Im definitely not an expert on Harry Potter so in regards to this video, i wonder how many times Dumbledore actually left Hogwarts. I know that he went to the ministry, also to the Dursleys to deliver baby Harry, to the cave to get the Horcrux, to slughorns house, etc. Basically i feel Dumbledore will go anywhere to get the job done and not limit himself to Hogwarts.

Dumbledore has left the castle many times so I also dont think he "imprisoned" himself

He never goes anywhere unless he HAS to. He didn’t literally imprison himself there. He probably felt isolated all the time. He almost never talked to students (with Harry being an exception, but again, it was only for necessary purposes). He’s isolated on purpose so he can’t hurt anyone again. That makes it a figurative prison.

I think most of ya'll are missing the point. Hogwarts is not an ACTUAL prison. Throughout the books Dumbledore is referenced as turning down Minster for Magic and is constantly called the greatest wizard of the age. But instead of taking that title and seeking power, he takes his role as Headmaster so he doesn't fall into the same patters as Grindelwald and to surround himself with what he knows will push him to wise choices instead of evil ones

I feel this makes Grindelwald forgivable compared to Voldemort who could never feel guilt or love Grindelwald actually decided to stay locked up and except that he had done wrong

This is why the movie change where Grindelwald tells Voldemort where to find the Elder Wand is so bad! Completely changes how Grindelwald tries to redeem himself. Also shows that the next most powerful Dark Wizard to Voldemort was at least capable of remorse.

I don't agree with this interpretation. Though Hogwarts was indeed where Dumbledore felt he could do the most good, by passing on the wisdom he learned from his own mistakes, his only 'prison' was his own willpower - his decision to act on his remorse. Unlike Grindelwald in Nurmengard, no-one else was making Dumbledore stay at Hogwarts either by force or by persuasion. Grindelwald's boast, 'do you think you can hold me' was just that. Once he had lost his followers he was unable to escape.

They kinda ruined Girindewald in the movies. In the books he would refuse to tell Voldemort the location of the elder wand but in the movies he told them.

I don't buy that. Firstly, if Dumbledore really was worried that he was dangerous to the world, the last thing he would allow himself to do would be to educate children. He would worry that his influence might pass his sickness on to their young minds. Being a teacher is a position of immense power in that you shape the lives of others and influencing the next generation; he understood that, and so did Voldemort, which is why the latter wanted the DADA job. Also, Dumbledore did not shy away from taking up significant roles in the wizarding government and wizengamot ("I'm well aware of our bylaws, Severus, *_having written several of them, myself_* .") Hardly the actions of a person who wants to deprive himself of power, in the way that an alcoholic might deprive himself of alcohol. Finally, if Hogwarts was his prison, then why did his closest friends opt to bury him there? Surely he was no longer a threat after he was dead (nobody knew about the danger of his wand), so you'd expect that his closest friends - who would surely have come to understand his self-imprisoning nature, if it were true - would want to finally see him find freedom in his death, and bury him elsewhere.

I think it more likely that Dumbledore made sure their were safeguards in place to make sure Grindelwald couldn’t escape. Why would Dumbledore choose to have him locked in a prison that he knows Grindelwald could just walk out all willy nilly?

We saw in the Second Fantastic Beasts Film that Grindelwald can escape prison easily. So, to lock him up for. 53 years is impossible except that he didn't try to get out
