We didn't need computers to invent helicopters or airplanes or rocket engines, just good mechanical engineering skills and a strong understanding of physics and math. In the 60's, NASA went to the moon using mostly slide rulers to do their calculations.

This looks great, and it seems like Villeneuve really cared. However, I don't remember Duncan living with the Fremen and reporting back on it. Was that in the book? (I read it a couple of times, a while ago.)

I will say after part 2, this movie isn’t as great as some people say. But that is because it is suppose to set up what comes next. This movie needs to be 6+ hours to get the full feeling of it. I still love part 1 but part 2 just has so much to it.

Am I weird for wanting to see an entire movie about them discussing the logistics of spice harvesting, diplomacy with the Fremen, security risks with the Harkonnen as well as Duncan, Gurney, Paul, Thurfey and Leto being besties together?

Duncan é uma dos treinadores do Paul, e a relação entre eles é mais ou menos como irmãos, com o Duncan servindo como uma figura de irmão mais velho para o Paul.

The problem with this movie is that it's too short. Major character have very little to almost no dialogue. The movie even has a random scene of a desert rat.

(SPOILERS FOR PART 2) The mouse is important later in the story because it becomes its name becomes apart of Paul’s new name when he lives with the fremen. Having it there foreshadows his life with the fremen, and everything that came with it

OK, so I did a bit of top pof my head calculations on beat forces of ornithopter lift system. Dragonfly is the model. So that means, adjusting for size, and mass, a realistic frequency is 10,000 BPM. Assuming a carbon-fibre/hi tech metal compostite in hinges, and connector gears. The G forces load on dynamic components is well over 1000G. Approaching 5000G at tips. Ornithopter is not a variation on helicopter. In Earth's nature , the closest thing to an organic helicopter are seedleafs of some trees, who operate on principle of autorotation for dispersal. No bird, insect, or any animal on record made use of rotary airfoils. Bird wings operate on principle on mission adaptable airfoil, changing shape to control amount of lift, including stall when landing. But epicyclic beat pattern of insects is close to 400 million years. That is the model that ornithopter appears to use.

They also have jet thrusts from the back, would help compensate for lift but I believe they act like vtols when manoeuvring in tight spaces

So not sure what you are saying here. It's not feasible? G loads don't tell you the stresses in the material fibres of the blades. You would need to know what peak stresses arise from such accelerations and then compare against ultimate strength of this material. And even you did the sums and if carbon-fibre is not feasible then you could assume that some additional progress has been made in material science. Graphene is order of magnitude stronger - and thats available now. What would be available in 10 thousand years time - when this is set? ... well, lets assume .....and accept that it's potentially plausible ... or suspend disbelief.

@@pangolin7570Actually Dune is 20,000 years in our future. But I totally agree with your point. Their material and metallurgical sciences by that point would probably blow our minds.
