Remember when buying a game, then paying $15 a month was controversial? Good times.

They should make a law that when people pay a certain amount of money for a game with micro transactions the player should have free access to everything the shops has to offer. Then the problem would solve itself. Because no game in the history of humanity is worth several 100 dollars.

I think you missed the point on that first one, he doesn't mean games like DS where multiplayer is an option, he's talking about live services or always-online games, even for singleplayer games to push micro transactions like assassin's creed odyssey and origins, among many others.

The reason AAA developers force multiplayer is it's easier to enjoy a shit game with friends, i've played some atrociously boring and broken games but had fun because of the social interactions. Once that's removed in single player all the flaws and problems of the game become clear as day. If a game cannot stand on it's own in single player it doesn't deserve to succeed.

Just because you play offline single player games doesn't mean you aren't part of a community, games are much older than the Internet. Back in the day you played multiplayer by being in the same room. I remember playing halo 4v4 with two linked xboxes in separate rooms in the house, that was peak multiplayer, being able to shout at each other and having the worst player on your team just physically attack the other team as a legitimate strat.

I only play 1 multiplayer game...Apex Legends...and I rarely play anymore because of the lack of solo mode. I MUCH prefer single player open world mindless loot/map marker clearing hopefully with a good story that allows me to turn my brain off for an hour or 2 after work and just focus on the next marker to clear out. I know this is what most people hate, but I love it.

lol being a new player of wow i can without a doubt say that the community is actually quite hostile in social interactions. i find it funny because its gotta be like a 98% chance that the community itself is the reason populations have dropped the way it has. A new player will have a mountain of info to tackle with the info from online, most of which is dated or written in a way that requires you to do more research. you ask a question and get flamed for not becoming one with the hive mind earlier AKA not going through the 10 year long MMO first start to finish without interacting with anyone until you catch up(even if you did that very thing and and came out of it with little more then a rough idea of a few areas). this issue isnt as crippling until you realize that losing players is something that will happen no matter what. people grow complacent and are never happy, most people cant do the same thing forever even more so when that one thing is what they spend their extra time on. so the player base leave naturally and based off of changes and best of all because the game is dying all while actively looking for the first hint that you havent been here since Warlords or sooner to crucify you. This whole experience ranking probably in top 10 worst gaming experiences of their life as they spend $60 to play a M.M.O. being told to either waste the month they bought completely, and the character they are given and the current expansion they just shelled out 60 bucks for for the next 10 years before getting to use there purchase or interact with the community(of a f*cking MMO!!) or be shunned as they know it. this all being even more hilarious seeing as the dying community has insane expectations of the next updates but actively hinder any chance of Blizz making money in a long term and justifying the money to give them what they want(not even talking about mircos just expantions and subs) hands down one of the most vile communities if you arent in the clique already which are a active poison to their own game. save your money and your time nothing the wow community expect of you or Blizz is realistic. Out of 4 firends starting around the same time i am the only one sticking to it and its only to maybe make a video showing the journey(im not vvery confident i wont bbe shooed off or give up out of frustrating confustion)

So it means games are not made for everyone now, they are made for elites with huge chunks of money. Thanks clarifying that. If you are not rich, you cannot enjoy the game how it's supposed to be.

It's funny how the more time pass, the deeper the gap between only-multi-player games and only-single player games becomes It seem like developers and studios have realized what players want based on the games they play Players who mainly plays multi-player-games are perfectly fine with playing something repetitive because multi-player games don't require as much attention MMOS players are especially known to skip the story and dialogues, yet they don't mind doing the same things for hours on hand while having something going-on in the background On the other-hand, compétitives games like FPS, fighting-games, MOBAS, and RTS games are known to need a high-level of attention and are treated as sports at high-levels, but they're also basically time-sinkers when player-casually On the other-hand, nowaday single-player games are going the entire opposite direction Developers and studios expect single-player games to be an experience for the player, which mean great efforts are made to make sure to not lose the player's attention Games Silent-Hill 2 and Gris are known for their fantastic storytelling which pass from their visuals, sound, and gameplay You also have titles like Planes ape, Fallout:New-Vegas, Pillar of Eternity, which all are great RPGs with great stories which completely immerge the player in it's setting, but reading is the thing you will mainly do in theses ges, which take a great lot of patience and attention to appreciate And weird indie games like Rimworld and Space-Engineer have both stupidly complexes but fun stuff you can do, but they also both require that the player pay extreme attention and dedication just to learn the incredibly-deep mecanics What I'm trying to say is: Basically players who only play multi-player games, and players who only play single-player games have entirely different perception of what they expect from a game Multi-player gamers don't want to have to learn much or pay attention, they don't want a game, they want a time-sinker (which is fine, don't think it's an attack or something) They want something simple wich consist of a simple-task to repeat over and over so they can focus on other-things like talking with friends, watching a show/videos, or listening to music while playing And on the other-side, single-player gamers expect their games to offer them something to connect with them and mark them, They will pay attention and care but they expect the games they play to be more than time-sinkers and actually offer an interesting experience in some kind-of way

EA approached liberty media trying to get the rights to the formula 1 licence back from codemasters a couple of years ago and they presented chase carrey with a plan that included turning the game series into a "live service money spinner. Chase Carrey reminded them of how they blew thier chance before and how it cost them $50.000.000 before telling andrew wilson to fuck off.

The idea of Blizz pushing cashshop into WoW is stupid. You have subscription based game, you have basically steady stream of incoming money. You push the cashshop and lose player, then is it worth of losing player that is paying 12*$15 year for $20 dollar horse? Same is with making game to appeal more to casual player, why? You have already big audience that is paying you every month a $15, why lose that audience for casual players who just come into game, play maybe few months and then leave. If you have sub based game and the you have as many active players as WoW, you shouldn't think about appealing to new audience on cost of losing old audience. I get in B2P game you change the game appeal to new audience, because you have already got the money from the audience you have, so appealing to new audience mean more income.

i really find 0 problem with cosmetics especially in a free to play game. The alternative would be making the game buy to play, for everybody. I am totally ok with the players who buy cosmetics, showing off that they support the game. I'm looking at league of legends as an example, it's a free to play game that managed to stay fair and competitive and still make money, just because of cosmetics, that's fking great

The lambo analogy is actually pretty good. Have fun emptying your gas tank within 10 sec and paying shit out the ass in maintenance costs for an overhyped brand that no one gives a shit about. I'd argue that luxury is one difference but a lambo has the same interior as a corolla quality wise because "performance".
