I have a monitor similar to this one that i use in my computer. I used it for 14 years and it is still working perfectly. It is assemled in portugal in 2008! I'm glad it still works perfectly. I dont remember the exact model, but it is flatron wide and HD ready too. And, most importantly... Its buttons are in perfect shape 🎉

Backlights are not eternal. And replacing them can be pita b/c whole screen is assembled on sticky tapes.

I got one of those TV/monitors in the past for very cheap (R$ 150 (likely 30 USD) back in 2015 - people don't throw away stuff half-working in Brazil, they tend to sell, even purely e-waste here is sold instead of given, but anyway). The problem was the same, broken buttons on the side and corroded remote control. My fix was just reprogramming an universal remote and using it to power it on and off. Used it as a computer monitor over the DVI port for years, even played the entire dying light first 2 games and GTA V when it came to PC on it. Still use it on my bench, but now I have to keep in unplugged when not in use, because if I leave it pluggen in the AC and powered off from the remote for too long (many days), when I try to power it, it won't wake up, and than for using it I need to plug it off, leave several minutes and than plug AC back on. Maybe aging caps but whatever.

Nahodou super televize bez pripojeni k internetu, bez zadnych spionaznich aplikaci, bez zadnych stupidnich "smart" funkci, bez reklam v menu, bez nutnych updatu...

"Can I fix it - or will I discombobulate it into destruction?" Nice to see it work - and I didn't know you had a dog too, haha! The power supply board shows signs of thermal damage, but the capacitors still look great. No venting whatsovever. Nice backlight converter circuit. Usually I see them powered from 24V, this one is an exception, it seems. A nice exercise in hardware debugging :)

This is the point where I hope for some parametrized models to 3d print in the future, to rescue broken button panels where the chick let keys detached.

Thank you for this video. I too suffer from the expectation that when there is a hole a screw is supposed to go in it. Did the engineers design this or did the cost cutters do that. we will never know

Lol, when television still looked like a television. I don't watch TV either. When I unsubscribe from the cable retranslator, she asked why in disbelief. Its sad to see devices dropped by trash bins. I recently saw a flat television ripped open by savage salvagers. Beats me what they recovered from it. The remains were utterly disfigured. They did it by the trashcans. I find it quite odd to have a blue LED in the direction of the monitor, on loudspeakers speakers or the computer. It obstructs the image somewhat. The beetle is desoldered. Amazing. I have an early LG television. It was sold with a small discount because it didn't have an MPEG-4 decoder. I have no need for it because a big screen requires wearing glasses, and it doesn't take a native resolution easily.

They actually assemble these in Poland. The display panel and boards are probably all from east asia and china though.
