I was a diesel mechanic for over 30 years before I retired, and for you to do this job I commend you for doing a better repair than most of the people I've worked with. The only thing I didn't see was you did not adjust the brake, but the driver was trained in driving school to do that, so it was his responsibility to do that.

Next time you work on a brake chamber like that to reinstall all you have to do is have the drive release just the trailer brakes (Leave the tractor brakes engaged) and the shaft will recess back into the chamber allowing you to easily install it back in place. You may have to back off the slack adjuster (The arm you ratchet strapped) but, if you do mess with that adjustment, after installing the chamber while the brakes are still released on the trailer run the slack adjuster all the way back in pushing the brakes out to the drum then back off the adjuster exactly one half turn with your ratchet and the brakes will be perfectly adjusted and done. Much easier and faster than having to take the brake chamber apart like that for sure.
@JuanGarcia-ob5uh2 жыл бұрын
I just watched this video, I work on trucks and trailers. Those bolts are called cage bolts, the sell a very deep socket just for those. You did an outstanding job, even without ever have done it before. Get you a Milwaukee 1/2 in cordless impact, it will save you time and effort, and your make more money.
@CarlosMorales-jd5hb2 жыл бұрын
The easy way is to use wheel chocks on tractor and trailer and remove the air park brake. The s-cam brake lever also has an adjuster to get the arm out of the way so you don't need a come along. A 1/2 inch ratchet with a 7/16 socket is you need.
@Lhosal2 жыл бұрын
Here's a quick tip instead of using that nut to release the brake chamber, as long as it is connected to the air lines you can just tell the driver to release the trailer brakes and that rod will pull in. If you want to be safe just tell him to keep the truck brakes on. Love the channel I hope the next one is easy money with not bees lol.

I know this is an old video but I have/use belt sanders to get into small, hard to reach areas. You can reach down into really tight places. Mostly use the 18x1/2" but the smaller one is 13x3/8" (I think). 60 grit almost cuts as fast as 36 grit but last twice as long. Oh yeah, search Sea to Summit head net. You could keep it in the glovebox for emergency's. They're like 13 bucks.

YIKES! I am allergic to bees. I have been a mechanic, but cars & pickup trucks, not done a lot toward big trucks. I had a former friend that drove, we are no longer friends, & I did a lot of work for him, but I once turned down a job, he was thinking of going from box van to flatbed, found 1, wanted me to look it over before he bought, I found over 100 cracks in frame, 40+ down each side, front & rear, and looked like twisted frame, I said I wouldnt touch it, a few cracks, sure, but that thing was abused & was ready for farm duty, not on road traveling USA. those long nose grinders look neat, not bought 1 yet, I did get a Makita X-Lock for Christmas, for a system to throw in car for taking to repair, I like the quick change & not looking where tool is to remove grinding disc, usually burried bottom of the tool bag, 99% of work I do at home, I stopped doing field repairs for most part in 2012, but slowly doing some. I still have my engine drives, but I will throw Generator & grab small stick welder, or MIG, and small torch outfit, maybe 1 day I will put engine drive back to work, but not used either in 9 years. had a Lincoln Ranger9, & a Hobart Pipeline welder with the Willys engine
