Just watching your video gives us so many ideas for us to do the job right the first time and extends the longevity of the trailer. That is what "repairs" are supposed to do and that helps us all. Thanks, Brandon, for taking us on this adventure!!! That trailer is expensive, and I hope your renumeration is appropriate for your efforts!!! Be well, be safe, be Blessed!!!

I learned my lesson about 10 years ago not using the guard on an angle grinder. I had a flop disk and I didn't hang on one handed very well. It hit the concrete floor bounced back up into my leg just above my ankle. I still have a bad spot there. I own four of them and all have guards. That trailer should serve them well, great job Brandon!

I've had some close calls over the years also. For that reason, I won't run a tool without a guard. The abrasives are too unpredictable. I hope you have a great weekend

I learned my lesson when I had a cutoff wheel on, started the grinder and as I wrapped my other hand around the body of the grinder, I stuck my index finger right into the edge of the wheel. It cut pretty deep into the tip of my finger but it cauterized the cut so not much blood. It took a while for that to heal.

I did some repairs a couple of years ago on a rusty old utility trailer. It just never stops. You fix one area and another spot opens up! I have never seen as a rusty a trailer as that one!

Especially if you live in the rust belt / salt states. I had a 2006 Chevy truck and didn't know better and never treated the frame with undercoating. In about 10 years the frame was destroyed and the truck was basically a parts vehicle. Rust is bad news!

great explanation on how and why for the steps. I think it would have been great to see how you handle welding underneath (overhead welding) and I only have an A.C. stick welder, so I wonder if you run A.C., or a polarity on the 6011 and 7018?
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 2 ай бұрын
Thank you! I run DC. I will have some overhead coming up soon. It always makes me nervous filming overhead welding from a low position because that's how I ruined my last camera. My camera has to point upwards, and that exposes the lens a lot more to sparks as compared to it pointing downwards. I generally start by lowering my amps by 10 when welding overhead.

Impressed you did this all on 110 Volts. Will all 6011 run on DC? I seem to recall some brands say AC only. I have much less experience and don't mean to talk out of turn. Just want to save someone from buying rods that wont work with their welder.
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 2 ай бұрын
Great questions! Yes all 6011 can run on AC or DC whereas 6010 is a DC only rod. That Fronius makes running 110 a breeze. It welds on 110 no different than on 220. As far as running it on 110, for my setup, as long as I'm under 90 amps and I'm not chucking up one rod after another, it won't pop the 20 amp circuit breaker. But if I know I'm going to be welding all day, I run the 220 cord to avoid those issues. It's nice sometimes to just pull out one cord and plug all your tools into an adaptor instead of running 1 heavy cord for the welder and another for tools.
@1978garfield
@1978garfield 2 ай бұрын
@@BrandonLund I saw a Fronius demo on Lift Arc Studios. They were getting something insane like 175 amps off of 110 Volts. The Belgians have not spent all there time on waffles apparently. Hope you and yours are well. Have not seen a video for a couple of weeks. Hopefully you have been on the bike welcoming Spring.
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 2 ай бұрын
Thanks man! Yah those Fronius machines are very sophisticated. I love mine. I've taken a couple weeks off the welding channel. Some of my projects haven't timed out well for the channel schedule and I've run into some delays on materials arriving on time so I decided to do some work over on my motorcycle channel. The next three weeks I have videos scheduled to upload over there. Its been Busy busy busy lately.

Can I ask why you stick weld instead of MiG weld this repair? Is stick that much stronger? Thx
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 2 ай бұрын
Great question 👍 I like doing stick especially outside because it's just so versatile, its fast, strong and the consumables are fairly inexpensive. I used self shielded wire on the areas where the metal was really thin, which is where wire feed welding really has the advantage over stick welding. One really isn't stronger than the other when done properly so I pick and chose to make things go smoother. I could have done the thin metal with 1/16" 6013 rods, it just would have been a little more difficult for me 👍
@floydwilcox2640
@floydwilcox2640 2 ай бұрын
@@BrandonLund Ok thanks bro 👍 I guess I’ll need to learn to stick weld as well. Been doing MiG with C25 and self shielded, haven’t tried stick yet. I’ll check out you stick welding videos. Thanks again for all you do for the welding Community. 👊👍
@BrandonLund

In my opinion, once you start stick welding, every other process is much easier to understand. Stick welding is the basic fundamental of welding and is very enjoyable and you can get started for very little money.

I'd might of used a larger piece on the bottom. It's all about leverage.
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 2 ай бұрын
100% but It's only going to be as strong as the weakest link, and that is the thin wall square tube that everything is welded to. I could have used 1/4" plate, but the thin tube that it's welded to is going to shear before the new plates will.

I like using stick outside when I can just because it's fast, strong and fairly inexpensive compared to wire feed welding. I primarily use wire feed outside when I'm working with thin material.

I know this is off the point. But my readers work best with a full face shield. When exact work is required. As in drill sharpening. Also under my welding helment. Also another tip. A lot of people have trouble getting the spatter off . It needs to be hit with hammer and chisel. If it won't come off. Hit it harder. Andrew kindly
