Yes! Goodwill and all thrift stores have increased their prices, sadly. Just when folks are most in need. That pet hair would be of use to someone who spins fleece into yarn. This was done by ancient peoples and you can sometimes see evidence of this in museums. Usually it was spun and used for weaving. I’ve seen it used in woven belts.

Merrimac State Park is gorgeous. If you are going to tour the caverns you won't be disappointed! Missouri is chock-a-block with wonderful things. I think we get over looked a lot as a great place to vacation. I live in St.Louis and would love to run into you guys at a dumpster! Hope you keep having fun!! It's great to share your journey!

A trick we always used when tent camping was to buy the kindergarten mats. They're pretty cheap new but you can probably find them really cheap at a thrift store or yard sale.

I used to work at campgrounds. CHECK OUT THEIR DUMPSTERS!! A lot of city people buy a bunch of brand new camping gear, come to a campground, and realize they HATE camping. I have found brand new tents, sleeping bags, fishing poles, coolers, cooking pots, inflatable water toys, and one time, a brand new ice cream freezer still in the box. Me and my co-worker always checked out the dumpsters on Sunday night, that's when all the good stuff was to be found. It's been several years since I had a job at that particular camp, but I'm STILL using shower gel, shampoo, towels, blankets, and steel insulated cups that I found left behind in the bathhouses, on picnic tables, at campsites,, and at the dumpsters. People leave massive amounts of unused toiletries, linens, etc, at campgrounds. I used to find PILES of towels stacked on the picnic tables at the canoe/kayak takeout. People would sit at the tables waiting for the bus to take them back to the campground, and when it arrived, they'd stand up, completely forgetting the towels they were sitting on.

I saw an ad yesterday while watching a video on you tube and right away thought of you guys! It's called Trusted Housesitters and the idea is for people traveling like you are to sign up to house sit which includes you bringing in the mail, watering plants and best of all taking care of their pets. You can stay a day or weeks. Just an idea for your next vacation. You can plan your route by the houses you sign up to sit for, fancy neighborhoods with swimming pools and great curb alerts, or close to attractions or huge malls to dive in! How about Mall of America? They are probably crawling with security just for the dumpsters. Be safe out there both of you, I'll be watching!

My partner, Phillip, and I were best friends for 16 years before we became a couple. Truthfully, I think if we had gotten together before we did, we wouldn't have lasted. As it is, we only had another 9 years together. He passed away in my hands in June 2015. So I really love the videos you put out. Look for those soft foam pieces to use under your blankets/sleeping bags. Will cushion you from rocks etc and you can just toss them in a dumpster when you are done with them! Happy camping!

Awesome video, even though you didn't find much! You guys should do an experiment and find all the Aldi's along your route across the country or other stores where you are guaranteed to find food (like Panera bread, Trader Joe's, etc...) and see if you can supply food for you whole trip instead of spending $ on food while on the road. I would love to see you do something like that.

Try an air mattress in your tent. They work pretty good. My mom was from Missouri so we were blessed to go there a lot to visit our grandparents. At 73 I’m still blessed to go cause I have cousins there. It’s a beautiful state for sure

Good to get away. Tent camping this time of year Midwest or anything North of Texas, tarp for the ground, set up tent, tarp for top of tent. Keeps you dry and warm. Air mattress for floor, probably available at a sporting goods store. Where you are it is very pretty. Fall colors are popping too! Stay safe, warm and have a great time!

Looks like it is going to be a fun trip!! Love that you two are doing this! I think you need it! Stop at a Walmart or someplace like that and get a couple of the egg create camping mats. I used them when I camped with my son when he was in scouts. They are comfy and fairly inexpensive. There are other options in thin sleeping mats that work well also. I think they would improve your nights sleep and worth it plus insulated so you are off the cold ground! Stay safe please!!

Hello, I recommend getting an air mattress with a battery operated inflator or you can get two of those swimming pool floats to sleep on while camping, it's definitely worth it and you're back will thank you 😊. Have fun and be safe.

I live in St. Louis, and I was not able to determine where you were driving, but once you got to Meramec State Park, things became familiar. Lol. Ohmygosh! I know exactly all of these places that you D-dived at. The pit stop you made is about 25 minutes from my town. I shop in those stores all of the time; including that Goodwill. All of our GW stores have more than tripled their prices because they want to sell direct and prevent resellers from shopping there. Meramac is gorgeous! I wish you would have had better weather. This is usually a gorgeous time of year in this area.

No, as someone who is from Missouri, I can tell you it's because most people in Missouri aren't dumb enough to throw good stuff away. Though I will say that in the 90's there was a shoe store outside of Carthage that would throw hundreds of brand new shoes away every week, lefts one day and rights some other so people couldn't dumpster dive them. This ticked me off! That's were so many homeless and poor who could have used new shoes. (I know about this because my ex drove the trash truck)

It's so sad stores do that.I know they are cornered about people trying to return them for money or credit. On the bottom of shoes, they can mark them without damaging them. I appreciate what the two of you do to help the people that need help surviving. I was a social worker and it still breaks my heart how difficult it was for some people to live. God bless you! Welcome to my home state of Missouri. I've been to Springfield a lot. Bass Pro Shops are there, Animal Paradise drive thru park is there. Your very close to Branson, MO and Silver Dollar City. Those are both tourist towns.

If y’all can find some inexpensive sleeping bags of thicker bit of foam they should help cushion the ground. I stop donating to GW and the SA long ago bcuz, I believe that when something is donated, even if you’re reselling, your prices should be affordable for everyone especially those who can’t afford to purchase otherwise. Plus GW throw what they don’t sell in the trash. I’m speaking from experience and my opinion so I don’t want anyone coming at me as to what they do or donot.

$18 bucks for a camo blanket is cheap. Id say that was a miracle find. Camping& diving i fing love it! Consider making a hammock& camping in a hammock up off the ground. Im old sleeping on the ground isnt an option anymore. Glad u had fun!

You need to by a icechest that plugs in your truck so you can put food in it so you have stuff to eat while traveling. We have on and love it.

Thrift stores usually have bedding that is free to use for pets. Go out to a good breakfast and bring out fruits and breads that you can do PBJ's. Hot soups and pasta and beans for hearty meals will keep you warm at night. Have fun, be safe, watch out for the unexpected.

Welcome to Missouri my home state. If you dive in St. Louis or at . Louis County. A lot of dumpsters are locked. Not all. And please be careful driving in St. Louis. It not the safest city to be in. Love you both
