This might be helpful for next time. Eggs are good unrefrigerated for several days. Just for reference, unwashed eggs kept room temp are good for 3 months. The ones in the stores are washed. To check if they're ok, put them in cold water. If they don't float, they're still fresh. If they float, they're older, not necessarily spoiled. The only way to check for spoilage is crack em open and use your sniffer. You'll probably know without getting close! LOL I raised chickens for 10 years. I'm not an expert, these tests are well known in the "egg community". And now, more knowledge divulged from the chicken lady..... That was not butter. Margarine is one molecule away from plastic. It was originally made in a chemistry lab to fatten turkeys. They wouldn't eat it, so the super smart people that requested it made, told people it was a butter substitute. Hmmmm, turkeys won't eat it but people will. Well, not the chicken lady. So now I'm on a roll and might as well let you know that many of the sliced processed cheeses are also heavy on the chemicals. Some are in close competition with margarine, the chemically created turkey fattener that they wouldn't eat, but people do. I've started reading food labels and am disgusted by what is made for "food". Rant over, keep diving, start reading food labels and eat real food.

completely agree about the eggs, in fact they cook better at room temp especially in recipes. i get farm fresh ones from my ex- husband's wife of all people! don't ask, they are lovely people. And i couldn't agree more about the margarine! that crap is nasty stuff! haven't eaten it in years! in fact, if one would do a little research, as far as health goes, butter has about the same calories trans fats, & saturated fats as margarine. and if eaten in moderation has been shown to actually lower your cholesterol! Not to mention it tastes a hell of a lot better! But that can be said about any thing that is real and not "fake" food (processed food). Unfortunately in today's world processed food is less expensive, and it's hard to feed a family organic unless you grow it yourself.
@loriskiba39213 жыл бұрын
I agree abt the margarine too... its gross. I would've tossed that and kept the waffles and jalapeño poppers! The cheese, I would've wanted to look that over.. the label does tell you what you need to know. Processed cheese product, is not real cheese. Read ingredients list. If milk or milkfat or cream is not the 1st ingredient, toss it

@@jenniferromero571 NONE of that frozen food was expired. Their freezer went down....but that doesn't make food go bad instantly. They need to find a balance between writing off the value for insurance and donating it asap before anything goes bad. Also, stores are not advised to sell expired baby formula. Anything else is just a suggested "best buy date" and there is nothing legal to it. Some ppl and stores will follow those dates as guidelines but they don't have anything to do with food quality assurance, especially for non-perishables. Use your senses of sight, smell, touch & taste, to check product quality... and learn about legalities a little more...because stores can even donate food past it's best buy date entirely without any repercussion... No need to scare ppl off this stuff...until it rots...and that takes some time, it's perfectly fine, especially when one uses their senses to evaluate before consuming.

Unless you're from a farming family, you truly don't know there is a difference. Most people are so freaked out that an egg might have some dirt or unseen bacteria on it, bc of all of the deceptions we have had ongoing for decades abt the more normal and natural ways of living, cooking and eating foods, that a lot of people would pass out at the thought of having dumpster food. We grew up pulling carrots from the ground, wiping the dirt off and eating them fresh like that! Same with radishes, there was no worry abt illnesses... bc they did not exist! We ran around, playing in mud puddles. We grew up pulling weeds and helping mom to can our fresh produce! No one got sick from bad food bc it was all made by mostly us! We knew every ingredient in everything we ate. Now... its a guessing game when you see natural spices or natural flavorings... do you know that can include sawdust?

The tops can be pulled off those yogurt or whatever cups (the nuts/granola part) and kept for other things. Bananas can be saved til ripe, frozen, and used in smoothies with yogurt and drinks. All you need to do then is re-heat and you are all set to go. It is the same if you have power cuts at home and food is partially thawed, of course if it is already cooked, well eat what you can, but DO NOT re-freeze them. Eggs will keep without refrigeration. My dad raised chickens on our farm. He stored his eggs in a cabinet in the laundry room and they would keep for weeks and not go bad.

The Eggs do not have to be refrigerated

Only unwashed eggs can be left out. All factory eggs are washed clean of the egg's protective coating that keeps bacteria out.

Once they have been cleaned and refrigerated, would they be safe after they got warm? I raised chickens years ago and had about 60 doz a week which we sold but never fridges them first but wasn’t sure if once they had been cold as at the grocery, would they be safe being warn then?

I didn’t know they were out of power until my brother had told me about it. Businesses really had no choice but to pitch the stuff unfortunately.

When something. Like a storm comes through like that each store should go to a homeless area or shelter and have a big cookout so a lot of people won't go hungry
