others has you doing all you can to help them ascend to a more positive state -- then, letting go. It's not that you don't hurt how they hurt (perhaps even more than they hurt) or that you've given up on them. Rather, you honor each Souls' journey at their respective pace and the sovereignty each person has over their choice of existing in habits/ego or intuition/love. You extend a hand to pick them up, watch them as they learn to walk, feel the pain when they fall, and re-extend the hand when they need it. Thanks for allowing me to process my life, haha. Typing this out has been therapeutic.

I've done the same - where I've given up on relationships and kept space - to this day, I also haven't had a real conversation with my dad for probably over 5 years. I haven't yet done the mental & emotional work where I can extend that love the same way that you and Jonnie have - but I appreciate the model that I know I can try to follow now

@trykarat Haha what is it with our Dads and us. My Dad's been my #1 teacher on how Not to be -- over time, negative traits were all i saw about him. Funnily enough, i started assimilating many of them -- OSMOSIS 😂. What you and Jonnie said really does it for me: perspective -- that they got us here, allowing us these opportunities. Jonnie talking about viewing his Mom from the lens of when she would wipe his ass (😂) is my ongoing practice when it comes to viewing everyone -- esp my Dad. It makes it easier to look past the BS and my trained impulses so i can focus on doing what i can while i still can -- won't look back to my past wishing i would have done more to let them know that i love them regardless of whatever. Whether people are able to receive that invitation/love is out of my hands -- that's on them and the maturity of their Soul, but i did my part so no ragerts. Practice finding that love within yourself -- then time will take care of the rest. Remember to be kind to yourself, which is especially hard if no one presented a framework on how to do this early on. Now, we are there for ourselves, having forgiven ourselves for not having been there sooner. Hugs Brother

Been a long time follower of Jonnie, and I’ve always appreciated his openness about all topics. Trailblazer for the Asian community. Also, fun with dumb is arguably the best podcast to exist, especially if you are Asian American. So relatable, humorous, and insightful. Miss steffie and rick being regulars but dumb is just as entertaining alone. Love the guy man

Dumb needs to release his Magnum Opus. He is getting healthier, he has the insights and experiences, I wish he got some therapy and put the bed some of the thoughts that hold him back. He needs to release this music that he is proud of.
