@@biglollol Oh I understood what you were saying, apparently you didn't understand what I was saying. Here, let me rephrase and really break down the nuance for you- I understand that you think people going to and hyping up sequels to subpar movies is perpetuating an environment where it's both more commonplace and more acceptable to put out these mediocre products, and I even agree with you. But since you came right out of the gate being an angry aggressive internet man, I attempted to use levity to make your stance more digestable to those who may be put off by that sort of aggressive behavior. Since you don't understand social context, not only has the attempt to make your stance feel more like something people can agree with been completely nullified, but it almost certainly had the opposite intended effect of driving people away from your correct perspective.

I work in film and Jumper is often referenced, whenever teleportation effects are involved. It is considered to be the gold standard of physically accurate representation of what it would be like to swap areas of space along with the atmosphere. The explosive nature, the environmental interaction. The movie does its signature effects better than anyone else. Everyone wants Jumper teleports, but for 1/10th the budget, so nobody is able to match the crispness. Very few films do teleportation well.

I liked how the Jumpers fought. Like teleporting and then coming back with an entire bus that retains its momentum. That's effing sick.
@anhnhvn
@anhnhvn 2 ай бұрын
The movie was a little fast and loose with the mechanics of teleportation. Most of the time the momentum is nullified (such as when they teleport while falling). In others the momentum is preserved.
@RoonMian
@RoonMian 2 ай бұрын
@@anhnhvn That's because the jumpers instinctively change their momentum when they jump. That makes sense because otherwise if they jumped between different latitudes, due to the different speed at which points on the surface of the earth at different latitudes move through space because of the direction of earth's rotation, they fould fall on their faces every time. In a later book in the series one character contemplates that: "Hey... When I jump from the equator to the pole I don't feel any difference in acceleration even though the movement of the two points through space is different due to the direction of earth's rotation. That means my teleportation power must be instinctively giving my body an impulse to compensate. Hmmm... I wonder if I by jumping in place I can just give my body an impulse without changing my location?" And so that character learned how to use their jumping power to fly.
@Steven-093
@Steven-093 2 ай бұрын
Griffin does the coolest moves, like his momentum-punch on Roland. Or how David’s daughter can fly, by jumping in the exact same spot (Impulse novel) Or how David escapes his captors by flooding the facility he’s detained in. He invents ‘twinning’ which basically means he’s jumping back and forth so fast that his body itself becomes like a ‘jumpscar’. (Reflex novel)
@anhnhvn
@anhnhvn 2 ай бұрын
@@RoonMian I get your point, but "you gotta read the book to understand" is not a good argument for a movie adaptation. Movies are about showing, so the rules should have been laid out for the audience to see. Typically we should see a training montage where the MC test the limits of his newfound power. However this movie inexplicably does a timeskip and jumps straight to adult David's life, as if teenage David would be too boring. Then they imported Griffin from his own novel to fill in the gaps in David (and also the audience)'s knowledge. Eventually, causing the two of them to compete for screen time and making David less intelligent and proactive.
@Andytlp
@Andytlp 2 ай бұрын
@@RoonMian Still the movie is full of plot holes. Like when samuel is chasing them through their own portals or whatever. Why dont they first jump somewhere thousand feet above ground. Theres no way to follow that as assailants would fall before they could use their device to slip through his last teleport window or whatever its called. At the very least it would dissuade following if they can tell its a high altitude trap and evade that way.

This is one of those movies that I never understood the hate for. I absolutely loved it, and I've rewatched it a number of times recently and it honestly still holds up. It just seems to be a wrong place wrong time type of film. Which is particularly unfortunate, because as you mentioned Hayden Christensen already had a lot of unwarranted hate to deal with around that time, and the reception of this film certainly didn't help. I'm glad though that recently he's begun to receive the recognition he has so rightly deserved for so many years.

It's an easy watch, but I don't think I'd want to watch it again. I think it had problems with the villain and explaining his agenda. I needed some real reasons of why he was after Jumpers. I don't know the books - didn't even know it was based on anything, so those might have a better story. The family drama was also a bit underdeveloped - even if some was left for later, it lacked foundations. As it was it's a decent action flick, you shouldn't think too much about.

IMPULSE wasn't so much a sequel to JUMPER I dont think. They just took the name of the 3rd novel book (Impulse) and used it for the KZbin series. Although the main teleporter is a female in IMPULSE like David Rice' Daughter in the IMPULSE book, it wasn't related to JUMPER the movie. The first movie ended in a such a way that I thought it was just a one and done movie with just enough loose ends for the writers to make a sequel and enough conclusiveness to wrap things up right there. I had no idea there was a whole series of books already written. I honestly can't believe this movie was technically a flop.

8:12 what’s ironic is that people’s comment about him being wooden or unemotive in the prequels is because he’s supposed to be. That’s his character. Anakin believes being a Jedi means suppressing your true emotions, which is why he absolutely explodes during his showdown with Obi-Wan in Revenge of the Sith.
@Egeslean
@Egeslean 2 ай бұрын
Bad excuse that doesn't even hold up in-universe. How many of the other Jedi act like he does? Hmm? Oh, none of them? Not even Yoda?! Come up with some other cope that makes more sense. I won't say it was all him, cuz directing and script are large parts of it, but yeah, his acting was not good.
@andrewsilva9721
@andrewsilva9721 2 ай бұрын
@@Egesleanall of the Jedi act pretty stoic and unemotional, the difference with anakin is that he was already a boy when he joined the order, he'd already built up some angst from living in slavery and then leaving his mother behind still in chains. That's why the council initially says that he's too old. The other Jedi were raised to not show their emotions and the order is all that they know, Anakin in episode 2 is an emotionally traumatized teenager who is only pretending to be stoic by constantly burying those emotions. And when his emotions do come out, he doesn't know how to express them properly, hence why he's so cringe around Padme, and why he comes off so wooden. His stability is a mask and his instability is something he doesn't understand and no one around him can really relate with him to help him. So, yeah, the performance fits perfectly, Hayden Christensen played the character very well. Whether you like the character is another story, but that's not the actor's fault.
@Egeslean
@Egeslean 2 ай бұрын
@@andrewsilva9721 See, this is much better cope, and I'm actually onboard with it to a fair degree, but I still say his acting wasn't that good. You can see that in other roles he's played, he's just not that good of an actor. He's far from the worst and not bad, just nothing special or anything to write home about. But as I said before, script and direction had a lot to do with how poorly the character was received then, and now.

When I first saw Jumper I didn't realize it was part of a series of books, so I felt it was ended okay. Watching Impulse brought me back to remembering how much I liked Jumper, and I do agree that a TV series allowed a better build up of characters. How she discovers her ability was both shocking and incredibly believable, even more so than the drowning in Jumper. But let's look at Push, another movie with a similar feel that ended with a hint of a sequel, but has been far too long to revisit it with the same people. Maybe a reboot? And I hate reboots and loved Chris Evans in it (first time I ever saw him), but newer tech and proper funding for a less-B movie feel would allow us to explore that world a lot better. Maybe even tell a more complete story with a longer single movie.

Throughout a lot of my life, I've been able to like movies others don't because I enjoy concepts. When you say, "Great concept, bad execution," there's so many films like this. When I was younger there were so many films like that that I loved. But nowadays I'm less forgiving of it. I still enjoy some movies when I can see the concept there, but if the execution fails hard enough I just feel so betrayed. It's even more sad when you realize a big reason why this happens is because the studios don't take a seat and keep their mouths shut. Jumper, Push and Wanted are still 3 great concepts and I loved them a lot. Nowadays it's all about comic book superheroes, but I wish we could get more movies like those 3. Thanks for the nostalgia. ❤

I enjoyed this movie and loved it as a child, but on a recent rewatch, many issues stood out to me. The film was too short, and the camera cuts between scenes were too quick, making it difficult to fully engage with the story. The movie never fully explains what happens to the dad or provides any resolution for Griffin’s character, leaving huge plot holes. Also, the idea that Paladins and Jumpers have existed for centuries feels too far-fetched. You would expect human society to have discovered their existence by now, especially after seeing David and Griffin teleport-fighting across the world in broad daylight in front of numerous witnesses. It’s just not believable that they could remain hidden for so long.

Man it made me so happy to hit the comments and see all the love this movie is getting, I always tell people this is my favorite movie and a lot of times people have no clue what it is. So underrated, so much fun, I wanted this power so bad as a kid. The nostalgia. This movie and Push are just so good and a huge part of my childhood.
