I don't necessarily find anything wrong with it when just looking for material items that are thrown out but what is creepy tho is identity thieves/hackers sometimes use the same techniques to steal information about people through their garbage (old receipts/bank statements/ etc.) not everyone thinks about shredding those types of things.

The few times I worked retail I absolutely HATED the amount of stuff they made us throw away, especially the stuff that was unopened, but “out of season”. I always try to put the things that can still be used to the side of the dumpster when Im the one taking out the trash. Last time I put a big roll of wrapping paper and gift boxes still wrapped in original packaging to the side and it was gone within the hour. With all the environmental problems and resource shortages I’m really pissed there aren’t more laws that prevent dumping usable items

So now I think by law restaurants are not allowed to give away their food that has to go in the dumpster. I had a friend who works at I believe either the YMCA or the boys club add an after-school program and it would be so much leftover food from dinner but she couldn't take it home to the shelter. She would sneak it home but she could have lost your job

i worked at target for a few months, one day i took some nice nice cups they threw in away, a manager stopped me n said i cant take what they threw away, id be in trouble??? i was shocked!!! , i took maybe like 8cups/mugs to donate to a homeless shelter i volunteer at, and it was christmas soon, i thought, the homeless would appreciate them so much, but nope, manager took them in the back, idk what she did w them.... but i just cant believe stores throw away new items rather than donate them

The box really doesn’t matter. Once someone buys an item, they could put it in a trash bag for all that matters, they still get the same item. If theyre pretending like theyre selling the real product, its pretty obvious theyre lying once the buyer uses it for a bit. The box has no effect on anything, theyve already bought the product. So shes not contributing to anything.

Hi, it’s Toni from CT. Today’s date is March 28, 2019. It just amazes me how there is so much discarded items that are new or used, but still very good. I think we are a throwaway society, unfortunately. It seems that nothing gets fixed anymore and it just gets tossed, but that is good for dumpster divers. Carry-on! :-)

I have a tip/idea!! You should go to Chuck-E-Cheese dumpster because the cards that they do now in most locations instead of tokens are worth 1 piece of candy. AKA if you turn them into the people working, they will give you a piece of candy for each card. My uncle does this and brings the candy to underprivileged kids. WARNING!! Only 4 cards a day PER PERSON! Bring a squad, girl!

A lot of these stores are told to destroy ...tear rip anything that they are throwing out so that people that are dumpster diving can't use any of it.... I think it's such a shame that they're willing break it ...rip it tear it and throw it out before they're willing to donate this stuff to shelters!

Kim I think they do that so the divers don’t take the discarded items back into the store and present it as a return.

At the Alta, they are told to smash all the make up sets that do not sell. Any returns or make up that has been used is destroyed before going into the dumpster. I knew a guy that worked next to the Sears service center. He worked late and would pull lawn mowers and chain saws and all kinds of small engines from their dumpsters, take them home and fix them. The service center would just throw out warenteed items and give the customer a brand new replacement. I ended up buying many of the things this guy didnt want. Sadly, they closed that center. No more goodies! loved going through the Apartment dumpsters I lived at. I once brought back a whole set of dishes, brand new still in the packing crate in foam. I found 2 snow throwers, I used one for parts to fix the other. One day I even got a Almost new Propane BBq grill. I sold that the next day!

I used to work in McDonald’s and we were told to cover the wasted food in bleach to stop the homeless people eating it from the dumpster bins. A manager got fired because he gave the food to the homeless couple outside instead of covering it in bleach 😞

I work at veromoda and my mentor told me we were going to donate some pants. We got to pick one for ourselves. Nothing wrong with them but they were black and the color stained your legs. Some stores a nice and some destroys the stuff 😁

Shame shame shame on those places that destroy that stuff. That they would rather see it go to the landfill than to see someone use it, is disgusting in these times. The amount of garbage we produce, has become a full blown crisis. I'll say it again....shame on them. =(
