Since I was 14 years old, my dad and I would cruise neighborhoods on trash day. Almost all of the furniture in our house came from trash day. I learned how to reupholster furniture, how to strip and refinish wooden tables, weld, and more skills than I can’t count. I’m now 65 years old and am set for life (thanks to my 25 years at a private owned company going public 10 days before I retired.). Despite this windfall, I STILL drive slowly through our neighborhood on trash day and still pick things I can fix and use. Drives my wife crazy!

Quick followup… we have a 25 year old Natuzzi all leather couch with foot rests on each end. Although it is getting a little long in the tooth and most people would haul it out to the curb, I’ve been restoring it from top to bottom. Today, a Natuzzi that matches ours goes for about $4,000 (we paid $1,200 for it and a lounge chair in 1996 from an outlet store). I have repaired all of the mechanicals and am about to tackle the sanding and staining using Natuzzi stains (you can still buy them!). The ONLY change I won’t make is replacing the cushions as they are now molded to both me and my wife’s body form. The rest will have the new finish but all of the wrinkles will still be there. Friend think we’re crazy “just buy a new one”. They don’t get it. Mike the scavenger is a kindred spirit.

@@MikeTheScavenger You must have a junkyard for yourself because you only show a yard run when you stop getting views
@dianna31572 жыл бұрын
@@mmill6505 I seriously doubt that his views go down, especially because he's not doing a scrap yard run...you would have to view the video to see if he goes there or not. He has hundreds of older videos to watch if you want to see the scrap runs. He explained to us (a couple of times) why he's not showing it much anymore. The more money he was making, the more competition he was getting. And although he didn't specifically tell us, this IS a cash business, meaning it's hard for the IRS to prove how much income you're making from your "side job" unless you're making video PROOF of additional income! Mike's a smart man, he gives his fans more than enough entertainment without letting everyone know how much money he makes. **If anyone watched his garage sales, he never told us how much he made on those either, his wife even asked him specifically NOT to.

Mike, I scrap e-waste in Canada and there is good money in it. Motherboard, ram, cpu,pci cards have not only gold but many other precious metals. Hard drives are a big item as the base is solid aluminum, the small circuit board has a bunch of gold and the list goes on. Keyboards have a whole film of silver in them. We get .40 cents a pound for cases as sheet steel and untouched motherboards will fetch you $20 bucks each but the secret is quantity like 75 motherboards.

That pink helium tank in the first dumpster is something I would have considered grabbing. It had the valve still on it, use that to make sure everything's out and there's usually a spot where you can punch into it with a screwdriver to safely pierce and make safe.

Since seeing how these guys are trying to make a living, I now make it real easy, all metal is left to the side of property, Never sits for more than 24 hours, more efficient than any other working part of England for sure🤣, cleared entire house and garage out of all unwanted, I was amazed how much metal and electronics I had gathering dust, I like what Australia does, area by area once a year I think free curb collection, so scrappers all go to the area that week with free collection, England should adopt some of these countries ideas, we have to book on-online for time slot to take our rubbish to the recycling centre (dump) that is too big for the doorstep recycling bins, U.S. seem to collect anything curb side weekly, that is an astonishing service, makes scrapping easier for sure, you sure did clean that dumpster good, geez every nut & bolt with your sweeper magnet, efficient Mike

I’ve got an outlet for all the buckets I can bring in and clean up. If they have screw on lids they go for a little more. Usually about a buck a gallon with snap on lids and 1.5 to 2 bucks a gallon with screw on lids. Those pool chemical buckets usually have screw in lids too.
