Hey Mike just watched your video and did a quick search on Ebay and found a Racal recorder like the two you found and it was listed for $2,500.00 Australian dollars so you may be able to get some real cash for those two. Mike, those are real to real recorders, Dad would send us tapes while he was stationed in Vietnam, so we wouldn't forget what he sounded like, I'm quite sure they are collector's item now.

Decades later I was talking to my older brothers about them and they said "Didn't you hear the mortar fire and explosions?" , I said "No, I just heard Daddy's voice". I used to work for the railroad rebuilding locomotives, our shop was in an industrial area and I met a scrapper like you once, he and his wife scrapped exclusively, that is all they did. He did what you do and she got ALL the cardboard and pallets, They Left nothing in the dumpsters. Every time I saw them they were filthy because they scrapped the industrial waste from the complex I worked in. I met them out once I was eating at a restaurant and this man and just drop dead gorgeous woman came up and were like "Hey Jim!!" How are you/" It took me 20 seconds to place these two looking like movie stars in the old tee shirts and jeans I saw them in most days.

They went in and order the most expensive thing on the menu. None of the servers wanted to wait on them. When they were ready they handed their server 100.00. In the 70s that was alot

There used to be a neat magazine called "Found" that printed pictures and stories of stuff like that- family heirlooms, photo albums, etc. that people found abandoned, in thrift stores, or in the trash. I don't think it's around any more, but it was a nice mag to look at.

I'm the same way Mike, I can't believe it when I find old books in the dumpster. I can't believe that people throw them away. I find books, all the time, as early as the 1910s in a dumpster behind a certain thrift store. I save what I can when I come across them

Mike, I scared my wife as I told her that I looked into the laws of scrapping in California (you don't want to know). She thought I'd get my headlight and go for it. Being a long haired Native, I'd get arrested quickly! Lucky I know the cops, retired from the slammer after 25 years. But those old recorders are cool. My step dad had one and we recorded all sorts of cool stuff, including how to sound like the chipmunks. I wish you had stopped in Sonoma Co. CA as I took 6 truck loads of wire, electronics and up to 14 truck loads of total with probably a ton of scrap to the dump. probably 5-600lbs of the big batteries.

You are so right about people who throw out boots. It is disgusting how are tossed out. Bookstores are one of the biggest offenders. Dang, if you don't want them at the least you could do is donate them. Libraries, schools, retirement homes.... And yeah, Jelly Roll is great. His lyrics are sometimes brutally honest for some. Like song in the song, I only pray.

I love old books 📚, the history is so amazing. Take the medical or anything newer to the college bookstore. They buy them and resell them. I always bought used books 📚.

I gotta tell ya Mike, I sure missed ya. And the books, throwing them in the dumpster is the same as the days when they used to burn them. People were up in arms about that, now they just throw them away and think that’s better. DUH 🙄 🙏♥️🇨🇦🌈 You should go back and get those reel to reels to go with those recorders then perhaps people might want to buy them.

Thankyou , you make me laugh and cry daily with your humour and philosophy of life. I am not sure if you are aware that the glass round plate that one finds in the microwave is easy to sell as it is likely many users have a broken glass rotating plate and very needy of purchasing a replacement for ten dollars approximately .. Also your respect for the use and saving of old dumpster tools and found books of all varieties is so good to the heart. Your values are so wise and I hope more people will follow your pearls of wisdom concerning never to throw out books or used tools , etc. Recycling is awesome !!!!

my friend who is also a youtube scraper uses a trampoline canvas as a cover for his dump trailer to keep stuff from blowing out going down the highway ..its better than a plastic tarp because air blows through it..

That trampoline frame can be used to create a dome-shaped greenhouse. You might want to put that on Craigslist. I am also appalled when I see books being thrown away. KZbin's not going to last forever!

Mike good to see you and another scrapping good time video. When using those 48" LED fluorescent bulbs replacement no ballast is needed and is wired differently. Save a few of them and make a video on wiring them up.

Man that heliax cable is EXPENSIVE. I use lots of it for radio systems. Some of those connectors are $50-$100 each. Let alone the cable.i’d be interested in some of those cables.

Jelly roll is a fantastic artis. I highly recommend his song glitter. It's one of the few that are actually better live than recorded. Just do a little research on if it's illegal or not in your area. You can also go and talk to the owners of the company/business your diving. Let them know you're saving the environment and making a few bucks while ensuring some items don't go to the landfill. Alot of them won't mind and give you permission. Might make you sign a liability waver.

Mike those cell site jumpers I need 4 for my radio repeater. That is a gold mine of cables. I have them in my Amateur Radio Shack. I have the corring kit for that hard line. You have over 1000 dollars just in cables. Please don't scrap. List them for Amateur and commercial Radio. Those connections for hard line I have some here. Check with a local Ham Radio club and they will tell you about it. I just found your Racal recorder on Ebay for $1917. And $268 for shipping.

Those Racal tape recorders are magnetic tape recorders used in the early days of mainframe computers. The particular one with maintenance manual is worth a pretty penny as vintage industrial digital electronic machinery. It could fetch a nice price on the second hand market on Ebay or such. If you'd throw in a few of those magnetic tapes too, I'm fairly certain a digital computer buff will be glad to take it off your hands for a decent price. Either way, they deserve to be kept safe as authentic electronic equipment

I was thinking about all those document boxes that could have had any number of original user manuals for various early computer and mainframe equipment. I've had good luck with that stuff on eBay. Several months ago I found a mid-80s dot matrix printer that would have been worth a pretty penny if it could have been made functional again. It was too far gone unfortunately. However it had it's original owners manual in the box which sold very quickly.
